“We’re going to be okay, aren’t we?” It’s pathetic how scared he sounds in his own ears. When they left home for this trip he thought it would be full of family bonding not running away from genetic experiments. But at least Zach was there with him, As long as she was with him it would be okay. “We’re not telling mom anything about this.” He was trying to lighten the mood with a joke as she gave her hand a soft squeeze.
“Hey — of course we are.” Zach gives Grey’s hand a tight squeeze, returning the smile. Hell, maybe it really had been a bad idea to bring the kid back here. She’d hoped that bringing Grey here would help ease the bad memories associated with it, dilute them with POSITIVE ones, but obviously all she’s done was make him more nervous.
