Society views

Why do we feel that it’s important for us to fit society views?  We act according to the status stature society has failed to completely explain.  Focusing on the outlook of our appearance we undermine the actually personality of people. Personally, I am very self-conscious of what I wear. I feel as if I wear the wrong type of clothing society won’t accept me for who I am. Personality is no longer a common trait. We are too focused on who has the biggest butt or the who has the longest hair. Sometimes I am enraged with what society feel is important. We prance around in the most expensive clothing hoping to get a reaction from somebody or anybody. Most people get too cocky and become this illuminated conceited monster that craves attention from any and all things. Then what doesn’t help is the portray in social media. Females are supposed to be “thick” a flat stomach with a large chest and a big behind. The other part of society wants long hair, blue eyes and a size 0. For males they have to be 6 ft , nice smile , 12 pack and romantic. They want males to be living hallmark cards. Social media has a very big part to play in this we mimic what we see on social media. Almost all of us has shared a picture or meme on Facebook. We share these models or as we call them “beautiful people” and say “oh I wish I looked like that “ or “ Can’t wait to look that”. We should we feel threaten to enjoy the skin we are in. Why does society have this gravitational pull that we fail to realize is affecting our growth to better ourselves. Society has implemented a damsel in distress call for us. Because we’re so wrapped up in our appearance and what society feels like we should, people generally overlook the discoloration of society’s Wim. So we frantically find ourselves in imaginative realties and are pushed over the edges of tomorrow. I guess the biggest question comes in play , why do we instantly follow society and its many flaws to create our own lifestyles?

I agree that social media plays a key role in the way people view society and the way society views people. There is a trend that has started and social media exaggerates that trend. If you do not follow the trend, then you are going against the rest of society and that should be okay. We should live in a world of originality and diversity. If everyone tries to be the same, our world would be just plain boring. I feel like so many people follow society because people are afraid to have their own ideas and/or opinions about things because of the fact that society is not always nice.

i honestly dont understand why society is like that to be honest, i feel like the things we see on the internet is what we are going to want for our selves and thats realy bad for us as a community because that means we are going down as a generation. The standards we keep both our male and female partners is completely degrading and wrong because we are no better than them. these standards cause alot of emotional obstacle that people have to overcome and thats not fair to them cause we arnt all perfect so why we ask for perfection.

Over this course...

During this course, I, have learned and gained a great amount of information from Professor Sullivan and classmates. In the beginning, I was a bit afraid of the future of this class and how it would be orchestrated especially with the first words from the professor were somewhat along the lines of “If my skirt does not fly up and you do not see my underwear it’s a good class”. It was that exact moment I was like what have I gotten myself into. After that I kind of felt a little hesitant with really focusing in the class just because I believed the energy of the overall class was distant. It was not until the class started having really intimate and deep conversations within class that I finally started to take interest in class. I am glad I took this course because I have met great people from different backgrounds of life with different lifestyles and somehow it seems we all can still connect no matter what different views we have. Overall, I believe that I have grown and obtained a great deal of valuable things. This course has taught me how to correct myself when citing information, how to be able to decipher between different citation methods, and which are appropriate for certain instances.

Morally this class has given me the greatest gift of all, humility. Since taking this course I have developed many skills but humility is something I feel I have taken the most from this course. Before I believed that discussing your accomplishments and bragging was something that many people should do because you worked hard for the opportunity where you can be successful in that area. With taking this class I have seen different people I have not usually been necessarily close with or had to be close with and actually listening to these people was a blessing. In my eyes, you cannot learn unless you are willing too and are opened to listening to people who you would probably unintentionally brush off without second guessing. The people that I have had the honor listening to and growing an honest connection with are diverse and great people. Some of them might have rather debatable bias when it comes to their “Goat” or greatest of all time basketball player but nevertheless they are still pretty great persons and I would have never had the chance to meet them.

