People always gloss over how mentally damaging it can be to work in retail. I fucking hate that whenever I say âI could never work in retail againâ someone has to reply âYou snowflake millennials canât take a starter job because you have to INTERACT with other peopleâ No. Fuck you. Iâve worked as a planetarium host. Iâve worked as a public speaker. Iâve worked as a tutor and as a student teacher. I can work with people. I can work with crowds. Retail was fucking different. Retail was being treated as a subhuman. Retail was being treated so poorly that you have anxiety attacks before work. Having to work retail was a factor in my last suicide attempt. If I hear you say one fucking word about retail workers playing the victim I will personally break every bone in your body. Fuck You.
The holidays are coming up. Retail workers are going to be spiraling into a nightmare beyond human comprehension. If youâve worked retail, you know this. If you havenât, be aware of it. Please be kind to every retail worker you come across. Please be patient and understanding. It is misery out there.

The Museum of Science in Boston has been raising funds to build a statue in memorial to Leonard Nimoy (who loved the museum and grew up right near it) and Iâm SHOCKED at how far they still have to go. Leonard Nimoy was an activist, a proud Jew who inspired so many other Jewish people to be proud of their heritage, and a lover of science, art, and curiosity. If anyone deserves a statue in their honor at the museum he loved, itâs him.
The Museum of Science is a wonderful organization. They support local programs, theyâre partnered with the New England Aquarium, they hand out free passes all the time (I got a bunch at the Dyke March last year), they tell the truth and strive to be diverse and accessible (they let people borrow wheelchairs and ECVâs for free!) and they run on community support. Please share their fundraiser!
{{MetaTags.description}}
I understand if itâs more important to you to share fundraisers for individuals in need. It is a very noble thing to do, and I think Leonard would agree. If you care about this though, everything is appreciated, and I know he has a lot of love on this website.
They've still got a ways to go btw and there's rewards now (like space socks for $25!) so def keep sharing this!
TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! JULIE NEWMAR (1995) dir. Beeban Kidron
I like haunted houses in theory BUT I have no idea how to react when the actors speak to you. They ask me a question and I just⊠answer itâŠ
The scariest part of a haunted house is the unscripted social interaction.
Scary nurse in a creepy voice: âDo you have an appointment to see the doctor?â
Me: âUh. Do you accept walk-ins?â
Scary farmer: âI like to kill people!â
My friend, brightly: âI like to die!â
Zombie : âAARRRGHâ
Me : âDo you get dental insurance?â
Zombie : âTEETH!!â
This happened to me.
Scary prison dude: HELLO
Me: Nice to meet you!
Him: (pause) No itâs noooooot
My worst horror house experience was when I couldnât find the (rather obvious) exit and the guy chasing me with a chainsaw stopped, sighed and pointed me to the exit, saying âplease scream as loud as you can when you run out thereâ and just left. I disappointed the horror house chainsaw dude and I will never get over that
Guy: They are all my friends.. (motioning to hanging corpses; then grabs a noose) Will you be my friend? Me: Sure totally, you made me a friendship necklace? Oh my god your so sweet? Guy: ⊠Yes.. Please, let me.. I cant I cant just go (laughing). â Got to walk a second time throughâ Same guy: My friends -wailing- Me: I came back I just really wanted to be friends so bad Guy: (laughing more) Please, Im not allowed to laugh.Â
I went to a Haunted House and literally befriended every actor there.
Specifically, I remember;
There were zombies walking around in the waiting room. I said âHi!â and he gave me a high five. Every time he passed from then on, I got a high five.
Near the end, there were these twin little girls. âCome play with us.â They said. âOkay!â I said. âForever.â They said. âOh, sorry, canât do that. Iâm busy.â
I could hear them giggling.
Guy playing Freddie Kruger: Remember, you are all my children!
Me: thanks dad
A small chorus of teenagers: thanks dad
I went to a haunted corn maze once. Someone ran at me with a chainsaw. I just stared at him. He hung his head and walked away. I left.
The Real Horror Is The People We Dissapointed Along The Way
IM CRYING
My friends and I were in a really dark part of a haunted house and couldnât find the exit, so the guy who had just jumped out at us had to say âto your leftâ in his same scary voice heâd used to scream and we were like âthanks!â
And then after a few moments of patting blindly at the wall he says again in the same ominous voice âyour other leftâ
