BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2006)
yo mista white someone's at the door
Thinking about it, and I’d like to forward the idea that prejudice against single people (aromantics, asexuals, and also just… anyone who does not have a romantic partner) follows dynamics less like anti-queer bigotry and more akin to anti-fat bigotry.
Fatness, like singlehood, is seen at large as a state of failure. Everybody is supposed to want to be [thin / partnered], and if you are not, that is a personal failure on your part, and you are pathetic and mock-worthy. The popular idea is that of course everybody wants to be [thin / partnered], and everybody is striving towards the goal, and anybody who is not [thin / partnered] is either temporarily inconvenienced on their way to correctness, or has something fundamentally wrong with them. And because [fatness / singlehood] is something that is treated as fixable, if you have not fixed it, then there is something wrong with you—and thus discriminating against you is acceptable, because your [fatness / singlehood] is based on your own bad choices.
The world is, in some cases quite literally, not built for fat or single people. If you are fat or single, the world is much more difficult or expensive to live in, because it is structurally designed for the assumption that you are thin or that you have a partner. The normative Person, after all, is thin and romantically partnered. If you are not thin or not romantically partnered, there is something fundamentally less human about you.
[Fatness / singlehood] is something embarrassing, something worth mocking others over, something that reflects your fundamental unworthiness. Every fictional hero is thin, every fictional happy ending ends with romance. Everyone in your life is either quietly or not-so-quietly worried about you.
And all this is fine and acceptable. Because in the general perception, [fatness / singlehood] is not a real axis of bigotry. It’s a choice! You could just become a different person and stop being [fat / single]! You deserve the mockery, the derision, the attempts to fix you, the world not accommodating you, because you could just become a better person and stop being [fat / single] at any point. So it’s your own fault people treat you badly, really.
I think it’s so funny that utena has literally no idea why anyone in the black rose arc got turned into a duelist. Like imagine someone pulls up in an intricate uniform holding one of your friend’s swords and says “HAHHAHA I GET IT NOW ALL OF MY DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM MY HIGHLY SPECIFIC INSECURITIES CAN BE SOLVED IF I KILL YOUR GIRLFRIEND!!!” and it’s sarah from math class who you only vaguely know
who are u really
it’s so freeing to stop caring about loving the way that you look and finally realizing that it actually doesn’t matter what the fuck you look like and the only thing it changes is the way you’re treated
Yes there are many societal benefits to being conventionally attractive but it shouldn’t be that way and the best way to fight it is to be ugly and proud of being ugly
There is no such thing as makeup (not talking about as an art form) and shaving and other beauty routines “for yourself” and it’s time to realize that corporations and men are the only ones benefitting off of your insecurity

neocities guide - why you should build your own html website
do you miss the charm of the 90s/00s web where sites had actual personality instead of the same minimalistic theme? are you feeling drained by social media and the constant corporate monopoly of your data and time? do you want to be excited about the internet again? try neocities!!
what is neocities?
neocities is a free hosting website that lets you build your own html website from scratch, with total creative control. in their own words: "we are tired of living in an online world where people are isolated from each other on boring, generic social networks that don't let us truly express ourselves. it's time we took back our personalities from these sterilized, lifeless, monetized, data mined, monitored addiction machines and let our creativity flourish again."
why should I make my own website?
web3 has been overtaken by capitalism & conformity. websites that once were meant to be fun online social spaces now exist solely to steal your data and sell you things. it sucks!! building a personal site is a great way to express yourself and take control of your online experience.
what would I even put on a website?
the best part about making your own site is that you can do literally whatever the hell you want! focus on a specific subject or make it a wild collection of all your interests. share your art! make a shrine for one of your interests! post a picture of every bird you see when you step outside! make a collection of your favorite blinkies! the world is your oyster !! here are some cool example sites to inspire you: recently updated neocities sites | it can be fun to just look through these and browse people's content! space bar | local interstellar dive bar creature feature | halloween & monsters big gulp supreme peanutbuttaz | personal site dragodiluna linwood | personal site patho grove | personal site

EDIT: part 2!!
Good time to let y'all know that I have a Neocities Website! It's not much but I'm going to be putting most of my essays and art there as well as here in case Tumblr (somehow) kicks the bucket.
I am going to be making a website! (I planned on it before seeing this post!!)
happy when we're all done here i'll buy you a nice big family size bottle of top shelf lube and i'll tickle your balls till you beg me to stop and even then i won't i just won't do it wednesday
imho i dont like the argument "fat liberation also helps skinny people" cause. it does but, i don't like how the "justification" we have for fat people to fight for basic dignity and rights is centered on skinny people, we can't let our own fight center a catter to non-fat people or we will never get anything done.
Let girls be ugly and strange
"The fatties just want to self-insert" as the romantic lead
Saw a thing on how including a non-thin actress in a major series playing its romantic lead was a ploy by the writers to get money so that "the fatties could self-insert."
"The fatties" are more than 60% of the population. Our love stories constitute the vast majority of actual, real-life love stories. yet the stories we see on TV feature the thinnest 5% of people. Thin people are swimming in self-insert scenarios, far beyond their population representation.
The real question is, why does this much smaller part of the population want to hoard all the fictional love stories for themselves?
It's almost as if the only thing you need to be lovable as thinner is your thinness, while fatter people need to have, like, a personality or be interesting or to not be a terrible person. And some thin people really don't want to have to make the effort to have personalities or be interesting or improve their moral qualities and so don't want fat people competing with them for the default romantic lead on TV.
I see you, thin-privilege-dependent-gremlins 👀 😆

something that would be great for the aspec community would be acknowledgement that allos dont always enjoy a given type of relationship. some alloros never date. some allosexuals dont like sex.
im aroallo and dont like sex because of dysphoria. i would be okay with staying a virgin hypothetically forever. im still allosexual.
amatonormativity is so pervasive that people genuinely dont realise that attraction says nothing about what a person might prefer in relationships. just like how aspecs can still be in relationships, allos sometimes dont like relationships.

women! be difficult! be mean! they’re gonna hate you either way!
i am soooo tired of seeing skinny people i am so over it its so everywhere and everything on tiktok on ads on book covers in movies in tv shows, politics, fucking music even. its endless, infinite, exhausting. isn't there something more than this? this can't be it. like how did i end up in a version of the world where a fat woman being a romantic lead in a mid period drama on Netflix is a win? and how is she still basically the only fat person on that show? how are there films and tv shows praised for diversity that don't have a single fat person in the cast?? how how how HOW. the majority of people in the world aren't even skinny. most people in the world aren't thin white people! its crazy its so fucking insane how colonialism, ableism and racism has created a phantasm in which we all accept that pretending fat people don't exist and punishing them when they do is normal and fine. like, imagining a world where fatphobia doesn't exist is actually unimaginable and painful and i truly can't think about it too much without tearing the hair off my entire body
