“Lets just say you hired a woman of many unique talents.” She balanced and started up her cycle. “We have one stop before we do a Quickie Mart run.” It was still suppose to be her night off after she dropped him off at his date. Now she had to drag Richard to her gig. When he was securley on she sped off into the night.
It was great to be able to ride again, the speed made her feel like a teen again. She bobbed and weaved through traffic until they reached Blue’s Bar, the nightclub she was playing at. Zariah parked around back and took off her helmet. “Richard, I have a gig tonight. A quick set and then we’re out of here, I promise.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine.” Richard pulled off his helmet and smiled, “This will be the first time I get to see what you do when you aren’t babysitting me.” He made his way toward the bar, “I’m sure it will be interesting. If you don’t mind though, I will be making friends with the bartender. I’ll probably still be there by the time you are done. Take your time though, this is still your night off. Enjoy it.”
He stepped inside and immediately moved to sit at the bar. He made sure to keep to the edge and only spoke to the bartender. He didn’t want to draw too much attention to himself.
“Thanks for understanding, you’re the best!” They parted ways once inside the bar. Zariah made it backstage only to meet her dark haired friend’s glare. “Zari! You’re late!” Tori shoved the guitar case into her hands. “I know, my full time had an emergency.” “It’s starting to feel like your full time is sucking up all your time.“ The bass player, Matt, gotnup from his seat to join the two. Anabi, their silent drummer, following behind. Matt opened his mouth to speak again, but the announcer introducing the band cut him off. “We need to talk after the show.”
The bands 30 minute set went over great with the crowd. They did mostly cover songs and one original song by Zariah, which got them thunderous cheers as they exited the stage. Zariah was buzzing from hyped up crowd. “Guys that was amazing! We were…” She looked back at her bandmates their faces stone cold. “Guys what’s wrong?” “We don’t know how to put this gently Zari, but…” Tori looked down not able to finish. “We’re kicking you out of the band.” Matt interjected without the slightest bit of emotion. “What?! Why?!” Zariah’s eyes grew wide in shock. “You’re always late, you miss every other practice, and you’re not even producing half the amount of songs you used to. Face it Zariah, your head is not in the music. We’ve noticed and decided to drop the dead weight.” With that, Matt packed away his base and left. Tori and Anabi hugged Zariah who was frozen in shock, before whispering apologies and leaving as well. Zariah packed up her guitar, feeling so numb she didn’t realize she had shed a few tears.