Through the starting and ending  of this class i can honesty say that i have learned alot from the amazing people that i was so lucky to be around and be able to connect with on more than just an educational level that is truly an amazing feeling. The i do agree with you on that and she is pretty funny and honestly made me feel comfortable being in the classroom. i think she is one of the cool teacher that you would have in high school but instead in college and that is kinda rare which is kind of sad.

This week, there were a lot of topics presented that made me think about the perspective I have on it. The strongest advocacy project was the right of clean water. The presenter gave ample examples of how filthy water isn’t good. For example, before we were able to have chlorine clean our pipes and water, the pipes that water would go through used to carry multiple diseases and led, which isn’t good for our bodies. Especially those whom are pregnant or kids. It can kill us. It’s common sense to know that everybody should be able to have access to fresh and clean water but not everybody has the opportunity. The presenter mentioned that we can test the water ourselves with pH paper to see if or water is clean and if it isn’t writing a letter to the government would impact their lives greatly. She gave an example of a city that went through this which was Flint and how the letter of complaints changed a lot. This project was very strong because it informed us that we need to be aware of what may be going into our bodies. Just because we think it’s common sense to m have the right of something that seems so simple doesn’t mean that we actually do. Her project was strong because it informed us of an issue, a solution, and examples, while also keeping us aware of a serious situation that we seem to take for granted everyday. One of the advocacy projects that changed my perspective was how weed should be legalized. I didn’t think so much upon the topic until it was presented. What caught my attention is when the presenter discussed how liquor and cigerettes are sold, and how those products puts us on our “death beds” but a harmless herb, weed, is illegal. The reason for that goes back to racism. To my understanding, it was research that made made the presenter discover that weed became illegal because there was a claim that those who used the drug(predominately African Americans), were going after white women. Now, there isn’t factual evidence for me to assume that this was false information, but even if this were 100% true, what’s really the point of making weed illegal? There is many people who are not of color that commits crime to those of color and they also consume a drug. They might be a cigerette smoker or an alcoholic…but those substances are still very legal. That is what made the topic strong. It’s very interesting that something that I saw as so little, actually holds a more powerful significance.

I honestly learned a lot through the week of the presentation where a lot of people where presenting their project / protest against of something they fight for or believe in, i completely love the fact that through that week we were able to express our self through more than just a piece of paper. the presenter for the clean water was actually one of my favorite too because i believe everyone should or be able to at least attain clean water. it was so sad that the little things we have in our daily lives we take for granted and that shouldn't be.

Views of the blogs

As i look back on my blog post this semester, my work has changed by me being able to talk about things that i have read or have done with other people in class rather then just talking about it in class or going home and not thinking about it again. The blogs seemed to me as a way to see ither peoples views on things and compare and contrast other peoples in the class, thoughts to my own. It has changed the way i jusr come home and not talk about the things we did that week. The blog post even let me say what i would like to have said in class but was alittle shy to say out loud.

The blogs can help a person kind of figure out if they would like to continue to have a tumblr because for like my self, i did not have a tumblr before this class, i have none about by seeing the icon alittle but i never really knew what it was about i thought it was a boring app that you could post pictures on, i was not even close to creating my own profile for this app until now and this class has changed my views on Tumblr about what Tumblr is about. It showed me that Tumblr is like a calm facebook, less drama and more about just what you post and no one can dislike what you say.

I might continue working on my opinion on things as far as pointing out what needs to be changed. I am a really nice person so when i have to tell some one what needs to be fixed as a homework assignment, i feel as though im being kind of mean. I need to work on not feeling bad on telling someone what needs to be fixed because it could help what the person is working on rather then hurt the persons feelings.

Bloging has not put an big amount of change in my writing, but that is not a bad thing. It had helped my way of talking about different things in a way that everyone can understand rather then on a essay type fashion. I get to talk about things in a way that is comfortable, it makes writing feel less stressful as what i viewed it before vlogging. Do not get me wrong though, the first few blogs did feel like my usual essay but now its making my view on writing less stressful.

