it’s important for straight people to come out against homophobia. A lot of us don’t, because of our own homophobia – our fear that, if we align ourselves with queer issues, we’ll be seen as gay. Straight people can help to chance that perception. We have the privilege and visibility and need to use that to our advantage. On the other hand, if we do speak out against homophobia, we run the risk of looking patronizing. I don’t want that either.
