Nobody knows if writing a story is possible
So we know that after her release Morgan was Lillian's caretaker for a little while before she ended up being transferred to Site 43, but do you think once she got to Site 43 she was paired up with a new caretaker (one who was hopefully more suited for it than Morgan) or did she start living on her own again?
I leave it up to whoever wants to write a "fix-it" fic, but personally I envisioned that she'd have a larger support system with one or two primary caretakers. I imagine Site-43's administration would have a vested interest in helping her.
Lillian's time in containment obviously gave her many mental problems, but do you think it also left her with any kind of long lasting physical ailments/disabilities afterwards?
I imagine so. What specifically, though, I leave up to headcanon. I imagine she has difficulty with eating after release, personally.
Did Brynes’ employment at the Foundation at all affect who he was and what he did? If never became a member of the SCP Foundation would he still become the abusive monster in 8980 or would he just be some shitty asshole?
I couldn't tell you for certain — I didn't really think so much about alternative continuities — but I imagine the Foundation as an environment exacerbated his tendencies tenfold, especially under the psuedo-protection of Thomas Graham as the Site Director.
Where does bryness misogyny comes from ? Does it originates from his problems with his mother, or a another female authority figure in his life ?
It doesn't really "originate" from anywhere. He was just never taught it was wrong, was never challenged on his beliefs. He grew up in an environment with strict gender roles and felt it was an insult to him that a woman was outperforming him in his own field.
Not asking you to say what it is cuz it's obviously ambiguous for a reason but do you have a definitive answer in your head for the unknown concept Dr. Byrnes erased from Lillian's mind or does what you envision it as change sometimes?
I do. Technically, I have a few ideas, but I had one specific one in mind while writing.
i spent an hour and a half on this.
this is probably the most specific thing you've been asked about 8980. but what are the fonts that you use throughout the article? more specifically for the ethics committee sections. i've tried looking for it for a bit, and i haven't been able to find it. i hope you have a nice day!!
I'm glad you asked!
The Ethics Committee font in the article is Departure Mono, an Open Font License monospace pixel font. Throughout writing I flip-flopped on many different pixel fonts, but all of them had issues with either the display, features, or just vibes. This is the first font I came acrossnthat really got everything down pat.
As for the other fonts in the article, all of them were inherited from the Basalt theme, though I played around a bit with font weights. Check it out!
Do you think if Byrnes ever somehow got his memories of his time at the Foundation back that he would feel any kind of regret or remorse for what he did to Lillian?
Maybe. But most likely, I think he'd need to face consequences for his actions before any kind of remorse would kick in.
I recently discovered SCP 8980 and I'm still recovering lol. Truly harrowing stuff you wrote. That poor woman 🥺. I haven't wanted to give a character a hug and tell them everything's gonna be okay so badly. I also read Lillian's poem from Feminine Wails and saw you discuss your headcanon for her recovering in a different site, so I'm very glad that the future doesn't seem entirely bleak for her.
Glad you liked it, hope it brought a little closure :)
I don't know if you've been asked this question, but given Dr. Byrnes's huge misogyny, how did he treat female employees? For example, did he secretly insult junior female employees or something like that?
I mean, he treated them in the way most misogynistic bosses would, really. Stuff like not picking them for promotion, treating them harsher than their male colleagues, insulting them behind their back, etc.
my idea for a new tumblr dash UI update. what do you all think.
Categorizing Tosafos with the other side commentaries is vile. He is SPECIAL.

Do you think SCP-8980 will remains its impact if the roles were reversed ? (Lillian as the abuser, dr Christopher as the abused.)
Not at all. Mainly because the piece is about systematic misogyny, and if Marley was the perpetrator instead of the victim, it would undermine the central theme of the work.
Thinking about Francis Wojciechoski and Lillian Marley.
Idk EXACTLY where i am going with these thoughts but i felt Like writting them down.
-Lillian: being a woman in a misoginistic place of work, being a simple human, the story not really showing us her doing anything evil and having basically no chance to defend herself even at the end. Is a lot closer to being the image of a perfect victim than Francis, who: has Killed (a lot), is a reality bender, is a man and Killed his abuser himself.
Yet both Stories treat the abuse they suffer with the seriousness that they deserve.
-The relationship with their abusers are also very diferent. Lillian already didn't like Dr Byrnes and this only got worse and worse until she eventually was broken by him, leaving her with a brainwashed sense of "respect" for male figures (as seen by the notes of her psychiatrist at the end with the whole "sir" thing). While Francis did love Lily, damn, he was literally thinking about living a happy life with her before taking her down.
-Their abusers are also Like them in that regard, with Byrnes despising Lillian and Lily LOVING Francis (tho not in a good way)
-And as a final note, Lillian, thanks to her education, seems pretty aware (before Being "broken" of course) about what she is going through, while Francis only realised he was raped 6 Years after Lily died.
they're both having it rough there
Just wanted to say I loved SCP-8980 and it's the first SCP to really get under my skin in a long, long time. Great work!
Thank you! <3