I can honestly agree with you on that the blogs has really changed my views on what tumblr represents and what it can bring to people voices and self expression. Tumblr has definitely became alot easier for me when i post because at first it was just homework for me now its like a totally different ball game for me and i may or may not use tumblr after this. I can honestly say it definitely change my way of thinking and the way i believe i can express myself. Tumblr is a site where people can in a sense believe that they would not be judge or criticize for their way of thinking and thats truly awesome to me.

This week has been a very busy one for me, we just finished up or class project which was kind of interesting honestly. I am so relief that we are done with it though cause honestly it was a hard topic but fun all at the same time. Through out the school semester we have been blogging on our Tumblr account to keep our Tumblr viewer who are reading right now interested in what we have to blog every week. The things we blog about every week are some how always related to what we have been reading or talking about with in the class room. From the starting of me blogging on Tumblr I believe that I have gotten better within my writing and the way I would present it to the audience. From the start of me blogging my writing wasn’t always so direct towards the audience, I would usually space what I have to say and never really be direct with what I have to say. I believe that has definitely improved over the course that we have been blogging. As I was blogging through the semester I realize that I have a couple weaknesses and a couple of strength as all blogger no one really a perfect at this. My weakness is never really being direct toward the audience and I would usually drag what the topic and just never just be to the point of the whole the post. My strength with blogging is that I can keep my audience entertained n whati am say, I feel like that is a strength because if you can’t keep your readers interested then that wouldn’t be good for your blogging.  As I am blogging to my last day within the semester I will continue to improve on my   introduction of a topic, I will improve on the amount of information I provide with the topic that I am discussing. Blogging for this whole semester has honestly improve my writing because the way how I write the starting is completely different from how I write now. I am more informative toward my audience and as a blogger I feel like I connect towards my audience make them feel like we are having a face to face conversation. I feel like that is so important because you make them feel comfortable towards and that’s will just be a starting of a connection

For a  little while my professor has been talking about project three which is where we advocate or protest about a specific topic where we feeling strongly about or at least  have a little interest in.  After you choose a topic  you have to do some research on the topic on which you chose and be able to present to the class. My topic was men being rape and how it affects them mentally. the reason i chose the topic is because i believe that society has popularized female being raped, wait before you over think what i just said let me explain what i mean to say is that woman being raped are more likely to be heard than a man being raped and that to me was just wrong and not fair to the men. through out the week my class mate have started presenting on their protest on which they developed through out their research.  The topic that my class mates chose was clean water, legalizing marijuana  and gun control. The honest truth  is that i like all the presentation that my class mates have presented to me. the reason i liked all of them so far is because i have learned so much about the topic they have presented. The topic i like the most was the clean water presentation the reason i like this topic was because having clean water is very important  to everyone and is also very important to everyone. Another  reason is the way she brought topic up the was very interesting, She came with three signs and with different meaning but all lead up to the topic that she was presenting. The way she approach the topic was very confident and she seem very serious on what she was talking about. She had alot of information to back up what she was saying and was answer the questions she was given very fluently and with enough information to make it clear to her audience. The reason i like this  topic is because i believe we take the littlest things like water for  granted and that is completely not fair. The resources that we have are very important to our survival and thats something we are not seeming to get and one day when it is all gone we will understand how important our resources are and we will definitely regret the decisions we have made

