Shimmer really did make Amy Clex-coded, huh? Between her stalker behavior mirroring Clark, her obsessive shrine mirroring where Lex was slowly heading toward, and her comments about Victoria paralleling Clark's. Then, Lex telling Jeff 'that kind of love could get me arrested'; he was refering to her age, but, in a year where sodomy was still illegal in Kansas, and used to target same-sex couples far higher than het couples, in a show where age gaps and sexual creepery between het couples are hand-waved away, it definitely has a bigger meaning. I will not be convinced that Lex didn't look up Kansas' laws regarding age of consent and sodomy (which is not just anal, but technically anything beyond 'traditional sex', i.e. penis-in-vagina sex) shortly after Clark breathed life back into his lungs.
The reasons he can't be with Amy, are the same reasons he can't be with Clark. The jealousy Amy shows concerning Victoria, is mirrored by Clark prodding Lex about why he's with her. Both Jeff and Clark actively try to get Victoria out of Lex’s life. Jeff, by scaring her away, Clark by pointing out to Lex that she's spying on him.
It's just layers of Clex woven so sneakily into the whole episode and I love it!
Clarkkkk your jealousy is not subtle babe. This is the face of a man who just realized *why* you care so much about his “girlfriend”.
Between this, his 'how close are you gonna keep her?' when Lex introduced them, and his complete unphased-ness of having seen a naked woman for what was probably the first time (outside of whatever porn he and Pete may have stumbled across), it's just so much to unpack. And I'm so convinced Amy is a mirror of Clark, but like, a fun-house mirror, cause she actually goes further in her obsessive/stalkery behavior by making a shrine. Which, kinda makes her a mirror of Lex, too, I guess?

and like. lionel would be all OVER lex and clark getting together, oh my GOD he already wants clark as both a pawn/thing to dissect and as a son, and he would LOVE making sure they get together and then setting them against each other once their lives are intertwined enough that clark cant easily leave, getting them to vie for power at each others expense, getting to pick which son he favors at any given moment, working insidiously to get clark using all that power for HIS ends and HIS means. he would be like "this is great, its basically adoption with different steps"

My thing with Smallville is that I do think Clark deserves to keep his secret and only tell it when he feels comfortable and Lex (and later Lana) are being unresonable by demanding it from him.
But also I think it gets muddled with the fact that a) they don't know Clark's secret and "why is this city lowkey hell" are connected at first and they don't own Clark to not try to figure out why 30 people died in 5 months and both Lex and Lana in particular where kidnapped at least 10 times by the freak of the weak and b) Clark is such a bad liar, is so funny, but also it would drive everyone around him insane that he is doing supernatural shit in front of them and going "what? you must be hallucinating or something" like baby, sweetheart, I love you and you are trying your best but please lie a tiny bit better (?)
That's to say half of Clark early struggles would be solved if he learned how to actually lie. Lana life would genuinely have been better if she moved to Metropolis when she had the change and Lex needs a non-evil therapist and to not choose a random teen as his only support system and proceed to be shocked said teen is not able to handle a heavily traumatized twenty yo w at least 5 undiagnosed disorders and a cartoonly evil dad.
