The effects of Jayce becoming a councilor

He hadn't realised he had fallen asleep like that, until he was woken by a soft voice calling his name and he blinked his eyes open to see Jayce.

Viktor winced at the light Jayce had presumably switched on– he hadn't realised it had been that late– but the way his entire body was sore and ached indicated that it had been hours at the least. Fuck everything hurt.

Jayce picked the notebook to place it to the side and shook his head. “I've told you you shouldn't work this much. You fell asleep here?” It was a rhetorical question, so Jayce didn't wait for an answer, but kneeled down in front of Viktor and started unbuckling the brace.

Ah he had fallen asleep with it on too. The places around the straps were sore as a result, especially around his thigh since he had been sitting for hours. A sigh of relief escaped Viktor as Jayce removed the brace, and Jayce wordlessly began massaging around his calf and made his way up to his knees and thigh where it had pressed more.

The progress day gets worse than Viktor could have imagined

“I can’t believe that,” Jayce said under his breath as they found a quiet corner to stand. “She was just–”

“–Insulting me–”

“–Flirting with you.”

They stared at each other in complete silence for a long moment.

“Viktor–”

“What? What are you even talking about? She wasn’t–” Viktor made a face at the mere thought. Oh gods he could not have heard him right.

Viktor didn't startle when he felt a hand settle on his back since he knew who it would be and instinctively turned his head towards Jayce coming to stand next to him.

Jayce brought up a hand to Alistair in greeting. “Hello, I'm Jayce Talis, Viktor's partner.”

Viktor's heart stuttered and raced in his chest. He had been introduced as Jayce's partner so many times that he had gotten somewhat used to the sudden burst of warmth in his chest every time, but Jayce introducing himself as Viktor's partner sounded even more like he meant something else.

Alistair seemed to think so as well since he looked between them in realisation as he shook Jayce's hand. “Oh I didn't know– That makes sense now that I think about it,” he said with a friendly laugh.

Overworking for progress day takes its toll on Viktor

"–Viktor?” Jayce said, leaning in to catch his eye. As Viktor blinked back to awareness, he continued, “Are you okay? You spaced out for a second there.”

From the worried furrow between Jayce's brows, Viktor had a feeling that he had been trying to get his attention for a while now.

“Sorry I– What were you saying?”

“I was asking how you are feeling.” His frown deepened as looked over Viktor's face. “Are you feeling fine? Should–”

His words cut off as Viktor brought up his hand to rub a gentle thumb over the frown between his brows. He had always wanted to do that when Jayce worried too much and got that endearing frown, and right now he had the excuse of the fever.

Viktor reluctantly goes to the celebration for the Progress Day. It's not all so bad.

Viktor couldn't help the smile on his face as Jayce reached him and dropped down into the seat next to him.

“Do you want to dance?” Jayce asked in lieu of hello, picking up the champagne glass on the table to take a sip.

Viktor's eyes widened, heart tripping in his chest, before he quickly reminded himself that Jayce had danced with many people already and didn't see it as a big deal. It wasn't a big deal.

He shook his head in disbelief. “What? I can't– I don't dance.” He glanced towards the dance floor, at the numerous eyes on them right now as they talked, and just imagining them scrutinising them was too much.

Jayce followed his gaze, and after swirling the champagne in thought, finished it in one gulp and stood up. “Do you want to go outside for sometime? I need some fresh air.”
