The Soup Store: A Divine Comedy
One man gets lost in a library
Where the shelves are anything but literary
Once the man had stepped inside,
He takes his buzzing phone to find
A call for help from a distant friend
Though he doesn't know to what end
He boops the phone and says a greeting,
"Hello, dear friend, what's all the trilling?"
"I'm in dire need of your assistance,
I need your help, right now, this instant!"
"My friend," he says, "i hold you dear,
But I am here preoccupied with fear
For the clothing i need has disappeared.
How could it be, it's all so queer!"
"What do you mean," the friend had said,
"That the clothes had disappeared?
Come now, friend, you like to jest,
Now quit your whining and find a vest."
"I can't," he says, "for I stray in the aisles,
There's nothing here but meals in metals,
A watery concoction cooked with devotion,
Or what passes as love from a corporation."
"My friend," from the phone, "That is called soup,
Pray tell, why would you think to snoop
For clothing when the store you're in
Sells nothing but TV din(ner)?
I say to you, as man to man,
Get out the store which sells those cans—"
"Alright!" He says, "You could have said
All of this with your volume stead
I tell you now, to shut your mouth!"
Silence falls between two men,
Felt across distance even then,
With moments interrupted by the sound of walking,
He picks the phone up again and begins talking
"My friend, I say again," he says,
"There's nothing here but soups for days,
And before you ask, I'll say it early,
I'm shopping in a place that makes them many."
"You daft bastard," said from the phone,
"Why shop for clothes at the soup's home?
