Mickey has been beloved by many sense 1928 when he made his official debut in “Steamboat Willie” and has been the star of cherished Disney classic’s.  As you can see we love Mickey Mouse and wish him a very Happy Birthday!

You know all the Disney FROZEN fans couldn’t wait for Halloween to head out into the night dressed as their favorite FROZEN characters.  So it’s no surprise that pumpkin carvers showed their love of the hit film, and their favorite character Olaf!

Our community puts on a Pumpkin Festival every year in which children of all ages submit carved pumpkins and compete in different categories for first place. This year Olaf had a huge presence on the County Courthouse Lawn.  Of course their were plenty of Anna and Elsas and many other Disney Halloween Pumpkins based on beloved Disney characters one of my favorites being the Singing Busts from The Haunted Mansion Ride, and Jack & Sally from the Disney’s Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas.  Hands down Olaf was defiantly the star of the Pumpkin Fest. I never imagined so many different ways to build a snowman in Jack O’Lantern form. The children in our community showed their are no limits to depicting Olaf.

Many of the Disney Halloween Pumpkins were an impressive artistic representation. Even the children under 5 entrees were just plain adorable. You can judge for yourself!

30 Disney Characters Come Together For Wired Cover. The November Issue Focuses on the Story of the Re-Making of the Mouse and Lasseter Invaluable Role.

Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios president Ed Catmull and chief creative officer John Lasseter pose with the 30+ characters for the cover and discuss how they revived the company’s animation unit.

In addition to the classic Peter Pan character Tinkerbell, Wired’s November 2014 issue features some of Walt Disney Animation’s favorite recent characters, including Big Hero 6′s Baymax, Fred, Go Go Tomago and Hiro; Bolt’s Bolt, Mittens and Rhino; Frozen’s, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven; Get a Horse!’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse; Paperman’s George and Meg; The Princess and the Frog’s Prince Naveen, Ray and Tiana; Tangled’s Flynn, Pascal and Rapunzel; Winnie the Pooh’s Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh; and Wreck-It Ralph’s, Fix-It Felix, Jr., Vanellope von Schweetz and Wreck-It Ralph.

In 2006, Disney CEO Bob Iger put Catmull and Lasseter in charge of the company’s animation arm, which hadn’t produced a hit movie in several years.

Disney purchased Pixar and Lasseter was named Chief Creative Officer of both Pixar and Disney Animation Studios. He was also named Principal Creative Advisor at Walt Disney Imagineering, where he would help design attractions for Disney’s theme parks. He would report directly to Disney chief Bob Iger, bypassing Disney’s studio and theme parks executives. He also received green-light power on films with Roy E. Disney‘s consent.

Lasseter had been fired in 1984, and when he returned 22 years later, he learned that the problems he experienced as a young animator were still prevalent.

Together, Catmull and Lasseter created a work environment that fostered creativity and encouraged all employees to pitch their ideas—not just animators.

With expert storytelling and masterful artwork, Lasseter and co. revamped the animation division. “The connection you make with you audience is an emotional connection,” says two-time Academy Award winner Lasseter. “The audience can’t be told to feel a certain way. They have to discover it themselves.”

“When John is with you his focus is all on you,” Frozen director Chris Buck says. “He’s not thinking about his last meeting. He’s focused on how to make whatever we’re doing the best we can.” It’s a great payoff for the Disney lifers, who finally have a boss who cares as much as they do about telling powerful stories and knows how to do it. “We were asking, ‘Who’s going to be our John Lasseter?’” Williams says. “Turns out John Lasseter was our John Lasseter.”

Lasseter’s biggest personal impact at Disney isn’t the trust he’s nurtured, the directors he’s mentored, or the systems he and Catmull have implemented; it’s his own enthusiasm, his love for the form, which has reanimated Disney. From tiny tweaks to big decisions, Lasseter turned the studio into an extension of his office—all character and story. There, sitting among his toys, Lasseter is welling up again. He and Catmull saved the studio from collapse. They helped the employees make a hit. They rescued a beloved cultural institution, ensuring generations of kids will experience the same magic that entranced Lasseter as a child, the magic that made him who he is. “It’s important for the world to have this,” he says, his hand over his heart.

Digital Artist, Tyson Murphy is Producing Incredible Recreations of Frames From Disney Classics

Tyson Murphy is a character artist at Blizzard Entertainment and instructor.  His work is typically rooted in Fantasy and Nature though recently he has taken inspiration from iconic Disney films.

