Dance With Me?
“Shinji?”
You got a slight reaction from the man nestled against your chest, his head raising slightly.
“…Yes?”
You looked down into his half-lidded eyes and giggled.
“Do you think you would ever dance with me?”
Almost immediately, you could see his face tinge with red, and he hid his face against your chest again.
You waited against the silence that passed, knowing this was his processing time. You didn’t want to spook him, so you allowed the pregnant pause to hang in the air.
Finally, a shift came from the hulking man, and he tilted his head up to you again.
“Why?”
You almost felt bad prodding him with your challenging questions, interrupting cuddle time. Almost.
With a slight smirk, you answered, “I love to dance. I want to know if you’d be willing to dance with me.”
You left it as a statement, but you felt some anxiety creep in at the thought of him saying no. You didn’t want to pressure him into something he was uncomfortable with. Hell, you already did it when you confessed you loved him, you were worried he would get worn out from all the new things he had to get used to.
Shinjiro eyed you carefully, you could see his eyes bouncing between yours. It was hard to get used to the silences in the middle of your conversations, you didn’t know whether he heard you, he was thinking, or just ignoring you half the time. But you tried to keep your nerves at bay.
He sat up, which shocked you. You hoped you didn’t ruin cuddle time, but then he stood up and went to your computer.
Flabbergasted, you couldn’t help but open and close your mouth, at war with yourself between asking what he was doing and telling yourself to wait and see what happened. Shinjiro knew his behavior could set this off in you at times, and turned his head slightly to look at you.
“Stop doing your fish face,” he poked fun, and your lips clamped shut with a scowl.
At that moment, some pleasant jazz came through the small speakers, and you perked up in shock.
“Shinji, what—“
He stood and offered his hand to you, his deadpan face thrown slightly off by the dusting of pink across his cheeks.
“May I have this dance?”
Astounded, you could feel your body freeze, only a small “huh?” slipping past your lips. Shinjiro chuckled, and tucked a finger beneath your chin to nudge your mouth closed.
That move alone could have combusted you in this room, but then he let his hand trail from your chin, down your arm, and took your hand, pulling you gently from the bed.
With a careful touch, he took your other hand and guided it to his shoulder, and then took you by the waist. He began to sway to the music, holding you close and guiding you through the steps.
He seemed awfully focused on your joined hands, but you couldn’t pull your eyes from his face. You could really look at him in the orange glow spilling through your window, and see how the light brightened his gray eyes, and you could see small flecks of black in them.
You took your hand from his shoulder and caressed his face, catching his attention finally. You ran your knuckles down his cheek and grinned.
“You’re so handsome. You know that?” You couldn’t help grinning ear to ear. “How’d I get so lucky?”
Shinji’s face exploded in red, you could see it reach down into his turtleneck.
“What’d’ya gotta go and do all that for?” he muttered, rolling his eyes.
“What, I can’t make over my man?” you snorted, pinching his cheek.
“Man, you try and do a nice thing for your girlfriend,” he groaned, turning you in your swaying.
“That’s exactly why I’m making over you,” you muttered, nudging his face back in your direction. “Because you’re the sweetest, most wonderful guy in the world, and I’m so lucky to have y—“
He took the moment to dip you, catching you off-guard. You both looked into each other’s eyes for a moment before he leaned in and kissed you deeply. A surprised squeal left your throat involuntarily, and you melted into the kiss.
When he pulled out of the kiss, he pulled you back up to standing, which was a smart choice since your legs were suddenly jelly.
He chuckled at the dazed look in your eyes. “Impressed?”
“You know, a simple yes would have sufficed,” you gasped, both arms now wrapped around his strong shoulders.
“Yeah, but Mitsuru would have killed me.”
Your eyes widened. “Did she teach you all of that?” You exclaimed, nearly yelling.
Shinjiro shushed you, and let both his hands rest on your waist. “She…may have roped me and Aki into some dance lessons. She really wanted to practice in case she had to dance at some ball or whatever, rich people shit. Glad it paid off.”
“Oh, I’m going to kiss her next time I see her,” you expressed breathlessly.
“Please don’t.”
You let out a bright laugh at that. “You’re such a romantic, Shinji,” you let out a contented sigh. “I’m so in love with you.”
You felt his reaction to that before you saw it, feeling his fingers twitch against your sides. He hid his face in the crook of your neck, wrapping his arms around your waist. You giggled at the sensation, letting your fingers run through his hair. The dancing became more of a slow sway back and forth. You felt warm in Shinjiro’s tight grip, and felt his breath brush against the skin of your neck. You felt completely at peace in this moment, listening to the music and Shinjiro’s breathing.
“I’m in love with you, too,” Shinjiro muttered against your neck. You let out a breathy laugh, and he lifted his head from your shoulder. He met your gaze for a moment before leaning down and pressing a tender kiss to your lips. You smiled into the kiss, tangling your fingers in his long locks. You tugged slightly, and you could feel a moan reverberate through his chest. He pulled out of the kiss and squeezed your hips.
“Can we go back to cuddling?” he muttered, his hands trailing up your sides. You nodded, allowing him to guide you backwards and ease you down onto the bed before he slid back into his previous position. You settled into the warmth again, running your fingers through his hair. You could feel the tension leave his muscles, and you pressed a kiss to the crown of his head.
“Now that we’re rehearsed, we’ll have to show off our skills to the others,” you chuckled, and Shinjiro groaned against you, causing you to laugh harder. He propped his chin up to look you in the eyes with his classic deadpan.
“I will only do that in front of others on our wedding day,” he muttered before ducking back down against your chest.
You let out an exaggerated gasp at that. “When are we getting married, Shinji?” you squealed.
At that, Shinjiro pushed himself off of the bed wordlessly and exited the room without a glance back, causing you to jump up after him.
“Shinji wait, come back!” you cried out, laughing mirthfully after him.