Blog : gender

For a couple our class have been discussing gender and the role it play within out or societies today. I believe this is a very strong topic to discuss because the feedback you may get back from individual may just be bias or non bias base  on how the person view the topic. Their are some many different ways that this topic can be discussed. i believe men and women haven two different roles that are made to do different things so that everything can go smoothly.  Women are made for certain things men cannot do. Men are made to do things women cant do. Have you guys ever heard the saying a woman can do what ever a man can do? I believe that saying is very much  incorrect in so many ways. the reason i say that is because women cant do everything a man can and it goes the same for men too. We were not made to do things that the others can, it will just mess up the whole cycle of things.  That is why we were made individually because we have two different way of getting things done and that's how it should be. Our culture has impacted our way of thinking of things like the way we view which gender role are made to be dominant. i see in our culture men are portrayed as the dominant ones in almost everything and although that is slowly changing its still a pretty big thing. In some culture woman are playing the males in their culture which mean that they play the dominant role in the relationship which makes them own land and so forth. I believe the way our gender roles are portrayed has to be culture influenced. Many of our lives seems to be influenced by the culture we are in and that is crazy to me to be honest. Some things men and woman are compatible on and some thing men and woman  aren't compatible on that to me is okay because it just doesn't seem right. For example you and someone are going out would it feel right if everything you can do or everything you did in your life they did? no right then the same things apply to the gender roles and how we are made to be eqaul but different from one another and that is truly it.

through out all the blogs I have read and reposted I believed that the world hunger should be the one we discuss through out April because it needs the most attention from us. knowing that their are people out their that are starving and unable to eat a meal every night truly is  heart breaking to me. we are one race just because we live in different countries doesn't mean we should lock each other out we need to come together and help each other so we can all live as one and be  growing as people. that is the topic I think needs to be talked about.

World Hunger

World Hunger is an extremely important issue that I believe is not discussed enough in our society. World Hunger and Starvation is an epidemic that is far too often overlooked by people in our country. Hunger is a term which has three meanings (Oxford English Dictionary 1971): the uneasy or painful sensation caused by want of food; craving appetite. Also, the exhausted condition caused by want of food, the want or scarcity of food in a country, and/or a strong desire or craving. In 2013, the world hunger organization reported 6.3 million children under the age of five died, approximately 17,000 children a day in Africa died from starvation. The fact that this epidemic is a social norm and the enormity of innocent children having to go to bed and not have enough to eat every single night and tomorrow not being promised is a heart wrenching and surreal. Poor nutrition is approximately 45% of deaths in adolescents and children who are poorly nourished will suffer five times more illnesses than the average child.

World Hunger does not just affect children it affects adults as well. Worldhunger.org stated that “The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that about 795 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world, or one in nine, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2014-2016.” This implies that one out of every nine people you possibly know are suffering from undernourishment. This is still a very real issue right now in developing countries. Somalia is going through a severe drought right now and it appears that no one is discussing this in any news or media outlet. Over half of their population is still waiting on food and have no water, this is being described as one of the worse famines and droughts they have been in almost a decade. The people of Somalia have not received any governmental assistance or food aid yet and the temperature is only rising.

Just last week the Somalian Prime Minister said that in a weeks’ time one hundred-ten people died from starvation and drought related illnesses just in that week alone. This is a state of emergency and it appears that they are being neglected once again just like in 2011’s famine. As one world, we must look after and out for one another despite that we are on different continents this is the only earth we know of and we are responsible for each other whether we like it or not. So, the next time you suggest that you are “so hungry, starving” just realize how blessed you really are and know it could always be so much worse as compared to developing countries who go without eating for ten days or more.

World hunger to me is a very big issue to me  because people go days without and food and that's just crazy to me I cant even wrap my head around not being able to go days without food and these individuals have no choice but to go a couple days without it.  this post goes to show you how a lot people are taking the food that they for  granted. I am really saddened by the fact that we are not talking about this with in the class rooms and the government not interfering with the fact that people are starving in other countries.

Greed

When talking about world issues, most people will bring up: poverty, world hunger, national debt, governmental corruption etc. But hardly anyone ever brings up the corruption of Wall Street as an issue; that is until recently in the 2017 election, where candidate Bernie Sanders mentioned how he would regulate the financial sector, particularly Wall Street.  When people bring up the economic crash of 2008, do they really know what happened? Does the general public have an understanding of what led millions of Americans to lose their jobs, and homes? Not many do, and that is why financial corruption must be discussed more frequently in class; it has affected our lives dramatically, and most people don’t even know it.

