i made my gf read the first two p.jo books and i managed not to spoil that t.halia comes back. idk how i did it but boy-

sad thalia hours were we think about thalia's fatal flaw being a need for power. think about how she's been powerless her whole life - the circumstances of her birth that led to her being hunted by monsters and abandoned by both of her parents separately, not being able to save jason, being unable to change the system bc she's just a runaway kid. and now think about how the first time she had power in her life was when she chose to die, because she made the choice to go back and save her family. she knew it would cost her her life and in some ways, that's the most powerful thing she's ever done. she makes up for not being able to prevent jason's 'death' by saving her current family. she makes sure her family is safe, off the streets and with some stability, by delivering them to camp. she's never had the opportunity to be in control of her life and now she manages to do it, even if it means her life ends by making that choice.

She comes to an abrupt halt on seeing a god perched outside her cabin, an eyebrow raising high as her arms fold. She’s no stranger to odd requests or even offending gods at refusing them, but something about this one sparks her curiosity. Maybe it’s the way he’s got a sharp object pointed at his teeth or maybe it’s the almost-affection when her calls her sis. Sis - she’s amused each time she remembers she’s got more siblings than she’d like to admit.

“ What’re you doing? If Hermes is out then it must be stupid. ” She can’t keep the intrigue out of her voice, no matter how flat she makes it. Her head even tilts as she asks before she forces it back the other way. “ I draw the line at pissing off more of you. ”

no but talk to me about the happy verse where there’s no prophecy, thalia never turned into a tree and she grew up at camp h-b. she’d be counsellor for cabin 1 automatically and probably has trouble adjusting to trusting to so many people in one place, bc even though she’s always lived in big cities she’s not used to trusting that the people around her aren’t there to screw her over or act suspiciously around her. she has a major soft spot for the younger kids, especially ones with no or shitty parents, and while she knows she’ll never be a parent to them, she makes sure they know they can come to her. her scary face keeps them away at first, but the more she’s at camp, the more she softens up and the more people come to her. she finds her place in camp as a leader but she also learns to relinquish command, especially during capture the flag since she’s not in one of the leading cabins. she goes back and forth between teams, sometimes working with athena and hermes ( for annabeth and luke, of course ) but others she goes against them to test her hand-to-hand skills against luke - they don’t spar against each other usually because they get competitive and end up being separated amidst a huge crowd of campers, with massive grins on their faces. because this place is the closest thing to home she’ll ever have and she never feels like she belongs more than when she’s in her element. and by the time percy reaches camp? she’s developed into a fair and just leader who people admire, often acting as Chiron’s second-in-command and welcoming campers before Mr D can scare them.
