Dorothea Lange - Migrant Mother

My initial response to this images was worry and horror in what seems to be the mothers face. We can also see two children hiding away from the camera, we cannon see there faces and we cannon tell what sex they are. There is also a baby on the woman's lap which i missed at a first look. The emotion showed through the mothers face could be about what to do next, the three people shown in the image seem to be homeless or very poor, we know this by the ripped clothes and the blanket. There is also a tree out of focus in the foreground of the image to let us know they are outside as it is not clear in the background. I personally like the image in black and white when compared to the image in color because it sets the mood very well.

The image was taken by Dorothea Lange in march 1936 at a camp for seasonal agricultural workers 175 miles north of Los Angeles. Lange was working for the Farm Security Administration (FSA) as part of a team of photographers documenting the impact of federal programs in improving rural conditions, but the image quickly turned into a piece of art. Many people have reviewed the image and many good things have been said, i looked at one website which said the image was "Powerful" and this is what they said "This powerful portrait depicts the weariness of a hard existence in poverty. Florence Owens, the migrant mother of the title, crouches in the foreground flanked by two of her children, their faces hidden. One's attention is directed to her eyes, which seem not to be looking at the camera but to be directed outward, perhaps contemplating a very uncertain future with little hope." Lange described her experience as if she was drawn to the hungry and desperate mother as if like a magnet, she then went on to say that only five exposures was taken and one of which was the migrants mother. she said she worked closer and closer but from the same angle and direction. Lange also got some background information to give the image some real meaning.

This powerful and interesting image was one of five and when compared to the other four exposures you can clearly see why this one was picked over the rest, the focus of the image is on the mother as the children are hiding away, you can really see the emotion of the image because of her face and you can see that she is in deep thoughts. I also like how close up and personal the image is.

The film was a overall success, it was an exiting and energetic video and i believe the people who viewed the video enjoyed it! Everything came together very well and i have learnt many techniques along the way which has contributed to the video very well.

11/11/2014 First Filming Day

The first filming day did not go as well as it could have done, as the weather took a turn for the worst i was forced to stop filming after about 30 mins. Within the 30mins i manages to get a good idea of what camera angles and areas in the woods which i wanted to film!

Day two of filming went a lot better I managed to get a lot of content which would be enough to start editing on the 14th November.

editing went very well and have learnt  new techniques in Premier Pro and i now know that i need more footage which i might do in the studio!

today was not as productive as i would have liked it to be because i need more footage which i will be filming on the weekend.

Tonight i managed to get all the clips to fill my music video i believe this went very well and will contribute well to the video.

When filming with the 7D I will not go over 800iso because the footage will become very noisy and grainy especially in low light. The aperture will be as wide as possible to allow as much light as possible e.g. F1.8 this will be essential when filming in low light.

How The Editing Sequence Influences a Movies | Moving Image

Horror - Annabelle Trailer 

Throughout the trailer the only transitions used are "fades" and "cuts", the trailer started with lots of "fades" and as the tension built each shots got shorter and faster, and switched to "cuts". When editing the trailer building up to the 'scary' moments would be silent or the editing team added quiet sound which progressed to be lauder as the tension builds. Right at the end of the trailer there was a "Jumpcut" which was used on purpose, it was very clever the way in which they used this and the GIF below shows this. This scene has a massive impact on the viewer even after viewing this multiple because it is unexpected and it feels like the character running towards YOU and never fails to make you jump, the music/sound is also a massive factor within most horror movies and this really helps impact the viewer, For example when the jumpy moment takes place the sound could get very loud.

Continuity editing refers to arranging the sequence of shots to suggest a progression of events.

Montage

Montage is a technique in film editing in which a series of short shots are edited into a sequence to condense space, time, and information.

Jump-Cutting

A jump cut is a transition between two shots which appears to "jump" due to the way the shots are framed in relation to each other. Jump cuts are usually caused by framing which is quite similar.

180 Degree Rule

The rule of line-crossing is sometimes called the 180° rule. This refers to keeping the camera position within a field of 180°

Idea for titanium | Moving Image

David Guetta - Titanium Synopsis

The official music video for Titanium opens in a deserted, destroyed school hallway with Lee’s character shown sitting on the ground. As the first verse begins, he slowly begins to stand up and makes his way through the hallway. The boy then sees a female teacher in a classroom who’s stricken with fear and closes the door, realising that the boy is the cause of the damage. As the boy makes his way outside the school building, a police car arrives and the teacher rushes outside to tell the policeman about the boy, who then quickly rides a bicycle home to pack his things. While at home, he sees a news report about the incident, causing him to quickly gather his things to flee. Several policemen then appear outside the front door of the boy’s house, while he tries to escape through the back door. The boy realises that the door is locked so he uses his telekinetic powers to grab the keys from the kitchen bench. The policemen then enter the house to find that the boy has escaped, but find a teddy bear and a plush frog floating in the air. The final scene shows the boy running away from a SWAT team in the woods. The boy is caught by one of the men who pushes him to the ground. The video ends with the boy using his supernatural powers once again to push the men away in a burst of power; this references how the boy destroyed the school in the first place, as he’s in the same position he was in at the beginning of the video. I believe this song is about escape and staying strong even when things are tough and when you are alone and different you should not give up but fight for whats right!

This song is the one I will be using for my main project, it also goes along with my first idea!

The music video is about a child who seems to be a monster he has some sort of power which scares  everyone just because he is different. The police gets involved and the young boy manages to get away from them because of his special powers!

I chose to use Jessie J who's laughing now because it goes along with my second idea (the main idea) 

The music video is about a young girl (young version of Jessie J) who gets bullied but never fights back because she is out numbered. It is based on Jessie's own experience as she used to get bullied as a child and shows how far she has come since school and proving everyone wrong about what she was capable of!

this video goes along with my third and fourth idea because it is very artistic and different and would make a very interesting yet simple music video.

this video is not the standard music video which you would  traditionally see but this is because it was created by a photographer and many aspects of photography was used in the video. there is not much movement apart from the occasional camera shake and the flame moving around the model!
