Katara is living her BEST LIFE in the OG cartoon. She almost single-handedly finds and rescues the most powerful spiritual figure in the entire world. He thinks she’s extremely cool and offers to personally escort her to the other side of the world so she can learn how to waterbend, something she’s desperately wanted her entire life. She then gets the chance to leave her hometown for the first time EVER and travel the world, being dashingly heroic as she incites uprisings and kicks ass. She surpasses the Avatar in waterbending and becomes *his* teacher. She’s a major player in saving the world from the colonial power that tried to destroy her entire culture. The Avatar – again, *the* powerful spiritual hero she spent her childhood listening to stories about and hoping would return, whose life she has now saved multiple times – is her best friend and biggest fan, and she is absolutely locking him down romantically by the end of the series.
