Grace and some friends are hanging out at one of their houses after drinking at a bar and they're all drunk and one of them dares Grace to go into the bathroom and say bloodymary in the mirror three times and Grace just laughs. He's a middle school teacher he knows all about that dumb sleepover game that teenagers play but he agrees anyway because why not? He's had a few drinks and his friends are giggling about it and literally nothing is going to actually happen.

So he goes into the dark bathroom, lights a candle, and says bloodymary three times. Then he screams.

There was actually someone in the mirror. Someone with long dark hair and drenched in blood.

He runs out of the bathroom and all his friends think he's pulling a prank on them. Grace manages to convince himself that it's just the alcohol and his nerves.

The next day he wakes up hungover but he can't get the image of the person in the mirror out of his head. He was drunk and it was probably nothing but he is a scientist and if this was real it would be such an interesting discovery.

That night he plays the game again. He goes into the bathroom, shuts off the lights, lights a candle, and chants the name.

There they are again, bloodymary.

He backs away, pressed against his bathroom door in fear and then the figure looks up at him. Their hair falls out of their face and they say one word.

"Help."

I do not for a moment believe that Iroh was the only one absolutely besotted with that particular story. Even if Zuko isn’t so much into romance, the tragedy would have captivated him.

Imagine if one of your blorbos came to life and started a conversation with you about one of their traumas, which happens to also be your favorite part of their story.

Even Zuko recognizes that responding to this moment of vulnerability with a total breakdown of themes, tropes, and his thoughts on the poetry of the moment; is, mm, not correct.

I don't know how to articulate this well, but I really fucking hate the way a lot of thin writers write fat characters. Like how men write women "breasting boobily" there is something so dehumanizing about how fat characters are often written. "He waddled", "he lumbered", the writer of the book I'm reading always mentions this characters "fleshy hand" when he does something with his hand. Like, we already know that he's fat. There is no need to describe everything he does as "doing it fatly".
