Matcha went ahead and sat in the third available chair more carefully now that he had the tea in his hands, folding his legs carefully in the seat and playing absentmindedly with his jet-black braid of hair while listening to the Beanish prince talk about Mercutio. That was someone he knew his father liked to ask about, always asking of his progress, of what he tended to do. The contact, unfortunately, wasn’t part of Mercutio’s section (they were part of Jade’s section, specifically, as they were a spear-using guard), so they couldn’t say much about Mercutio. Except that Peasley was regarded as his best friend, as close as real peas in a pod.
The shy Bean lowered his head at hearing the last part of Peasley’s rambles, though, remembering that his elder brother had ended up kidnapping his nephew, and that wasn’t fair, even for someone as kind and quiet as him. “That’s horrible, what my brother did to your best friend… I do hope Mercutio’s okay..”
{ - ❁ - } Hyacinth, on the other hand, gave a few surprised blinks, gasping lightly once Peasley had mentioned Euryale again, asking how he’d known she existed. He hadn’t expected to be asked, and he felt a tiny bit of shame in his stomach as he held his tea close to him, frowning at the reflective surface and staring into the amber-colored liquid pensively.
❁ – “..To be having honesty, I managed to find some kind of residence shortly after its owner left. I saw diaries in there, along with some food and materials I would say.. are having alchemical and potion-making properties.
They all had the same little red spinel on the cover, and upon opening the oldest of them, I learnt the identity. Stheno Gerakki had written them. There was a lot that I’d found out, from carefully studying them during her absence. There was quite a few of her tomes missing, judging by some handprints in the frost that were not my own, so someone must surely have been there not too long before I came across it during the spring. Back when the Teal Rebellion had begun, of course..
It was being weird, reading through Stheno’s private-most thoughts like someone who is having the reading of minds with too much of the closeness.. That is where I learnt of her pain towards Queen Euryale- apparently, they were being sisters, and Euryale had been the one to have the marrying of King Nerfava so long ago. She must have been far off enough in the past of the Kingdom that not many remember her rule today, because of Lady Lima trying to have the up-covering of anything related to Cackletta and magic and things like that. I know my parents don’t have the remembering, and their minds are still being sharper than Bowser’s teeth.”
{ - ❁ - } Hyacinth sighed gently with hints of sadness and curiosity layered carefully in his voice, his red and purple eyes now glancing at Peasley in a thoughtful manner as he thought over what he had read. He gave a sad chuckle, sipping at his way-too-sweet tea and then looking back at Peasley, looking at the other Bean’s purple eyes with a hint of wistfulness in his expression.
❁ – “You know, Euryale was being described as having purple eyes and she had hair being poofier than my best souffle, eheh. You resemble her so much, Peasley, although your hair’s color more has the resembling of someone else I had the reading about in Stheno’s journals. A man called Puck, I think. A blonde Bean who is being so much like you, in so many ways- down to the mastering of light magic for the sparkling of your hair, and a connection to magic as old as time, through family.
He was having much of the same confidence as you, and he loved showing off, from what Stheno’s written.. Perhaps she was close to him, considering he was her father, like you are with the current Queen. You may be all that is being left of Euryale’s legacy, while my son of stupidity is ruining what is left of her sister’s by his mere existence alone..”
The Beanish prince offered a sympathetic look towards Matcha, hearing the near silent remark. His kind stare shifted downwards for a moment, before being raised back up, trying his best to smile.
He wanted to offer some sort of sincerity towards him, perhaps an apology for not even realizing how any of the Gerakobittsu’s themselves would feel about Violet’s betrayal, and the disappearance of one of their own. Not to mention it was a thoughtful gesture, for Matcha to be concerned about his best friend.
“I’m sure Mercutio will be fine.” Peasley spoke up, in an attempt to lift the spirits of them all. “He’s a strong, stubborn Bean. I do hope he’ll persevere, I know he has it in him too, but...” He couldn’t bring himself to even finish that thought, to even indulge his anxieties about what Violet wasn’t afraid to do to his flesh and blood. “I’m sorry about you having to hear all these things about what’s going on. It’s not easy to dwell on all these awful occurrences. It will find a resolve though, it has to.”
Taking in one deep breath, Peasley shifted his attention towards Hyacinth. He needed to attend to a more spur-of-the-moment matter, one much more mundane, but it was still important to him. The matter of his grandmother concerned him a lot, she merely felt of importance to him, in both how they were alike, and how she tied the present day royals to the likes of witches.
How much he didn’t like it was irrelevant, it still never left his mind that within him was some sort of magical essence, one he could not tap in, but he knew was there. What truly bothered him was how it became so difficult to become proud of that sort of thing, thanks to the wrongs his great aunt and cousin had done. However, that was a flame to be ignited, burning the bridge of that sourness and turning it into belief towards his family. He had to. Hyacinth wanted him to. His mother no doubt would agree, the Lima’s not so much.
On that note of Hyacinth and the Gerakki family, Peasley listened to the elder’s words. Already, there was a lot to take in, including the answer as to how he knew who Euryale was.
“You noticed Stheno went missing, so you essentially snooped around? I can’t say I approve much of that as a concept, however, I wouldn’t be able to blame you if you were curious about another resident in Joke’s End of all places, especially one such as Stheno. ... How curious though that there are some books missing. It makes me wonder just how much people got on her trail, considering why she left Joke’s End in the first place.”
In all honesty, it brought some validation to the Prince when he had heard he resembled his grandmother. It was something his mother told him, no doubt it was why Euryale was one of his middle names. It made him feel close to the previous Queen, despite her being deceased.
Unexpectedly, he found himself raising an eyebrow at the mention of another name, Puck. He was Stheno and Euryale’s father, he wondered. He heard the tale of a Bean named Phorcys, or Puck, a trickster of a performer known for his charisma and confidence. He existed so long ago, known in tales after he recklessly ventured into the depths of Chucklehuck Woods, returning safely with more magic in his arsenal.
Once more, it brought a sense of warmth that he was very alike to his ancestors, even if it didn’t sit well with him that he was more like a Gerakki than he would like to admit. ...But that didn’t have to be a bad thing. That was what he had to learn.
“Thank you for telling me all of this, Hyacinth. Really, it’s doing a lot more good than I thought it would, getting to hear about my, er, the Gerakki family. You’re right in your words, and it does help in motivating me. I need to do my best in holding up this Kingdom and it’s residents, because it’s what Euryale would do. But... she wouldn’t want me turning my back on her sister, either.”
