𝙷𝙴 𝙸𝚂 𝙽𝙾𝚃 𝙰 𝙶𝙾𝙾𝙳 𝙼𝙰𝙽 , he’s accepted this. digging at the drywall of memory, there is little to discern but 𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 / 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 / 𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐑. but she still tries to sift through him for something worth salvaging. so far from the war, the charming casanova he used to be, coy simper cast aside for 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚗𝚎𝚠 𝚏𝚒𝚜𝚝 𝚘𝚏 𝚑𝚢𝚍𝚛𝚊. he is now too corrupted to use for anything. he rehearses in mirrors 〈 before he breaks them 〉, slate stare devoid of light: when to breathe / when to fight / when to flee. survival was taught with bruised knees &. broken bones, conditioned to 𝙲𝙾𝙼𝙿𝙻𝚈 before the crossfire.
he worries it will bleed through her, this bastardized being. bucky the lone wolf, bucky the killer, bucky the GODDAMN 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐫. seeping through veins he traced within tattered tents &. ruin all he suffered for. selfish, perhaps. but james will not do it again. the truth is he can’t. life has turned its back, dug deep into structural cavities and ripped out vital lining. left him dehumanized with defective organs, heart and mind missing, wired synapses cut. no longer a man, but 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐄𝐑, machine. elénore cannot be his. not again.
