Why is it Fascism to not want to see art of character having sex with their children or something like that?

You're conflating "I don't want to see that" with "Nobody should write/draw that."

You're allowed to have boundaries. You're allowed to ask people to properly tag things. You're allowed to block those tags and those people. You are allowed to leave a space you're uncomfortable in. You are allowed to, and, in fact, encouraged to curate your own internet experience yourself. These are good and healthy behaviors.

The moment you let your personal feelings dictate what you believe other people can and cannot do with fictional characters, even out of your sight, even in the privacy of their own spaces, is the moment you fall into fascist thinking. This is the core of being anti-ship - the idea that because you find certain content distasteful or even triggering, nobody anywhere should be allowed to produce or engage with said content. That is censorship. That is fascism.

I am proship. I have a lot of ship tags blocked/filtered. These things are not antithetical to each other. In the grand scheme of things, I don't actually care that people are creating content for those ships, I just don't want to see it, so I've used to tools at my disposal to curate my own internet experience. They have their sandbox, and I'm happy to let them play in it, but I'm not going to join them. Simple as.

Anti-shippers, on the other hand, see that sandbox and think it's okay to barge over there and tell people they shouldn't be playing in it. They think it's okay to try to have that sandbox removed. "What if the sandbox is dangerous?" If that's what you think, then avoid it. You don't have to play in it. You don't even have to associate with people who play in it. If somebody is trying to force you or trick you or guilt you into playing in that sandbox, then they're in the wrong. If you want to talk about how dangerous you think the sandbox is, that's your right, but be aware that if you approach the sandbox on your own and attempt to sermonize, the people playing there are rightfully gonna get pissed off at you.

Do you understand now? If not, there are more posts about this. I'm answering this on the generous assumption that this is genuine question being asked in good faith, but it will be the last time.

As an addendum: "I don't care about how other people play with fictional characters" does not in any way correlate to "I condone these actions/scenarios happening in real life." That sort of conclusion speaks more to your own thought patterns than anybody else's.

A controversial take but as a woman who’s been wronged by men several times before, I genuinely find all those “men bad” and “men should die” posts in poor taste and an opposite of what feminism is.

I know we all say “not all men”—because it’s really is not all men—but how would you feel if you saw a “women bad” or “women should die” post made by a man and then he said “well it’s not All Women so if you’re not xyz then this post isn’t about You”?

So I don’t know. I think instead of a vague “men bad” or “men should die” post and “well if you’re a good man then this post isn’t about you” we should call out specific harmful behaviors without grouping All Men together and expecting good men to 1.) know this post isn’t about them 2.) not feel Bad about / unsafe for being a man whose only crime is being a man.

And if you genuinely think innocent men are bad and deserving of mistreatment and bad things just because they’re men then please block me because you’re the type of person I want to stay as far away from as I can and you do not represent feminism.

BECAUSE YOUR BLORBOS ARE THEIR BLORBOS TOO. there is nothing you can do about that. and making a “call out post” against these people will just make you a bully who thinks harassing real people over fictional characters is justified.

how people enjoy your blorbos and how they portray your blorbos in their fanfics, fan art, headcanons, edits are literally NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

the world does not revolve around you, and there will always be things that upset you. BUT the good news is that you literally don’t have to care or even acknowledge things that upset you at all. that’s what the block and mute buttons are for. you cannot control what other people do, even when it involves your blorbos, but you can curate your own internet experiences.

you can either be mad at strangers for the sake of fictional characters, or you can enjoy your fandom experience by focusing on the things YOU do enjoy.

It is objectively Good for children to have the chance to practise grief, fear, loss and sadness in safe, low-stakes environments where they don't actually lose anything and aren't in any danger

because otherwise the first time they learn to process those feelings will be when it IS real and it DOES matter.

some good books to start em young are things like Goodbye Mog or The Sad Book or children's horror stories like Goosebumps. and yeah like. Watership Down, Black Beauty, Animals of Farthing Wood, Bambi - stuff that deals with grief and loss in a vivid but age-appropriate way.

as for scary things. this one is weird because quite frankly small children have wild imaginations and will develop fears of some very random things whether or not they're exposed to scary media. like I was scared by watching Jurassic Park as a kid. reasonable. normal. how did this fear manifest? I got scared of the showerhead because it reminded me of the spitting dinosaur. Make that make sense. If you only ever show kids like, Care Bears, they will protect almost as intense a fear onto that as they would onto Dark Crystal or the Black Cauldron - the story is just a cipher for them to process their bigger feelings.

also, and on the other hand. if you're 30+ years old and still scared of Muppets and animated animals you may have an actual problem. I'm not saying that in a perjorative sense but like. are you good?

I recently saw a pretty serious reviewer arguing that books like Old Yeller, The Yearling, The Bridge to Terabithia, and Where the Red Ferns Grow are problematic because they're manipulating children into feeling sad and/or disturbed (iirc, it was specifically along the lines of "they (the books) are teaching children to accept whatever bad things happen to them". )

Yes, these books are sad. That's the whole point! Sometimes terrible things will happen to you, sometimes you'll have to do something that absolutely breaks your heart, sometimes you'll lose people or animals that you loved dearly and you'll just have to learn how to carry on., because that's how life works!

Introducing these ideas at a young age is a good thing. Kids cannot live sheltered from these feelings- they'll come, regardless of how protective you are as a parent