Working within the Adobe Photoshop environment, Tyson has been producing light studies on screen shots taken of frames from beloved Disney classics.  His work is phenomenal and is really garnering a great deal of positive attention.  The pieces bring a depth and rich detail to characters we’ve known our whole lives making them new and more alive than ever before.

Murphy told The Huffington Post, “I picked these movies because they’re a few of my favorites, and also because they come from an era when less lighting was painted into the original scene, leaving me a lot of room for my own interpretations!”

Murphy has revealed three of these studies through out 2014 and continues to enjoy them.

Here’s hoping the Mouse will prove further Muse for this talented Artist.

Check Out the Alex Ross Cover for the Upcoming New Disney/Marvel Star Wars Comic Series ‘Star Wars #1′

MARVEL published the Star Wars comic book series for nearly 10 years. The first issue went on sale in April 1977, and was published through 1986.

Published by Dark Horse Comics through the 90’s with their final Star Wars issues being produced this year. In 2015, the Star Wars Comic universe returns to Marvel, with the Disney/MARVEL launching two all new ongoing Star Wars Comic series and an 4 part Princess Leia series in the first quarter of 2015.

Written by Jason Aaron and drawn by John Cassaday. the series focuses on the main series based on the original-trilogy gang of Han, Luke, and Leia.

To mark the occasion, Marvel commissioned photorealist comics illustrator Alex Ross to produce a homage to Howard Chaykin’s original cover of 1977’s Star Wars #1.

In Once Upon A Time S4:E4 The Apprentice Has Been Revealed, We Know What the Sorcerer’s Hat Does, But Who Does it Belonged to?

While the the first half of Once Upon a Time season 4 will mainly be used to tell the story of the Frozen characters and the Snow Queen, the premiere episode introduced an item which will be the focal point for the whole season: The Sorcerer’s Hat.

Fans quickly surmised that this must be the hat seen in Fantasia, the Disney classic from 1940 starring Mickey Mouse as the sorcerer’s apprentice.

In Fantasia, the apprentice is Mickey Mouse, and the sorcerer himself is “Yen Sid” (Disney spelled backwards). In Once Upon a Time, the apprentice is a kindly old man who is briefly turned into a mouse, while the sorcerer… well, we still don’t know.

One piece of the puzzle has been solved: Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) explained this week what the hat does.  The hat captures individual people’s magic, and gives the owner enough power to break any restriction on their own.

Now that Rumple holds the hat, one might say that Rumpelstiltskin is the sorcerer, and he aptly named Henry (Jared Gilmore) his apprentice.

But although Rumple has gained possession of the hat, there was an original sorcerer once who created it – and he might’ve even been in Storybrooke at some point, seeing as Mr. and Mrs. Gold first discovered the hat in a fancy, remote mansion.

The original sorcerer might “just” be a powerful character from a well-known fantastical universe. Merlin from the King Arthur legends would be an obvious choice, especially seeing as we’ve already met Sir Lancelot. Or perhaps a brand-new character, serving as an amalgamation of all the original writers of the fairytales (the Grimm Brothers, H.C. Andersen etc.)?

Compelling and both excellent possibilities. Once Upon A Time continues to enthrall and enchant with it’s Disney Fairytale Mash Up.

Thankfully one of Once Upon A Time’s most endearing qualities is that they don’t leave to many loose threads at the end of a season, so all should be revealed. Check out next weeks episode promo below.

Disney is planning to release a mobile game on November 3rd based on its upcoming animated film, Big Hero 6. Titled Big Hero 6 Bot Fight, the game looks to be a “match 3″ style puzzle game that allows players to battle with enemies by matching similarly colored blocks together.

The game will be available on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

Disney Unveils Concept Art and Announces 2016 Release for Animated Feature ‘MOANA’

The film will tell the story of MOANA, a teenage girl and “born navigator” who “sets sail in search of a fabled island,” according to a summary from Disney. “During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore,” Disney reveals.

Ron Clements and John Musker

The creative team behind MOANA, has some serious Disney experience: Directors Ron Clements and John Musker also helmed The Little Mermaid and Aladdin among others.

“MOANA is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself,” Musker said in a statement. “She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences.”

Inspired by the books they read as a kids Musker and Clements decided to set their next project in the South Pacific?

“I grew up reading the novels of Melville and Conrad. And the South Seas, the exotic world that a lot of their stories are set in, was extremely intriguing to me. Just looking at the art which comes out that corner of the globe — the carvings, the statuary, the sculpture — I thought that it all begged for this bigger-than-life treatment that you can only get with animation,” John remembered. “So to expand on that idea, I then began reading up on the mythology of this area. Which is when I came across these incredible tales about Maui, who’s one of the great cultural heroes of the South Pacific.”

