And it involved Yellow, so it was only right to show it to her.

Her hands toy with the ends of her dress, worrying the fabric over the idea she might have bothered somegem dear to her, but it was too late to back out now. She had to go through with it. “You remember how I asked... um... any Pearl who had the free chance to send in an image?” Well, Yellow might not actually remember that, she wasn’t sure if she’d actually sent her one, she could, after all, just observe the pearl in person.

“I ah.. I finished yours. It’s... drying right now, but I’d love if you came to take a look?”

“It’s... kind of hard to be on Homeworld after everything. I guess that’s why I stay away.”

Blue’s arms cross, just slightly as her mind drifts over the Lazuli who’d emerged. She still wasn’t sure what to make of it all. Most Lapis emerged in pairs, as it fostered a bond so they would work together better. None were exceptionally powerful anymore, except the handful of remaining Era 1 Lazulis, sending two was standard, now. She hoped that the gem would have a fitting partner.

“It’s only been happening on newer colonies.”

Blue knows this to be fact, because she’s... been taking care of things that Her Diamond asks her to, in her grief. It makes her uncomfortable, but who is she to decline Blue Diamond’s wishes? She was her Diamond’s Pearl. Made specially for her, who was she to decline, when she asked for anything? So she knew newer colonies were providing more defectives, while old colonies were providing the normal, near perfect emergence rate. Blue Pearl tried not to think of what this could mean, or what it might cause in the long run. It would get fixed, certainly.

A tiny inhale as she turns her focus to the next topic, moving from one foot to the other. She couldn’t think of which Rubies Yellow was talking about. There were several under Blue’s control, and nothing of note had happened with them. Although she always had this inkling that one group her Diamond put together was... unique. But certainly they couldn’t be what Yellow was talking about. Surely.

“Which Rubies, Yellow?”

The look that Yellow gives her, its surprising. Did Yellow not confide in her Pearl? Or did the Radiant Diamond keep up her strong, imposing facade even in private?

Blue is ready to voice that exact question when Yellow finally answers. She knows it’s more of a non answer, than anything concrete. Blue doesn’t know for sure if she is right on her assumption, that Yellow Diamond too, is suffering from the loss of Pink. But in her own way? Blue knows she might never know the truth, either.

“Yes, I suppose it is.” 

But Blue knew better. Sometimes her Diamond did not dismiss her when she was visited by Yellow Diamond, and Blue got to see… It all. She compartmentalized it all away, for use in aiding her beloved Diamond obviously, but she could never quite get a grasp on how Yellow Diamond felt. She’d gotten… far used to being in a state of constant, low level grief–How ones emotions dull after the first century. Blue Diamond must grieve enough for them all, it seems like– So the emotions of the grand Yellow Matriarch were out of her reach. She’d hoped Yellow Pearl would know, but it seems not.

“I’m sorry. If you’d like, we can… cease conversing?”

Yellow Pearl slowly shook her head in response to Blue Pearl’s final comment. “No, it’s alright.” She stated with a raised hand. “In fact I would prefer if we kept talking, afterall there’s nothing else to do but to talk.” She added.

Although she had been slightly distressed at how little she knew about her Diamond’s feelings on the subject of Pink Diamond’s shattering, such feelings quickly faded away. Yellow Diamond must of moved on from the event as she knew emotions only served to hold her back, and the Pearl supposed that she should follow the example of her Diamond in this scenario.

Yellow Pearl clasped her hands together, eager to disregard the conversation about Pink Diamond and Yellow Diamond’s feelings. A smile quickly grew on her face as she raised one of her arms once again and a light (maybe forced) giggle came out.

“Anyway, how are you today? I hope your duties haven’t been too tedious.”

“I’m glad. You’re.. one of the only gems I can talk like this to.” The only, after Pink’s shattering, and her Pearl rebelling. White’s Pearl didn’t do much talking anymore, if at all. But Blue doesn’t concern Yellow with that. She needn’t know. Yellow didn’t need to think she was, stars forbid, lonely.

“I’d hate to bore us both to our demise.”

A giggle escapes her, maybe just as forced as Yellow’s own. But neither would know for sure. Blue waves it away anyway, looking absently away as she considered her own question. Nothing out of the usual, although she’d accompanied Her Diamond to Pink’s Zoo in the morning. Just a quick visit, she’d insisted, they had things to do today. Meetings to attend. To actually attend, for once. Blue had been insistent on her pearl with this. Even given her permission to scold her if she tried asking for a few more minutes. She’d been scandalized at the prospect, a Pearl, scolding a Diamond? If anyone else were to hear that, she’d have been shattered just for the idea. But it had instilled the fact of the matter. That Blue Diamond needed her pearl to remind her of the surely important meetings and business they had to do today.

