Searching for my niche book fandoms.

I am usually the pickiest person in the world about audiobooks because the person's voice has to be easy to listen to and match the generally superior voices in my head and be lively enough to keep my attention when I usually read twice as fast as a person can speak.

With that in mind, the audiobook of The Angel of the Crows is excellent! This was my third reread but my first time doing the audiobook and narrator Imogen Church did a fantastic job as Doyle. She did a variety of accents which made speakers very clear and I was a great fan of the energy in her performance!

Absolutely no one and nothing needs an IMMEDIATE response unless it’s an emergency or a work related situation (focus modes exist that allow only certain notifications to go through for this purpose)

Getting to a text or notification in 15 minutes versus 2 hours changes absolutely nothing about the outcome of a situation

You forget 80% of what you scrolled through at the end of the day

There’s absolutely no image on Pinterest, no post on Tumblr, no story on Instagram that could be as novel as reading a book you’ve never read and the dopamine release from finishing it and soaking it in

it can literally wait. It’s not the end of the world. Your brain will make it seem that way but it’s not

Phones are built like slot machines (same exact mechanism) so don’t be too hard on yourself

But also consider how much progress you’d make in your goals if you siphoned some of that screen time into whatever goals you’ve had forever

you don’t need to live a no phone lifestyle, it’s about portions

it will feel so fulfilling when it’s under moderation

4 year olds in natpulley novels sometimes manage to say very striking things bc children do say very striking things at the most random of times, but when youre hanging out with 4 years olds most of the time theyre kinda like "hello let's play pretend. heres my stuffy. he got hit by a truck" mixed with a lot of gibberish inbetween.

i love fanfiction because unlike original work the plot and characters are all plotted and characterised for you to use so its a really good solution for those “i want to write but i dont know what to write” moods it lets you focus soley on the craft and its wonderful

The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. a song came on the radio with some very specific lyrics and now you should all know that in my heart, there is some tharsese teenager making high-quality (if in perhaps poor taste) edits of january to "What A Man Gotta Do" by the Jonas Brothers

I love how in almost every adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo" the Abbe's last words are something like "Remember, do not let vengance consume you. Promise me you won't seek revenge. Justice is served by God" or smth like this, while in the book, the literal source material, he just goes "Find the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. Get the money" and then dies.

This book is so unhinged, I can't even. It's pure chaos. Don't let anyone ever convince you that it's sophisticated classic literature. Dumas loved drama, schemes, adventures and dumb ironic humor.

Something about the lack of names in The Angel of the Crows. Something about like, the interaction between being named and being known, the isolation of no one knowing your name, the way too much privacy is loneliness and the way that being unknown makes you easy to dismiss.
