ARGUMENTATION AND DEBATE

Randomly stumbled an FB reel which presented one trick on how to save on college books. Josh, the guy in the video, gave the solution of typing 'bookname:pdf' in a search engine.

Inspired by the recent win of ADMU's debate team in the world tournament, I was in the mood for reads on anything argumentation and debate. So I tried Josh's suggestion, typed 'argumentation and debate:pdf' in Google and voila, here are screenshots of the 3 pdfs I got from the search results:

Now, off to reading! To Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche and the rest of the gang, I'm coming for you! 😆😅

NOEL ELICANA'S ENLIGHTENMENT

They say save the best for last.

Our whole day tax affair ended with art. Like an oasis in a desert, this grand masterpiece of Noel Elicana, nestled on a wall at the busy Iloilo City Hall's main lobby, soulfully nourished our weary bodies.

THE BOY, THE MOLE, THE FOX AND THE HORSE

Since the time Charlie Mackesy's ink drawings trended a couple of years ago, I've been a fan. His illustrations of a boy, a mole, a fox and a horse in pen and watercolors are truly alluring which at times, makes one wish they are real.

To add more to the charm, he released a children's book based on those characters and my, the words he crafted for the story never fail to strike a chord every time one reads them. Now, what do you think one felt upon learning that the book had been adapted into a film? Thrilled, of course! It's a must-watch for those who'd like to carry on with their high spirits but moreso, for those who need a heap of good ol' pick-me-ups. Overall, it's like a big, warm, animated hug made for all. Streaming now on Apple TV so go watch.

In case you need more convincing, here are some golden nuggets of wisdom from the adaptation:

• Isn't it odd, we can only see our outsides, but nearly everything happens on the inside?

• Imagine how we'd be if we were less afraid. Most of the old moles I know wish they'd listened less to their fears and more to their dreams.

THE DARJEELING LIMITED

This was an unfinished watch of 2022.

Yep, not a believer of doing or finishing activities prior to a new year.

However, I wanted something creative or mental to see / listen / do on the first day of the year and remembered this film, hanging and begging off to be finished, on Disney+. Honestly, the movie was a drag to watch and not the best of Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel was way better and I highly suggest you go see it). Curiosity was what made me get through the whole film and oh, the soundtrack, too.

There was one scene, though, with a few good lines that I'd like to share 'cause I find it apt as we face the next 365 days of 2023. Here it is:

"Alright, let's make an agreement.

A: We'll get an early start tomorrow morning and try to enjoy each other's company in this beautiful place.

B: We'll stop feeling sorry for ourselves. It's not very attractive.

C: We'll make our plans for the future. Can we agree to that?