But she couldn’t speak of that, surely. It would bring them back to Pink. So instead of answering, she gives a hum, just to let Yellow know she was thinking about it. About what she could say. Blue always did think an awful lot before she spoke.

“No, nothing tedious, I suppose. Nothing of importance has happened today. Although... yesterday, I watched a Lapis emerge on one of Blue’s colonies. She... asked me to oversee it. Three were supposed to emerge, but only one did. I suspect the other two will be a bit overbaked.”

Is Lonely Pearl here?

Her hands curl up, expression pensive. Tamps down on any urges and smiles pathetically patiently. Cream isn’t sure why these Slates keep asking after her. She wasn’t anything special. Cream wasn’t worth their attention.

“I am... Do... Do you need me to do something for you?”

“Are you returning for me, finally?”

First for everything

Pink eases out of her pose once Blue finally allows her to, stretching slowly even if she didn’t need to. “Pink sure loved her games... And the Pebbles loved her little building games, too.” Pink muses softly before going straight for the box on one of the tables in the corner, pieces already spread out over it. The Pearl could hardly wait!

“I never had a chance to entertain Pink. I only ever met her when she was speaking with Blue, or during their baths.. What games did she like to play, Spinel?”

Blue asks it as she spreads her datapad to start coloring the drawing of Pink, patting the cushions near her for Spinel to sit if she’d like. It seems like the gem had already been well adopted by the Pearls.

Yellow Pearl giggled quietly at Blue Pearl’s response. “It most certainly isn’t, and you wouldn’t believe the foolish suggestions that have been presented.” She quietly stated. The Pearl took a few glances around hoping that there was no one nearby. Luckily there was none. With a smile Yellow Pearl spoke up. “One of our Zirconia suggested that we enact planet “friendly” policies and work with native organics.” She explained with a laugh. The Pearl remembered the event clearly, especially the Zirconia’s punishment for such foolish insolence. The Organics deserved nothing more than extermination as they posed a threat to Gem Hegemony and galactic order, and any who thought otherwise deserve their punishment.

“I hope Blue Diamond’s court suffers no such incompetence.”

“Work.. with native organics?”

Blue can’t help the twinge of a smile that covers her face. Such a silly idea, one Blue knew Pink would have sprung for. And something their Sapphire would have suggested, as well. Blue isn’t sure why her Diamond keeps that Sapphire, beyond it reminding her of Pink. Her ideas and thoughts were so far out there.

“No, none such. Thankfully. I know my Diamond would shatter them on the spot for such a silly idea.”

The worst she could recall was, perhaps, to simply..  stop. And Blue Diamond had actually laughed. A single, clipped laugh, before that gem had been taken away. Blue Pearl could still hear the panicked yelling of that gem, when she had realized her idea was wrong.

“Well.. except for that Sapphire that Blue Diamond kept from Pink’s court.”

“One of Pink Diamond’s sapphires is in Blue Diamond’s court?”

Blue Pearl’s comment shouldn’t of confused Yellow Pearl so much, but oddly it had. It seemed odd that Blue Diamond would keep one of Pink Diamond’s subjects after her shattering, they were quite notorious for being friendly with natives which was counterintuitive to Homeworld’s system of Imperialism.

“I don’t want to seem like I’m criticizing Blue Diamond, but why would she bring one of Pink Diamond’s Sapphire’s into her court?”

As stated by the other Pearl, the Sapphire seemed to be pro native much like her former Matriarch. She also couldn’t of took her in because of a lack of sapphires, Blue Diamond had literal legions of them. The answer eluded the Pearl as she did not know or comprehend what Blue Diamond has been feeling after Pink Diamond’s shattering.

“I.. Well, I don’t think... It’s my place to say.”

But Blue Pearl looks down, hands clasped together as she tries, anyway. It might not be her place to speak of her Diamond’s emotional state, or how she felt, But, really, it was just the two Pearls here. She could share.

“I think.. It’s how my Diamond is grieving the loss of Pink. Sapphires naturally occurring in pink hues is rather... rare, but on Pink’s colony, a few turned out that way, without her even trying. And Blue.. when... When Pink Diamond was shattered, she kept one that looked so similar to Pink.”

“Sp...Speaking of.. If.. It’s not rude to pry.. How is... your Diamond handling that... loss?”

The hand holding the spoon freezes as the light turns on.

Pink looks up like a deer in headlights, spoonful of vanilla ice cream a few inches from her mouth.

“I. um. You said I could have some..”