Financial corruption is responsible for the suffering of many people. One example is the recession of 2008. The situation that occurred in 2008 was due to the crash of the housing market in America. There were many factors leading the 2008 financial crisis but the biggest one was CDOs. CDO (Collateralized Debt Obligations) are basically bundles of mortgages that banks sell to investors. These bundles are filled with tens of thousands of mortgages, which people pay off over time with interest. Investors buy these CDOs looking for long term profit over a period of time. Each CDO has a different rating, from the highest AAA, to the lowest B.

CDOs that are A’s or BBB, BB or B, have a high risk of not paying off, because the mortgages they are filled with are risky; this means the home owners are not paying their mortgages. The big banks such as Goldman Sachs, and Lehman Brothers were bribing the rating agencies to give them the ratings they wanted. They knew that if you could bundle many high risk mortgages with high quality mortgages, you could sell them as AAA’s. They were basically lying to the investors. When the housing market crashed in 2008, the widespread unemployment we witnessed was due to the recklessness of the Banks. Almost no one in the world predicted that the housing market would crash, and when it did, all of that money was gone. The amount of free reign the private sector is given is horrifying.  There are also many financial regulations that have to be put in place in order to prevent things like this from happening again. This is why we need to discuss financial corruption more often.

This blog post right here just open my mind by so much. the amount of greed that goes on between investors and banks is truly scary. the amount of people that where homeless and  unemployed is truly horrifying and scary think that this was not being detected. I do agree with you when it comes to discussing these issues within school because we are the old we are the one to make the future but are not being told about the issues that are going on with in the world that we live in which really sad. we are held to expectation that we cannot meet because we are not aware of what's going on.

Black history month is a month to honor all the Africans Americans who helped bring our culture and get recognition for what they did for the African community.Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” which started around 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. He was known for being a African American historian, scholar, teacher, and author. It became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was picked because it had people who had to do with helping African Americans culture to be treated equal. February has birthdays ofFrederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

Some of the pioneers that paved the way for African Americans that are recognized during this month would include Harriet Tubman for the Underground Railroad, Martin Luther king jr ,Gandhi and Rosa parks for their non violent approach to get equality. While Malcom x and the panthers use a violent approach to try and get change and equality. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the MLB. But do you know Ben Carson ? Ben Carson was a neurosurgeon who was most known for being the first separate two combined twins. By him doing this and many other accomplishments, he made a big name for African American doctors In the 1950s. A few holidays that help celebrate the African American culture would include Juneteenth, kwanza and Martin Luther king jr day. Juneteenth is celebrated in June and it is a fun and good time to learn about the African American community. If you are in buffalo during this week and you can go to Martin Luther king jr park and watch dances and learn about the culture. Kwanza takes place the day after Christmas and it’s goes until the new year. This is a time to bring African American families closer together and honor ancient African American cultures and help focus African Americans striving for goals and practice. Martin Luther King jr day is a day to honor a African American man who used a non violent attempt to create change and equality for the African Americans in the 1900s. His life was taken too soon so in order to pay homage to him, he now has a holiday to help with that. this document I have to  say I agree with your point when it comes down to the African American culture. It demonstrate the accomplishment we have made through out the years and what we have contributed to community. through we have been seen as outcast who were forced to work twice as hard in a community that didn't really like us at all.  we have had many  different African American leaders that has made an impact for us whether it was with violence or doing it with peace either way we have over come the obstacles and that were put before us.

