I know I don’t tend to post private stuff on here, but I need your help right now.
Some of you may know this, others not, but I’m an author for an LGBT publisher called LessThanThree Press. Today, I received my royalty report for this quarter and I sold only four copies for both of my books combined which has me worried my contract won’t be renewed. I do not want to be back at square one.
A little backstory about me: I’m 22 years old and have been struggling with depression and chronic pain for 10 years. I’m pan, ace, and nonbinary. I live with my parents and four siblings in a way too small house meant for four people max and we’ve been buried in debt our entire lives.
Due to my mental health problems, I can’t work full-time in a “regular job” which made me a freelance writer and author and stopped me from making enough money to move out. I already feel guilty for costing my parents money, even if they’ve always supported my career choices, and the thought of having to tell them that my publisher will no longer have me makes me nauseous.
On top of this, I’ve also been working towards getting breast reduction surgery to ease my dysphoria and hopefully get rid of my chronic back pain which has forced me to turn down a job in the past because I can’t stand on my feet for long periods of time without being incapable of lifting my arms the next day. However, even if I can get my insurance to cover parts of the 6000€ this would cost, it would still force me to pay the rest.
Now, I’m not asking you to buy my books if you don’t want to read them, but I am asking you to consider spreading the word.
My first book was written during a very dark time in my life and contains detailed descriptions on what it was like for me to deal with suicidal thoughts, self-harm, depression and severe anxiety. It’s called Giving Up and you can find it on Amazon, read reviews on GoodReads, or buy it directly from my Publisher.
My second was written a year later. It’s about two immortal guys and their two friends. There’s a romance between their two female friends, one of whom is a black bi woman, the other one a white lesbian. The two immortals are both gay, brown men. It’s called The Thing About Forever, and can also be found on Amazon, and my Publisher’s site.
Please help me keep my contract and spread the word! All I’ve ever wanted was to be a writer and tell stories. It’s the only thing that’s keeping me going right now! Thank you <3
