in season 3 of shadowhunters, alec lightwood (one of the main characters, for those not familiar) at one point takes his boyfriend (and eventual canonical husband) to breakfast in what’s essentially the mess hall of the magical law enforcement-like place where alec works (that he runs, actually) and it’s kind of fraught because magnus (the boyfriend) is not strictly supposed to be there for all kinds of reasons that mostly have to do with in-universe discrimination metaphors (magnus is a downworlder and this place is run by shadowhunters like alec, oh, the scandal!), and so magnus says “you know it’s not too late to go out for breakfast, right?” and then ALEC SAYS “and miss pancake day? no way.”
and literally none of this has any true relevance to this blog except that this episode aired in early 2019 and so did the h50 episodes in which steve goes hogwild for danny’s pancakes (mainly 9.13 and 9.15), so apparently, early 2019 was a good time for tv representation of very tall pancake fans who are also dark-haired sharpshooters with a military background, one younger sister, mostly shitty parents and the weight of the world on their shoulders.
(also, lenkov, should you ever want to draw more parallels between steve mcgarrett and alec lightwood, a very beloved character, might i suggest just, you know, totally randomly, that you could… build your series finale around steve marrying a person who significantly changed his life for the better and waves his hands around a lot and happens to be a guy? i’m just saying, it worked very well for shadowhunters. just, you know. spitballing, really.)
@eg515 Haaaa, I’m selfishly glad about this because I’ve been thinking about it a lot too and it fascinates me. They’re such radically different characters in many ways and how they use their hands and bodies to communicate is also very different (or maybe the difference is in what they communicating, mainly?), but they do both do it a lot.