many years we have gone through life believing that we were born with a specific gender but what if i told you that your gender may have  been assign to you by doctors. That alone would start me question what else they could be doing to us as newborns. The babies that are born with a male and female's genitals they are called intersect babies. Intersect babies are babies that a born half male and  half female. the doctors take it upon themselves to change the child's gender based on a chart they created back in the 70's. this is basically doing surgery on a new born baby with or without the parents permission. this to me is very disrespectful and inhumane  because this is basically doing surgey on a person who cannot speak up for themselves. i believe a baby who is born intersect should be able to make their own decisions. Doctors use a chart  to determine whether they should be a girl or guy by if the the boy was born with a penis about less than 1 inch will be determined as girl and a girl with a clitoris shorter than 1 cm will live there life as a girl. these are medically unnecessary  intervention because  these will cause future complications for the child  and make life a bit more difficult for the child. Doctors need to understand that intersex babies are regular babies and they should be the one to decide whether or not they should have surgery on  themselves. These babies are what shap our future so whatever negative reaction they get with in there community they will have the ability to change that and be to create a less judgmental future.                 Intersect  isnt all negativity  sometimes it is well need because of the health of the baby maybe in danger. Some babies that are born instersext develop issuse because they are born intersex and surgery is well need. In those cases doctors perform the surgery using the chart to determine whether  or not they should leave the baby  a girl or a boy. their are multiple disorders that can come from being a intersect baby some of these disorders are "Congenital adrenal hyperplasia, in which overproduction of hormones in the adrenal gland causes mas-culinization of the genitals in female infants" this is just one of the symptoms that a intersect baby goes through

My hero

A couple years ago my grandfather had prostate cancer and he got radiation every morning before work, he battled 40 treatments. But recently at the end of August, he was off with this normal activities such as reading the newspaper, remembering events and names. It was happening for a week straight so my grandmother took him to see his doctor. Shortly after I get a phone call while I’m at work saying “They found bleeding in the brain and they will have to operate immediately”. I instantly started balling my eyes out at work and I talked to my boss and he allowed me to leave early. When I got home my mother, my great aunt and I went to the emergency room to go be with him in case anything major was happening that night. They found out later that day he had a cancerous tumor on his right side of his brain that was the size of a golf ball. The doctors operated on him within the next couple of days, shaving half of his head. After a successful surgery, the doctors informed us that he would also need to receive radiation on his brain to make sure they killed all of the cancerous cells. About a month after the brain surgery, we found out he has spots on the spine from the radiation of the prostate cancer.  The doctors knew they would have to operate soon to remove the spots on his spine. After another successful surgery, we needed to start working on his lung cancer. Roswell was hinting on us to move faster with radiation for his lungs because the spots were serious, around stage 3 or 4. So starting in November, he started receiving radiation every couples weeks for 3 hours each time. Last year around this time, he was fixing washer, dryer and refrigerators. He and one of his friends have started a business about 40 years ago and he continued to help build the business up until the last weekend in August last year. He use to be able to do everything and anything he wanted. But since August, he has had to use a walker everywhere he goes or we typically wheel him into places like Roswell. He still has a hard time walking around but we frequently have nurses and physical therapist here, helping him build his strength up, slowly but surely. He is my hero. He did all of this radiation, treatments and surgery for us. I love him more than life, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do or try to do for him. Every time I think life is tough or when something goes wrong, I just think of him and I get the biggest smile on my face. He’s my motivation to succeed in life and he’s my favorite person.

wow, I love how you spoke so strongly about your grandfather. I had got a lot out of this after reading this post. Not only is your grandfather is strong, but you are to. having to go through that amount of pain hearing bad new about someone you love,having to pull yourself together in order to be a good support system. Also seeing a loved one a different way you last saw him can also be heartbreaking. It also showed me that you have a very big heart and that you will go out you way for the one that you love. Nothing but good thoughts came to mind when I read this. You did a very good job writing this, you also picked a good topic.

that post right their was very motivating and touching all at the same time. the way you spoke about your grandfather being your motivation is just incredible to see  and hear. i honestly hope h is doing much better because through that hurt and worry  about what going to happen next really scared you and your family. i think  that all of you who stick by him through his time  of need are strong individuals and also him too for facing all those chemo therapy meeting must have been hard to go and just trying to keep each others hope alive.