There is already a strong Internet Fanbase for the Polynesian Moana, who was previously expected to make her debut in 2018, and she serves as an example of Disney furthering representation of diverse and minority characters.

So with today’s announcement, a two year journey begins. One that Ron and John (not to mention Ian Gooding, who’s also agreed to come on board Moana and become this new animated feature’s production designer) hope will end with a genuinely entertaining motion picture.

“Moana” is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016.

  7 Hotels Planned At Disney’s New Development

Disney’s Flamingo Crossings resort at Disney will focus marketing to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex visitors. Developers will break ground in October.

The developer of the first two hotels at Disney’s Flamingo Crossings said Thursday he plans to build seven hotels on the property within the next four or five years.

“In several years, this will look vastly different around here,” John Rubini told a crowd gathered for groundbreaking on the project’s first two hotels.

Flamingo Crossings, about half a mile from Walt Disney World’s western entrance, is aimed at budget tourists and teams participating in events at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

  FIRST LOOK at Darth Vader in Star Wars: Rebels ABC Premiere And Ewok Wicket, Warwick Davis Joins Episode VII Cast

ABC will be re-airing the Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion TV movie (which leads into the Star Wars Rebels series on Disney XD) on Sunday, October 26th – featuring this all new Darth Vader scene. James Earl Jones himself will voice the character.

Warwick Davis’ first screen role was as the Ewok Wicket in the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VII. Though he also had a role in 1999’s The Phantom Menace, Davis has stayed busy in the Star Wars community as a host and moderator for numerous fan events around the globe. And now, according to this video, he has found his way into Star Wars: Episode VII.

  Disney Descendant, Tim Disney Replaces Austin M. Beutner As CalArts Chairman

California Institute of the Arts, the school that Walt Disney co-founded in the 1960s, has named the entertainment legend’s great-nephew Tim Disney to lead its board of trustees.

Tim Disney, 53, is the grandson of Roy O. Disney, who founded CalArts with his famous brother Walt in 1961. Disney is also the co-founder of Uncommon Productions, which he started in 2000 with Bill Haney. The company makes feature films and documentaries.

“As an independent filmmaker and entrepreneur across a number of fields, Tim brings a very special combination of knowledge and passion for the arts combined with the foresight and financial savvy that will guide CalArts through this era of rapid change,” CalArts President Steven Lavine said.

  ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Hits $700 Million Worldwide

China has given Marvel’s break-out hit an added boost!

In the wake of its debut last weekend in China, where it bowed to $29.8 million, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on Wednesday crossed the $700 million mark worldwide. The pic has collected $326.7 million domestically and $378.4 million overseas for a global cume of $705.1 million, and it currently ranks as 2014’s sixth top-grossing film worldwide.

Guardians’ China debut on Oct. 10 was the biggest October opening in that territory and Disney’s third-biggest debut there, behind Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Robert Redford is in early negotiations to join the cast of Disney’s live action remake of “Pete’s Dragon,” sources confirm to Variety.

The actor would play a resident of a logging community that tells stories of dragons.

Redford would join the previously announced child stars Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence in Disney’s remake of “Pete’s Dragon.”

David Lowery is set to direct from a script he wrote with Toby Halbrooks.

The story is a reinvention of the 1977 film that revolves around Pete and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be dragon. The first pic was a musical, but sources say this will be a straight narrative.

I don’t know I really wish this film would be a musical certainly with FROZEN success so driven by it’s soundtrack Disney has to remember the power of music. Go for it Disney! After all ‘Pete’s Dragon’ has one of the most epic songs of Disney’s 70’s era in “It’s Not Easy.” It would be great to see Zooey Deschanel take on Helen Reddy’s role and vocals.

Reviewing Lowery and Halbrooks IMDB profiles though it looks like it will be kind of gritty, Northwest Costal, with orange yellow solar flares, focus/blur effects and high emotion relationship dynamics so who knows.  I hope it is more Disney than WALDEN / MIRAMAX in the end, here’s hoping.

Warwick Davis’ first screen role was as the Ewok Wicket in the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VII. 7 Hotels Planned At Disney Flamingo Crossings

Disney Flamingo Crossings resort at Disney will focus marketing to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex visitors. Developers will break ground in October.

The developer of the first two hotels at Disney’s Flamingo Crossings said Thursday he plans to build seven hotels on the property within the next four or five years.

“In several years, this will look vastly different around here,” John Rubini told a crowd gathered for groundbreaking on the project’s first two hotels.

Flamingo Crossings, about half a mile from Walt Disney World’s western entrance, is aimed at budget tourists and teams participating in events at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
