As appalling as her workplace was her sense of safety was even worse. His ear folded back as the beakers shattered, the noise still ringing in his head. “With how you treat your equipment she must get you a lot of them.” He chuckled. “And you do give her gloves right? The last thing I need is her coming to me because her hands got cut up.”
Mint shrugged a little. “I provided her with a list of things to buy before she started working for me. I’m sure I remembered to put gloves on it.” She added with another shrug as she leaned against the counter and looked to him. “Even if it wasn’t, she would be a fool to touch glass without gloves and I’d consider it a valuable teaching lesson.” Her words might have been considered cruel, but her own gloved hand fidgeted against the counter in discomfort as she spoke.
“You seem to underestimate her ability to hurt herself through idiotic means.” He scoffed, leaning against the same counter. “But if that is something you told her to wear she wouldn’t disobey; she is good like that.”
He keeps staring at the other, staying silent as he read the expressions of her face. “You are uneasy. Is it because of me? You know I would not shut you down even if there were several violations.” He tilted his head to the other side and hummed, his eyes narrowing.
The chemist blinked, for a moment her expression faltering before she composed herself again, her hands curling into tight fists for the moment. “You’re hardly a concern to me.” She assured, standing up straight and patting stray dust and debris off her coat. Her previous unease was gone as she frowned at him. “Just another unannounced visitor and distraction.”
