read about a million the long walk fanfics (after watching the movie/in preparation for trying to write my own) and getting so blown away by the constant mischaracterization of these guys that i felt like i just had to write a fic of my own with the messiest plot imaginable to really get these queers right. as right as i can try and do, because i love psychoanalyzing and something about multi pov is just…i HAVE to do it myself.

like, i want ray garraty who isnt just a sweet, gushy, passive and weak and defenseless twink who’s practically a toddler that needs to be babied by pete at every other corner. i want ray garraty whos a grown ass man—sweet, yes, absolutely, loyal and kind—but he can get angry sometimes. he can lash out. he can stand up for himself. his life doesnt revolve around being nice to anyone and everyone at all times (oh, and he has a life outside of pete).

i want collie parker who isnt this angry, violent, hotheaded punk who gets into fistfights. hes an “acab” kind of dude, and he says fuck a lot, but hes not brooding and full of rage and mysterious. he loves his friends, he loves his life regardless of how hard it is—hes a good friend, and hes too level headed for his first instinct to be fighting. hes just a teenage boy. (and btw, being indigenous isnt his whole personality. cant believe i have to say that.)

i want gary barkovitch who isnt just a spawn of satan and isnt just a “sweet poor little cinnamon roll baby who hasnt done anything wrong.” i want gary barkovitch whos his own worst enemy. a whore for attention but hes too loud, too clingy, too defensive and angry for people to really like him. is he “trying to be better?” sort of. not really. he doesnt like himself in the slightest, but at the same time, he just wants to be liked. hes desperate for it.

i want art baker who has a goddamn personality beyond being nice. just nice and innocent and nothing else. i want art baker who loves his friends and loves people in general, loves life, but he wont just sit there and take bullshit. hes an adult. kind of. hes not a baby, at the very least. hes very religious, obviously, but thats not his only personality trait and its not an excuse to give him no other characterization beyond just “sweet and pure.”

Or if we wanna get angsty when they start to notice how his powers work everyone starts to walk on eggshells not to be blown up on but they never confront the issue directly so it causes Duke to start overthinking and splitting since he thinks their distancing
