MXTX mains by ascending order of how much fun they'd have if their love interest shrank to pocket size:
6 Lan Wangji -- this poses a significant impediment to his sex life and also is nearly as stressful as wei ying running around in paper man form, but much less easily reversed.
5 Luo Binghe -- look, tiny shizun is cute, but the novelty is going to wear off quick and then what? this shizun has to fly up on a tiny sword to even pat Luo Binghe's head, his lap is not big enough for Binghe to lie on, it's just not sustainable.
4 Hua Cheng -- theoretically he's not against this it's just that xie lian would manage to be the most stressful unholy terror if he was mouse-sized, I think.
3 Shen Qingqiu -- actually he loves this, look at the itty-bitty binghe! but his ability to enjoy it is dampened by luo binghe's genuine and obvious misery with the situation. binghe worked so hard to get taller than shizun and now it's all ruined! again!
2 Xie Lian -- same as shen qingqiu actually he thinks smol san lang is very cute, and hua cheng is better at handling this development than luo binghe. unfortunately it does kind of remind them of when hua cheng was a helpless ghost light and xie lian was being tortured.
1 Wei Wuxian -- he's making lan zhan a tiny guqin.
Just tried to play an ancient flute and it started filling the room with this awful miasma that wont go away
Everytime I watch the untamed with someone new and they ask what the black smoke that comes out of the flute is, instead of going into an explanation about resentful energy I’m just like it’s the Bad Vibes ™️
I’ll never stop thinking about the themes of rumor/reputation that run through MXTX’s works. You’re just…invited to constantly judge and misunderstand people the same way they’re judged and misunderstood by the people around them. You have to take care not to fall into the trap. But also walk this tightrope of accepting a character’s complexity and faults.
This was 100% me with Pei Ming- I totally hated him for like 3/4 of the story. When he showed up at Mount Tonglu I rolled my eyes ready to hate him all over again. But then I didn’t. He was funny and helpful and noble and vulnerable. And don’t get be wrong he still def has his flaws (see: Pei Su, womanizing) but I realized I fell into the trap of reputation that MXTX has sent and I hadn’t consider that there was more to this guy. Now he’s one of my favorite characters.
I think part of the reason I’m so obsessed with MXTX’s works is the way that each story seems to hold you gently as say “Your kindness mattered. It didn’t alleviate the suffering, it did not undo the pain. But your kindness mattered.”
Kindness could not erase Luo Binghe’s abuse, but it changed the story into a kinder one.
Kindness did not stop Wei Wuxian’s death, but it did save a-Yuan.
Kindness did not undo Xie Lian’s suffering, but it renewed his sincerity to help others.
Kindness did not change the entire world, but it helped create a softer future.
Its such a nice message, that maybe kindness will not protect you, maybe you don’t see the outcome of it, but you should still try to be kind, and I love that honestly.

How I think each MXTX protagonist would adapt to technology:
SQQ: we all know exactly how this man utilizes the internet. It got him killed and he is not the type to learn from his mistakes
Wei Wuxian: this man would go on a Wikipedia deep dive that surpasses the Mariana Trench in depth. Three weeks in he’s learning how to code his own ghost detecting app.
Xie Lian: It is easier to teach your grandmother how to order a pizza online than explain google to this man. He just looks so kindly confused the whole time. Secretly, he understands it perfectly and is just playing a funny joke on you. He enjoys watching sword videos and sending outdated memes to Hua Cheng.
As for the love interests:
LBH: He loves the recipes, and the ability to keep track of someone else’s phone at all times. However he will fry that laptop in an instant if he thinks his Shizun loves it more than spending time with him.
Lan Wangji: He uses it for three things in order of importance: cute rabbit pictures, guqin music he hasn’t heard, and porn
Hua Cheng: he would quickly become obsessed with taking the perfect selfie. Xie Lian finds the trash folder on his phone and falls in love with all the reject pictures. To his husband’s horror he makes a collage of them and sets them as his phone background.
Also Lan Wangji has the most scarily organized email inbox you’ve ever seen

As Lan Wangji’s defense lawyer, Wei Wuxian was suggesting that Lan Wangji was straight which is obviously intolerable. Thus any and all of Lan Wangji’s alleged actions were justified. I ask the jury for a not guilty verdict thank you.
When it comes to family- all bets are off
I’ve been silent on this for a while but I I cannot be any longer. Xie Lian is not a twink. That guy may have flawless skin and a baby face but he’s undoubtedly jacked. He’s a twunk, minimum on the twink to hunk spectrum. This man could bench press a boulder, his husband, and you at the same time if he felt like it. The only reason he wouldn’t is that he’s too polite and Hua Cheng would die (again) of jealousy.
IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS
As someone who plays DnD, let me break down what’s going on with the mxtx characters:
SQQ is an example of what happens when someone puts all their points into Charisma and uses wisdom as a dump stat.
WWX is what happens when someone puts all their points into intelligence and never bothers to roll an insight check.
Xie Lian is what happens when someone has a character with fantastic stats, but cannot roll above a 5 to save their life.
When Hua Cheng is around Xie Lian gets to roll with advantage

How MXTX characters would react to the assassination of the UHC CEO
Wei Wuxian: has anyone seen Wei Wuxian and Luigi Mangione in the same room? 👀
Lan Wangji: 100% ready to aide and abet
Jiang Cheng: Runs to review the sect healthcare plan - he has enough problems without looking out for assassins.
Lan Xichen: understands the motive but did Luigi try playing calming music for the CEOs before resorting to violence? 🥺
Jin Guangyao: oh so some people get lauded as heroes when they commit murder? SMH double standard.
Nie Mingjue: appreciates martial artistry when he sees it. The stance? How quickly he cleared the jam? A true warrior.
Xue Yang: it lacked a certain pizazz, a stabbing would have been much more visually effective
Wen Qing: 100% approves bureaucrats should have no authority over doctors
