I am glad that you have thus-far had a positive experience with the OW community. That being said, the fact that the OW community as a whole is overall hateful and toxic toward BB is absolutely undeniable.
Notice how you can look at every single video uploaded to the BB Youtube channel & they ALL have unnecessary attacks from OW fans (and/or Borderlands-exclusive fans). I realize that their community is much larger, so the mean people are more likely to show up, but the only reason the mentality exists is because it became a joke within the OW community.
Iâve seen a couple people toss out the âBATTLEBORNâS DEVS CALLED OUT OVERWATCHâ argument, but itâs time to put that invalid claim to rest.
Battleborn posted a GIF of their character that is a literal embodiment of âFriendly Competitionâ -- Toby, the cute little penguin who apologizes when he kills enemies and then gives his rivals words of encouragement -- with the text âCome at me, broâ.
-- The important fact that is ignored, however, is that they IMMEDIATELY REPLIED TO THE POST with a message tagging OW (& others) stating:
âSpring is going to be an EPIC time for the hero-shooter genre! Weâre excited to play @PlayOverwatch @Paragon @GoGigantic & many more!â
THAT IS NOT BULLYING, & IS NOTÂ âCALLING SOMEONE OUTâ
It was a common form of interaction between major companies, and the playful nature was very clearly stated. OW, in turn, also reacted in a friendly manner.
Why OW fans decided it was an attack or a challenge is totally beyond me, and if that Twitter post truly IS the origin of the OW communityâs hatred and disgusting behavior, then the fact that such behavior is coming from a place of total ignorance just makes it all even worse.
The fact of the matter is, virtually every time I mention to someone that âIâve been playing Battlebornâ, I get a snide comment -- and I hear this same exact story from virtually ALL of my BB-playing friends.
âYou mean âthe shitty Overwatchâ?â -- âPeople still play that dead game?â --Â âWhy? Overwatch is so much better!â
Meanwhile, all the BB-players I know who also play OW generally have very normal responses. âYeah, I play OW & like OW, but I usually just have more fun with BBâ <-- This is how people SHOULD react.
Other good replies:Â âOh? Iâve heard of it but never played it!â --Â âIt just didnât catch my attention like OW didâ --Â âI prefer PvP gameplay, so I like OW more!â -- etc.
Putting people down & attacking their interests as an immediate reaction is just obnoxious and, in any other situation, would not be well-received.
Nobody is like âZelda? Why would you play that? Diablo is WAY better!â or âMonster Hunter? More like âshitty Pokemonâ!â -- âPeople still like Sonic? Isnât that a dead franchise?â
It makes sense that a lot of OW players donât like playing BB; theyâre very different games &, if you want PvP gaming, OW is geared more for it. But going out of your way to drag a game (& its fans) thatâs already been hit hard is just totally out of line, and I donât see how a culture like that can possibly be justified.
