After several rewatches and pages of notes later, I hate to dash everyone's theories but that skeleton in the beginning really was just a skeleton, it stayed stationary the entire time and when he finds his way out of the cave to locate the sm-8 again he's spat out Right at the skeletons exact location, same ground although warped and distorted from his hallucinations, same hole in the jaw and everything, and he uses that as a marker for finding the cave again. And yeah the whole "it's an xray camera so u can't be certain what you're looking at is alive or not" IS true, but in this one instance...unfortunately it really is just a decayed skeleton (pics below)
