@zabrefang
you don't even have a dog
maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.

there's so much crazy shit once you go down the rabbit hole. for example, BMI was not invented by anyone with a medical background. it was never meant to measure individual health.

just gonna reblog this forever because i love fat people and we deserve fuckin basic human dignity and respect regardless of our weight
"What x are you?" quizzes are a gift actually because people, like cats, actually do like being in boxes as long as it's their choice, there are zero consequences for being in the box, and they can leave the box any time they want. Just sitting in a box that says Mint Chocolate Chip.
in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Minersā Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to āencourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community [ā¦] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.ā
hi!! sorry if you've been asked this question before, but as someone who wants to be a lawyer, how do you deal with defending people that morally you really don't agree with? thanks!
I get a lot of versions of this question, and I answer it seriously every time, because itās both important and not important at all. Anyone who asks respectfully gets my whole ass answer.
Itās just not really about that. My job isnāt about defending the idea of hurting someone else. Itās about stopping the state from inflicting further hurt, torture, pain. Itās about pushing back for some fairness against a monumentally stacked system. And itās about stuff thatās normal human stuff that counts as crime for some reason.
Yeah, itās hard to do a sex abuse case. Sometimes the images stick around and it bothers me. But honestly? Mostly those cases have real plausible theories of innocence or theyāre cases that I will lose because the evidence is there, and the question is not whether the perpetrator will go to jail but how long.
Those cases are so rare, though. I get so much pointless bullshit. Felony of a teen taking momās car without permission. Two kids that try to break into a car and get so scared by the alarm that they run away. Trespassing on dadās house because his new girlfriend wants you to stop coming around. Itās just human stuff, and the violence of the state is not necessary or helpful.
I also reject the idea of punishment completely. The state has a responsibility to stop people from hurting other people again. But inflicting pain doesnāt do it, we know this by now. So I argue for mercy and for real solutions to real problems. Iām here to build a future, not get caught up with doing violence to someone because of the past.
So yeah, sometimes itās hard, but mostly my conscience is dead clear: Iām not responsible for the crime. The damage has been done. I want to start the healing process, and I want it for everyone involved. When thatās not possible, I just want to tell the authorities they donāt get to just Do What They Want.
The more I do this job, the more I am a genuine pacifist who is against violence in all forms, and actually I donāt see a contradiction between that and what I do for a living. State violence is a pervasive evil that tears apart families, communities, and countries, and itās far more damaging and awful than any individual crime. The average prosecutor has more blood on their hands than a serial killer, but itās invisible: people who died in jail, who froze to death on the street, who were shot in a drug deal. Their violence begets violence.
When I get blood on my hands, itās because I put my hands over the wounds and try to stop the flow. Iām okay with it.
Also: people donāt ask doctors how they can stand to treat bad people. Why ask me?
#i find people have such an inherent misunderstanding of the roles of defense attorneys (understandably but still)#in that most people i talk to seem to be envisioning me personally defending the right of people to commit crimes or that like. Crime Is#Good Actually#āyeah this person did X but they should never face any consequences ever please and thank you judgeā#(and people think this would WORK??? a different tangent on a lack of legal education and cop shows being awful etc)#meanwhile i am simply protecting peopleās rights. yes even those peopleās#idk i could write my own post but op Gets It and also a prosecutor just filed the DUMBEST motion ive ever seen and i need to respond to that#instead lmao (via @anixit26)
The number of people who respond to my post about how even the guiltiest person in the world deserves rights with "but not [crime I think makes you undeserving of rights]!" is truly insane. People really truly think that being accused of a crime makes you irredeemably evil and protecting the rights of those accused means you are also evil.
The “criminal justice reform” movement is in danger. Efforts to change the punishment bureaucracy are at risk of being co-opted
so, i noticed that in āsinners,ā remmick is portrayed as playing a banjo when he performs. that piqued my interest because i know somebody, hannah mayree, who runs something called the āBlack banjo reclamation projectā which aims to educate people about the banjoās african origins and history in Black music, accepts donations of banjos to be distributed for free to Black folks who are interested in playing, and offers shows and events oriented toward helping Black people reconnect to their roots through this instrument.
thereās a campout that starts tomorrow, june 4th, and an online study group that starts this weekend, june 6th, and some events and shows this summer that look really fun. thereās also a newsletter for any future events!
looks like i canāt put the link to the website, but itās just the name of the project dot org
I have always loved a good banjo. It's crazy bc it's from Africa, but it always gets a bad rap as a Southern White Hick stereotype. Which, interestingly enough, is probably why they gave it to Remmick. A sort of sign that even in this, he's trying to use Our Music to get Inside to Us. But anyway, somebody shredding on a banjo is š¤š¾š„
I'd actually love to participate in something like that, because I gave up on this guitar š I don't have the memory and focus anymore to teach myself music.
This seems like a great place to plug the full-length documentary about the all-Black old-time string band Carolina Chocolate Drops:
They formed at a Black Banjo Gathering in North Carolina in 2005 and have been a big influence in the revival of Black traditional/string band/old-time/folk music in general but also from the Piedmont region of the Carolinas.
I especially like this documentary because they talk about how you take a style of music that's been whitewashed/repressed and bring it back for a modern audience, while repairing its ties to and honoring the Black ancestors who played it first. The origins of the banjo are a huge part of that and a huge part of the documentary.
Writing tips:
āYou feel the bulge in his pantsā - implies that you are feeling some guyās penis, may be sexy depending on context
āYou feel the bugle in his pantsā - implies that this guy has a military horn in his pants, invites confusing questions like why does he have that and how big are his pockets
Both options convey that he's horny
How dare you be funnier than me on my own post
trees are very š„ŗ because sometimes iāll stand under the shade of a tree andĀ look up at it and itāll sway its branches about in the wind and iām like oh my God iām alive and YOUāRE alive. we are alive together and made up of the same starry stuff and standing right next to each other in this moment on this earth. do u feel it when i reach out and press my hand to your trunk? can you hear me? i think youāre so neat. and then the sunlight filters through its leaves just so and that lovely green color leaves me dazzled. itās just very nice to be an alive thing next to a different sort of alive thing

i think its fine to have limited tastes in media if you understand your limitations. like i wont shame someone if they only watch cartoons because thats their choice but i also dont think you can go making hot takes about the horror genre if the scariest thing youve watched this decade was the owl house finale. that seems ill advised.
