How are you faring in the netherlands? Black pete season is about kick off again

I came back from Holland in October but Zwarte Piet has always been an issue with me...

I don’t know if your familiar with the story but the reason everyone is doing black face is because they’re supposed to signify Santa’s elves covered in soot while helping distribute presents... anyways...

I don’t have an issue with kids walking around in elf costumes with smudges of black paint on the face, that would make more sesense... but for them to encourage Dutch people to walk around singing and dancing on the street in black face to celebrate the hard work of Santa’s elves...

When you question white Dutch people about the harmfulness of the celebration, they scream “ITS OUR CULTURE!!!” But it’s so funny how the Zwarte Piet costume...

...looks EXACTLY like the racist cartoons white people used to entertain children and sell soap amongst other things...

And let’s not forget the Netherlands coloniser past, cause they’re just as bad as England no matter how diverse and progressive they want to believe the Netherlands is now...

I witnessed my first Zwarte Piet parade for kids 5 years ago cause it was in my godmothers neighbourhood... the anger in me was so crazy cause if Dutch people were willing to compromise and not not parade around in black face the entire day they could still celebrate they’re wack ass holiday... but they know EXACTLY what they’re doing...

He was an activist who inspired millions to fight for their rights. He knew what was wrong with our country and risked his life to help his people achieve equality.  In the society where black were treated like animal he did everything possible to change this.