 Beyoncé is the epitome of excellence as a black woman who grew up in southern Houston who had a dream and followed it. She has continuously blessed us young women with just a visual pathway to follow. Not everyone has idols or figures to follow, but Beyoncé for a lot of women and men has given us something to aspire to. Yes, she is not perfect even though us as fans tend to overhype her, Beyoncé lives up to her hype and is one of the most vibrant and humble spirits I have ever seen. A lot of people disregard her because her fans tend to really go hard but that just shows how much she has inspired all of us. 

Whether you hate or love Beyoncé there is no way possible you do not know who the Queen is. She is absolutely impeccable. You may not like her or love her but you cannot help but to respect her, she has never portrayed to be more than what she is, she has always given credit when it was due, she has always been humble and expressed humility, and she has never let anyone into her personal business because frankly its nobody’s business. Respect the Queen BEY, for she is phenomenal, graceful, elegant, beautiful, strong, diligent and overall fabulous in every way imaginable. All hail the Queen Bey and remember GOD IS GOD SHE IS NOT!

i do agree with you on this because beyonce is on of a kind and she deserves the crown she is wearing. i really enjoy reading this article because it shows me that you are motivated by the queen herself which is beyonce that i found very moving. i really how in depth you went talking about her being a representation of a black woman. especially the way you talk about her  personality which you said was vibrant  and humble. the hype around beyonce is sometimes over hyped but i can definitely see that she is living up to the hype her fans put towards her.

Making it to college wasn’t easy for me. I attended a high school in the middle of midtown where there was a bunch of stuff going on. It was my senior year and I had to pass my last regents in order to graduate. I’ve never been so scared to take an exam, Global is considered the hardest regents and I failed it twice.  My biggest mistake was letting procrastination get the best of me. When I tell myself that something needs to get done now, that’s how I succeed instead of putting the work aside and not doing it until the last moment. My school scheduled me with mandatory torturing so I could take advantage of all the work I could get because I only had one month to study for it.  Preparing for the exam I never really studied until then and it actually felt good.  I came up with new studying techniques I would put post it notes all over my room so I wouldn’t forget what I studied the night before. Also I would have a teacher everyday ask me a question that had something to do with history. The day finally approached for me to take the exam and I never felt so confident. I put my education first before I partied and all the hard work was about to pay off.

I passed the exam with an 85 and I never felt so overjoyed. Not only did I prove to everyone that I could be successful in anything I put my mind to but also to myself. When I started having faith in myself is when I realized that I was ready for college.  One thing I realized was college is completely different from high school. Professors aren’t going to hold you hand to get work done. The treatment that I was getting from my teachers in high school wasn’t going to happen in college. It was time for me to grow up and be assertive and independent.  Now that I’m in my second semester of college I am now aware of what I have to do in order to be successful and that’s participant, make sure you ask for help when you don’t understand something. And be present in class not only physically but mentally because most professors pay attention to body language. This is just a story I wanted to share with you guys about how I got here and what I plan on doing for the rest of my four years.

i can definitely agree with you on that i have been in your shoes where i failed a regents and had to take it all over again i like the way you expressed yourself within the passage and  how you felt really making the reader feel like they where their with you through  your whole time. i just want to congratulate you on the success of passing the regents. the way how you turned that one success of passing into your motivation  to go forward and not letting anything get in the way of your success is truly inspiring to me.

I’m going to tell a story of the time “I” lost my brother.

I was 16 years old, my mother sent myself and my two younger brothers Marcus and Kahlil to Walmart to get a few things for the house. Now at the time we lived in the walking distance from everything so we slipped on warm clothes and began to walk. Marcus is the youngest sibling I have, and at this time he was around 6 years of age. Growing up, Marcus grew into his own person at an early age. He grew up with four older siblings who all did their own thing, and when we interacted with him we treated him as if he was our age. This caused a great deal of issues because he assumed he was entitled to give his opinion and do his own thing being only 6 years of age. He grew to have this attitude where he felt he no longer had to listen to me; he had all of the answers in his underdeveloped brain. Now don’t get me wrong Marcus is a caring young boy who is respectable, kind, and extremely intelligent(thankful for my mother and father parenting) but when it came to his siblings he rarely listened.

