Except it doesn’t. Because his plan dooms the world too. His plan takes away from the world, the single greatest fighting force it has and leaves the world to deal with Salem. RWBY hasn’t ever been about having the plan to win, it’s always been about fighting even when and especially when there isn’t a plan, it’s always been about the simple soul. Thats what Hopepunk is, and every time I see a fan try to rationalize running away and dooming the world, over fighting the fight that’s gonna happen anyway, I just shake my head.
You can’t run from someone that cant die, you can’t run from someone that can go forever and create endless hordes of soldiers, juggernauts, titans. Do you really think someone that could create that whale, couldn’t devise some way to pull Atlas out of the sky? Ironwood thinks that he is looking at the big picture but in reality he’s looking at the smallest picture of all. A single frame with Atlas, that leaves out the rest of the world. He has been dreaming that he had the superiority and power to outdo Salem, he has been delusional to think that he knew better than a man with a thousands of lifetimes of work, a flawed man who got just as much wrong as he got right. But a man still who understood the enemy better than -anyone-.
He is so sure of his plan, he doesn’t see the other side of it. He believes in keeping the relic and maiden away from Salem, he keeps her from winning. But if he isn’t powerful enough to stand his ground and -needs- to run away into space, then how could he ever hope to keep the rest of the world safe while up there? Having to split his forces between three other kingdoms, all which would be in a mass panic because with Atlas gone, Salem has no real deterrent anymore. Maidens? She can just kill everyone and eventually the powers will go somewhere she can control. That will give her the relics and with three relics and three maidens, along with her own power, what does Atlas even matter anymore? She’ll starve them out or pull them down.
At least with team rwby, the goal is clear. Fight. Because you’re going to have to eventually, it might as well be on our terms. Fight and find the way to beat her without killing her, something that wasn’t gonna happen in space atlas.
