Wait so is slidecasting why sometimes my spell hits even though i tapped to move to one side in order to interrupt my cast?

SOMETIMES I JUMP TO DO IT AND MY CAST STILL GOES OFF

Slidecasting is when you start moving at the very end of the cast. It doesnt interrupt your cast in the last, like, .5 seconds or so of the cast. It is very useful for mobility for casters.

They are NOT getting rid of slidecasting though. They are getting rid of a bug that causes a cast to keep going even if you move at the very beginning of it and wont cancel, under certain circumstances

I can understand getting used to a behavior that typically means an issue with one’s network connection, but if they’ve managed to get positional updates refreshing often enough to prevent this, isn’t that a good thing?

This was a good bug. Much like how Starsiege: Tribes had a good bug that went on to become skiing.

“Slidecasting” (I have never in my four years of FFXIV heard it referred to as such) has, inadvertently and historically, benefitted some casting classes more than others. BLACK MAGES, WHITE MAGES, PUT YOUR HANDS UP. “Hard casting” has always sucked, but in FFXIV – where class design has evolved to embrace buffs like Greased Lightning, Enochian, Blood of the Dragon, etc. and therefore staple MMO encounter design punishes hard casting that much more – there’s been some parity courtesy of this bug. No longer.

(If you’d like to hear opinions on why SMNs and SCHs have it easier, go ask career BRDs how much they enjoyed becoming a hard-casting class courtesy Heavensward’s Wanderer’s Minuet.)

Make no mistake, this is a deliberate balance change that was conveniently easy to handwave BECAUSE it was a bug. They didn’t dare fix it for four years not because of a lack of resources but because that parity has been an essential backbone. The improvements to positional updates don’t quite offset losing “slidecasting,” in my opinion, and this change disproportionally affect players of differing regions based on server proximity and internet connection quality.

TL;DR: Dear EU and rural NA, welcome back to 2.1 era Titan HM.

I used Slidecasting as a Bard, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. The “turret” Bard was still able to slidecast as well. I use to do it all the time to avoid AoE’s, run around, etc…

Updating positions faster is a bonus Sticking it to the Mages and any job with a casting bar, Not so much

Guys im pretty sure this isnt about slidecasting. There was another bug where casting would start and not cancel if you started moving before it or something of the sort. So some people couldnt cancel their casts. Im absolutely sure this isnt slidecasting, calm down and wait for the patch before freaking out, because it probably isn’t slidecasting. I think the english patch notes translated it kind of vague too, im pretty sure I saw someone post translations of some of the other languages’ notes and it was more clear that it wasnt slidecasting

Oh my god  Im sorry but

Can people just Shut up about this mod drama for FIVE MINUTES I feel like I can’t browse my dashboard for a few minutes without running into multiple arguments about it between other people. I’m on here to enjoy content from other FFXIV players and other things, but all ive been getting lately is fucking mod discourse.

It’s starting to get to me and I’m tempted to start unfollowing people temporarily until this whole thing blows over if they keep nonstop posting about this. Doesn’t matter which side of it you are on Nothing against people on either side just holy shit, I can’t take seeing this be the only thing on my dash 24/7.  If I end up having to unfollow people over this, I’ll note them down and refollow once this is over but I just can’t deal with this being most of my dashboard. I’m on here to enjoy myself and get away with problems, not look at other peoples’ discourse. It’s exhausting
