After last poster research, I have more specific recognize about my topic. At the begin of this topic, I tried to research at first. During the research of gender binary, I found a photographer named ernielson limbo. His work “crossover” inspired me a lot. The first idea of this poster is combining the two genders’ facial features. I really like his idea that giving a new sense of gender identity that inspired me combine the gender facial features with strings. (limbo, n.d.)
I want to show that these two genders can have same contribution to this society. Me, as a female, strongly realized the stereotype between genders. For example, the stereotype in society that male can do science better than female, but the research shows that in history, there are many brilliant female scientists have contributed a lot to the world. A famous one is a polish- French physicist ---Marie Curie. She discovers a new chemical element which they named “radium”. (Marie Curie, née Sklodowska Biographical, n.d.)
Besides that, I have researched a famous figure that represent the society is awakening awareness of women’s rights. The film <wonder women> is a great example for it. It is about a female superhero saved the world. the stereotype of superhero is always male, and the wonder women break this stereotype to show the power of the female can be.
About my concept, it is not about feminist, I tried to show female and male are same. Besides the poster, I think I can use video to present this concept, too. To correspond to the previous poster, in this video, the main colors is still blue, red and purple. At the beginning of this video, it shows two typical images of female and male. They present two colors respectively are red and blue. The stereotype is women suppose like pink and men should prefer blue, so I want to use this video to show the they all can be purple!
“we are different, and we are same.”
“I am a woman, I like pink, but I have the right to like blue and no one have right judge me.”
As a woman, this is what I pursue form my view, however, what my video pursue is anyone can have right to pursue what they like.
At this video, just like my poster’s red and blue paper, it from a strong contrast. However, at the end it turns to purple, just like the middle of the poster. The actions that this figure did like the strings in the poster. However, present it on the video makes the concept become more vivid compare with the poster.
In this video, it randomly shows some color, which is the pervious material transparent color paper that under the lights. It Interspersed in the video that respond to the figure, at the end, the three paper all appear to highlight the concept.Besides the color, the figure’s action is a part of work. At the first, the figure is staggering in front of the camera. She is keep doing actions that shows she is nervous and anxious and keep changing between the red and blue, just one second think of purple. However, at the end of video, she chooses the purple and turn to camera then firmly watching the lens. I was going to end with the purple paper, nevertheless, I found out it could have a better effect that put the actions that figure is going to leave. After all the hesitation, she decided to be ‘purple’ and walk out. All in all, most contemporary art and design always consider two genders as opposite, maybe we should ask ourselves is it too absolute. Maybe among these typical pairs, we can find out some interesting new areas that could be treasures to art and design. Black and white is a prefect couple, but the gray also has create amazing works.
