2020: The Year From Hell
inspired by: this & this
So that was a fucking lie.
My unimportant opinion about the ending of Supernatural and especially Dean badass Winchester.
Not for fucking B*bros. If you ship 2 brothers in a romantic way, get the fuck outta here.
Let's go:
Sam was originally the protagonist. It was his story, the story of a special child with special psychic abilities and visions (premonitions, telekinesis, exorcise demons), while Dean was officially planned to be the Deuteragonist. Dean was just there to support Sam and his story. Dean was reduced to "daddy's soldier, car, pie." You can clearly see where the focus lies in the first seasons:
Season 1: Sam being the special, mysterious child with psychic abilities, while Dean being raised as daddy's little soldier boy.
Season 2: Azazel's plan for Sam being the leader of his apocalypse army; Dean selling his soul for Sams resurrection.
Season 3: Sam bonding with Ruby, Dean dying.
Season 4: Still focus on Sam and Ruby, Sam's power raising, Demonic Sam, Sam killing Lilith, Sam frees Lucifer from his cage, Sam started the apocalypse, Sam, Sam, Sam!
Season 5: Sam (surprise!) going into the cage with Lucifer and Michael, saving earth. Dean is left alone.
This was supposed to be Sam's story.
The "problem" was, the fandom was always more into Dean/Jensen. The fandom simply was more attracted to Jensen and cared more about Dean than about Sam.
Since the important arc was just about Sam, the story got boring, Sam got annoying, the rating went down. SPN was supposed to end after season 5.
This is when they realised, they have to make drastic changes if they want the series to survive, so they involved new characters and strong bonds. They started to build a family. They started to give Dean shitloads of developments and arcs, they FINALLY gave Jensen's character depth. And it worked.
It started with 2 brothers, but it wouldn't have lasted with just the two of them, especially when the important part of the story is just about one brother while the second one is reduced to a bare minimum!
The changes lead to family. And it was exactly that family, that rescued and carried the series: Misha. Rob. Mark (S). Mark (P). Ruth. Felicia. Gen. Ty. Jim. Alex. Kim. Samantha. Jeffrey. Sebastian. Osric. Alona. Shoshannah. Kathryn. Danneel. Rachel. David. Briana. Richard. Timothy. And many more!
Who was in the finale? Yeaahhhh, right...
But this isn't even my worst issue. (Even if they erased every single character of the past 15 years, it isn't the worst part. Wow, if that isn't speaking for itself...)
What I am taking extremely personal is what they did to Dean. They erased his whole development. They erased his whole arc. They erased him! They reduced him to "soldier, car, pie" AGAIN, in the worst and most disrespectful possible way! Is this your magical "full circle" writing?
They really made him eating pie, saying "If we don't continue living, this sacrifice was for nothing." to kill him exactly 5 minutes later! They made him die 5 minutes after he finally had a free will, after accepting he is not the way he saw himself his whole, abusive life. For the first time ever, he had a chance. They killed him like he was "supposed to" in season 1, dying on a hunt as daddy's little soldier boy. They made him die alone. They made him driving his car in heaven. They reduced him so extremely bad again, it's ridiculous! There is literally nothing they could have done worse!
you aren’t alone at the table anymore, vanya.
