the contrasting design symbolism between orufrey drives me crazy. olruggio, who projects an image of harshness but is actually tender and kind, wears black on the outside, but an open-collared white shirt close to his heart.

and then there's qifrey, with his white outer outfit and tight, high-collared, black inner shirt. his gentle exterior contrasted with how tightly he's keeping his own darkness to himself.

#so true…#talking to coworkers about another sewing machine adjustment i had to make #“wow that thing's always on the fritz huh?”#well you see in order to be good at sewing you must be a kind of artificer #and be as in tune with your machine as you would be with your own body #and also yeah it's an old beast so I gotta be wary of certain things.#unironically though me learning to listen for things Happening in my sewing machine #has also helped me at work by being able to hear when the printers run out of paper before they display an error message #i can also hear if the grinders are on the wrong setting but I don't always catch that in time alas

Your character needs to be put through horrors so great that they don't even know how to ever talk about what happened. Years have passed and they have people they love and trust with their life now, but they're still unable to tell them about everything they've been through.

It's just too much and they've been shaped by it so thoroughly that talking about it in any way would feel like they're peeling their skin off and completely exposing every vulnerable part of themself.

#and then you need to make them pair bonded with a character who is incapable of offering comfort/advice #& is allergic to asking follow up questions #the miscommunication siblingsss #lancer pc posting again #listen they both grew up in a hyper secretive rebel cell that somewhat regularly had folks hurt/killed in missions #they were both set up for failure wrt being able to adequately express their emotions #even BEFORE you consider his sister's numbness to her own emotion #neither of them were coming out of this with healthy communication styles #instead they both say “my emotions don't matter only the mission” & then let their other problems Fester #(for Pax this means she can kiss her partner while ignoring her ex situationship until she's literally trying to kill her)#(for Miller this means ignoring the fact that his cyborg arm keeps moving on its own & not telling anyone about it)#(though tbf he WOULD have told people about it if his friend didn't insinuate that it might get him barred from piloting)#(if that didn't happen Everyone would know about it by now. but instead now he's terrified to say anything 👍)#(& the longer it goes the worse it gets 🎉 I'm sure nothing bad is gonna happen from him keeping this secret for weeks/months)

#confessions of a real ghost hunter my beloved #found it at myopic (2nd hand bookshop)#it's a first hand account of a guy who “learned to be a ghost hunter” but is also meant as a cautionary tale to convince you Not to do that #however. the stories he offers are all like: i was asked to look for a ghost but i couldnt find one.#or: i was asked to banish a dangerous ghost & was successful. but then it followed ME & so I sent it back #& the ghost then burnt down the trailer of the family that hired me. bc i sent the ghost back #he never has a single success story & also claims to have learned from literally Just Some Guy he met at a hotel in hawaii #and ofc it's chock full of grammatical/spelling errors #i love it so much. it is so dear to me

the highs and lows of being deep in the lancer character building tank is coming up with a really cool synergy only to be afraid to share it because you just know that the entire community has the exact same brainworms you do and has probably come up with a better version of what you came up with.

#op this is real but also the Greater Lancer CommunityTM tends to be obsessed w optimization to the point they shoot themselves in the foot #eg: my party's WW player went digging on lancer forums looking for inspo for their ww build (also assuming others had Better Ideas)#only to discover the general consensus was that the frame was too squishy (since there are a million ways to negate armor)#& so there wasn't actually much theorycrafting of the ww frame available bc everyone was like “yeah this frame sucks. not worth it”#which like. on the one hand they are technically not Wrong (though imo that's what the superior brace is for)#but on the other hand that kind of thinking Completely misses the point on what makes Lancer Work #bc imo you can make ANY combo viable w enough creativity &-- most importantly-- GOOD PARTY COMP #my atlas + gorgon build would probably be torn to ribbons by forum poasters #between my terashima blade haterisms + the fact that he goes entire LLs w/o hiding #but that's bc his build only WORKS so well bc his sister pilots a ww & gives him symp shield #our party is honestly so defender pilled (atlas w scylla/vorpal gun + white witch + saladin + lich)#that even though most of our party is pretty squishy they're also all basically unkillable #<- things said moments before disaster i know #anyways. sorry to hijack your post to rant about my current party comp in the tags #but tldr the most Fun thing about lancer imo is that you can make literally Any build work #& anyone saying your singular build isn't optimized enough is playing the game wrong #ntm the fact that like… sometimes characters are People… who make Choices that aren't always 100% optimal…#like that is THE SHITTT to me. it's always juicy when a character makes a “bad” choice #so what if your frame isn't As Powerful as it could be!! if it makes sense for the character then go for it!!!!#(insert rant about the ways in which my pc's build + his sister's reflect their own psyches & codependency on each other here)#be free. make crazy builds that only You would come up with.#what works perfect for one party would be dead round 2 for another. there is no objective “better” only different

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because

a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.

b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton

c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance

So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.

And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’

And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this

I don’t know a lot about sewing, but I want to make or have my mom make some linen pants & shirts for when I’m watering, because it gets to 105 here and we have mosquitos so I need to be covered. What type of linen do I buy? Also, linen pajama shorts, yes/no?

(I’ve been wearing my renfaire pants which are a linen mix, I think. But the frikking mosquitos that hide in the tomatoes get my arms)