This particular day my mother made me take him to the store with us, and Marcus was having none of the bullshit. As soon as we left the house he takes off down the street I yell after him but he doesn’t stop until he sees aa small dog running in his direction. He makes a quick U-turn and darts back not realizing the leash attached. A small smile plays at my lips and I am content because now he is too scared to leave my side; I won’t have to chase him this time.

I have developed more patience dealing with the little devil. Kahlil however, being a young male at the age of 14 just starting puberty has not and also having none of the bullshit. Everything seemed like it was under control until we entered Walmart. Marcus takes off once again and I make Kahlil chase after him this time while I pick up the things for the house. I don’t have to see them to know what’s going on because I can hear Kahlil yelling “Marcus NO!” ,“Marcus do Not touch that”, “Marcus put that down”,” Come back” I laugh because I can imagine the look of struggle on my brother’s face as he tries to contain the little devil. Fifteen minutes or so go by and I see Kahlil heading toward me without Marcus. The panic doesn’t settle in until I ask him where Marcus and he just now notices he’s gone. I take off down the aisles and I scream his name. This goes on for THIRTEEN MINUTES, but it felt like hours. An older lady with brown hair began to help us look for him and it wasn’t until then did I spot him screaming my name tears running down his face scared out of his mind. I embrace him and hold him so close to me that I almost suffocate him. We return home and tell my mother we lost her baby boy for thirteen minutes, and that day I learned two things; 1. Kahlil can never be trusted to watch after Marcus EVER again and 2. You get blamed for everything that goes wrong being the oldest, even when you did nothing wrong.

first and foremost i will like to congratulate you on the accomplishment of being able to with stand your little brother although he did put you through some troubling  situations. i completely agree with what you said about being responsible for what ever happens to the youngest sibling. i believe you handled the situation very maturely by telling your mother about what happened at the supermarket and  found it very funny when your other brother finally realizes how it was to be you for the short period. i also have a younger brother so i can definitely relate to your situation.

                   “Aint I a woman?” by Sojourner Truth is about a woman who is trying to get equal right for black woman who are just trying to be accepted in the white mans world.  The year was 1851 where salivary was still being seen as the norm for a lot of people. In the essay she uses a lot of rhetorical ways of persuasion which is ethos, logos and pathos. She demonstrated these in the way she spoke about the issues. The point she is trying to make is that as a black woman she isn’t getting treated the way she should be treated like equal.

  Ethos        

            As I was reading the  essay that was written by sojourner truth. The way she spoke to the crowd and the way she spoke about the issues that was happening around her and to her. She expressed her self on stage while was running away from her save owner who captured her and forced her to work for them. I believe that her message about what was going with in her life was very powerful and very moving.

Pathos  

            As a reader I was  emotionally touched by what she said in the essay. The emotions that she must have felt while up their giving her speeches to other people just trying to get her message across to people and still fearing for her life because she was on the run. The tears that must have fallen while telling her kids got taken away from and sold while she stood their helpless. This must have gotten a lot of viewers thinking and also emotional on what’s really going on.

Logos

          Her way of persuading the crowd I found it to be impressive. She started her asking questions to all these woman who were sitting in the crowd.  Speaking about issues  that they themselves were going through. As a woman she wanted to be equaly to the men of the society and paid just the same. The way she persuaded them is by speaking on issues that affected them all which in the end motivated a lot of them.

 The whole meaning behind  “Aint I a woman?” by sojourner truth is because with in a society where men always came first their wasn’t much room for a woman. She founded that very unfair to the woman so she spoke up against in hopes of inspiring other woman so they can stand up for their right no matter the skin color they have.
