Justice found themselves wandering around the manor until a particular room caught their eye – A study of some sorts, with shelves upon shelves filled with books and some with antiques including small statues and trinkets that looked like they’d been decades old, perhaps even more. A record player with a massive collection of vinyl also stood out in the room. Its atmosphere was peaceful and quaint, yet eerie at the same time – As though Justice shouldn’t have been in there.
They walked around the room while examining the objects in awe. Justice hadn’t been much of a collector, but the things were showcased in such a beautiful, yet mysterious way. Who did all of this belong to? What was the purpose of keeping it all in the room? Justice then ran their hands along the array of vinyl. Of the ones they pulled out, it had either been artists they hadn’t recognized, or older musicians such as Billie Holiday and Buddy Holly. With their curiosity getting the best of them, Justice decided to take out a random vinyl and give it a listen. Once taking it off the shelf, it suddenly collapsed and a bunch of records fell onto the floor, creating a loud THUD. “Shit,” Justice muttered under their breath before bending down and trying to clean the mess as fast as they could before someone heard. To their dismay, they heard footsteps approaching and they stood back up, face turning red with embarrassment upon seeing the person standing in the doorway. “I totally didn’t do that,” they scoffed, “Okay, maybe I did, but not on purpose – Although I should’ve. Whoever these belong to has a shitty record collection.”
“i believe you. it must’ve been the ghosts,” zara replies cheekily, winking at the other. she walks over to the pile of vinyls and selects one on the top. “huh. pink floyd. wasn’t expecting that,” she states with a soft chuckle.
hoisting herself on top of the desk in the middle of the room, zara looks at justice thoughtfully. “so,” she begins. “what drew you to come in here?” then, a beat. “also, where have you been? it’s been too long, ju.”

zaranyika “zara” gunda is the 21 year old from new york. when a friend asked them what they thought of the manor they said, ❝ staying at a creepy, once-abandoned old mansion-turned-bnb? why the fuck not? ❞ they claim the shining is their favorite scary movie, and if they were to die in a horror film they would be that character that shouts “who’s there?!” only to get killed less than a minute later. their fears include isolation, drowning, and disappointing people, and they don’t know we know, but… she is desperately trying to move on from an emotionally abusive childhood. hope they enjoy their stay.

As much as Zara likes to put on a brave face, inside, she’s hurting. Her mom is a junkie and left her and her dad when she was 8, and her dad hasn’t been the same since. He’s super controlling and can be emotionally abuse towards her.
Zara has a pretty logical mind, despite her emotions having such a tight grip on her, and she likes to know how things will end before she puts her all into it. She’s scared of the unknown. After her mom left, her dad sorta gave up on all the childhood memories and duties, other than being strict with her and forcing her to only focus on school. The only extracurricular he allowed her to do was student government and debate club. And funnily enough, she ended up really loving them in the end, which is why she is studying Business Management in college. (She’s taking some time off from school, though, and has decided to take one class online at a time.)
Due to her missing out on the childhood aspects of her past, Zara taught herself how to ride a bike. She had learned to forge her father’s name for detention slips and tardy notes. She accepted to not expect her father to show up to any of her basketball games. Zara had learned, at a young age, to not get her hopes up because that only led to disappointment. The only person she could truly trust was herself.
When she was 15 years old, Zara had first learned the word “non-binary” and took comfort in the idea of not having to choose between identifying herself as solely male or female. She’d also always known that she had drifted more towards liking girls than boys, but she’s open to all kinds of love, as well.
Zara, unfortunately, has always second-guessed herself. Being a product of a dead-beat mother and insanely strict father may have something to do with that. She had always toyed with the idea of trying drugs, as she wanted to feel closer to her mother and figure out why she chose them over her family. Zara’s first experimentation with any kind of drug was Xanx, which she bought from the weird drug dealer in her freshman orientation class in college. Her second drug of choice was Adderall, to help her get through her first finals week. Things only kept escalating from there. Her cut-off point, however, was heroin. She promised herself that she’d never shoot up; she liked the high and dulling her feelings...she didn’t want to die, though, and heroin seemed like a death sentence.

Zara met Muse B, C, and D at a college party during her sophomore year of high school. The four were immediately a toxic group obsessed with having fun, numbing any kind of pain, and feeding off of one another’s addiction. Zara felt, for the first time, like she belonged somewhere.
That year, Zara had broken her own promise to herself. Things were really stressful at school and at home. Her father had walked in on her and her “friend” from college making out in her room on winter break. He had immediately kicked the girl out and was now giving Zara the silent treatment (no daughter of mine will ever be a d*ke). The group had decided to go to a party, and there, Zara had convinced Muse D to try heroin with her. The feeling was like no other, and she fell asleep feeling like she was floating on clouds. When she had woken up in the morning, she groggily rolled over to poke Muse D awake, but he would never wake up.
Ever since that day, Zara has carried the guilt of being the one that, essentially in her eyes, caused Muse D’s death. It took her a long time to be serious about her sobriety, but with help from Muse B, she went one week without drugs, and then one month, and so on.
