Back to 96. One of the most lyrical albums of 96. Mad underrated MC and album! On top of that Diamond D hits you with one of my favorite sample flips of that year for this remix...This is another criminally slept on album worth checking for!
Quick break from 96.. This track was recorded 16 years ago, but sounds like it could have been recorded literally last week.
Dope posse cut brought together by the artist fka Mos Def and Kweli protesting police brutality in general but more specifically the shooting of Amadou Diallo in NY. I personally could’ve done without the Rev. Rollo Goodwin feature, but all around dope rhymes, visuals, and message. Definitely fitting in these tough times!

I’m pretty sure the single dropped in 96, but whatever...Very unique group..They had their own aesthetic, sound, style, and slang. Remember not understanding a damn thing they were talking about and loving their music anyways!

This song in a nutshell is the 1996 Hip Hop state of the Union. Dilla on the beat..Pos and Dave on the rhymes. Cameos from Native tongues and extended fam: ATCQ, Common Sense, Mos Def, and even Maury Povich and Jerry Stackhouse..I am probably missing some people...Too many dope lines to quote! And the song is as relevant in 2016 as it was in 96!

Yeah 96!!!... This one was from The Coming sessions but never made the album. Biggie Smalls and Busta Rhymes over a Dilla beat.. Oh yeah and according to Dilla, Nas was supposed to be on this song as well...One listen at the Biggie verse and u can probably guess why the song got shelved. Wheeeew!!

Dope interview with Busta in his relationship to Dilla! 4:47-7:10 Busta describes what it was like to write to J DIlla’s Still Shining beat. I always loved digging for the creative process behind the records and art I enjoy. This definitely made me revisit the track and appreciate both artists even more!
