hello, I was wondering how you would say that someone is 'close minded' in German if that's okay? Thankyou!!
its translation is âengstirnigâ. so youâd say âdiese Person ist engstirnig.â
thatâs the simple answer. however, i canât say that iâve heard this very often. i canât really describe it but we usually go about a different way to express that, like we have more specific words for in what way a person is close minded so weâd rather use those, unless itâs a very generally narrow minded person. you could say a person is âkleinkariertâ which means they are petty, âspieĂigâ which means stuffy or square but is also colloquially used to say close minded. or you could call a person âvoreingenommenâ (prejudiced) or âintolerantâ (intolerant). another common one is âkonservativâ (conservative, traditional) which often goes hand in hand with being close minded.
this is just my experience but i feel like weâd specify sooner than just saying someoneâs close minded. however, you are perfectly fine using âengstirnigâ, as everybody will know what you mean and it sounds fine.Â
hope this didnât confuse you too much, i just didnât feel like giving you the simple translation would suffice in this case.Â
