A video teaser for the "KREAtive Perspectives" exhibition by Korea Foundation

On July 20, the KF and the Ukrainian Embassy in Korea jointly launched KREAtive Perspectives, a contemporary photography exhibition at the KF Gallery. The exhibition aims to expand the scope of the two country’s bilateral exchange in the field of visual arts and to broaden their cultural and artistic horizons. We are glad that our connection to the South Korea art scene proceeds!

Currently our video installation The Details of The Great Work is presented within the Korea-Ukraine "Creative Perspectives" Contemporary Photo Exhibition in Seoul, South Korea. Thanks to Sungtae Jung and the KF Gallery for making this show possible! The project is inspired by the processes of revitalization and transformation of the industrial heritage in Ukraine and the fear of change in Ukrainian society. Oscillating between nostalgic (an analog video which is usually a media of family archives) and futuristic media (one best-synthesized voice from the IBM), video installation on behalf of the artificial intelligence from the future tells on the transformation's structure metaphorically using alchemical stages of the Great Work process. "The Details of the Great Work" created within the Detali art-residence in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine in 2019. It is the second part of the "Video 8 Poetry" series, which was started during the KAIR Kosice Artist in Residence in Slovakia. The show in Seoul will be lasting from July, 20th until September, 23rd.

Krolikowski Art takes part in the Сто днів самотності | Виставка сучасних художників exhibition which is dedicated to the 100 days of self-isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are going to present offline the project "Statutum Autonamiae" which was created within the apartment we live in and reflect on the subject of the artist's self-sufficiency and relationships between artist and art market. The opening is today afternoon at 4 pm, please do register via google form (link on the event page).

Our installation "Iconography of Radioactivity" is currently exposed within "The environment of existence. Manifesto 2020" in the Lavra Art Gallery, Kyiv, Ukraine (Lavra lane, 9).

The whole project's aim is to engage the art community to the environment and ecological issues that we have, but hesitate to admit its importance.

Our work is about the human attempt to conquer the nature and to master the unknown. Over the past hundred years, humans have been repeatedly facing to the destructive action of radiation. This is the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, numerous nuclear weapons testing, the Chernobyl accident and Fukushima-1. The peculiarity of the ionising radiation is that it penetrates the matter, accumulates and changes the nature of the matter. Radiation is impossible to feel, but it's hard to hide from it. We intentionally have used the X-rays for creation the series of radiographic images of food that was produced close to the exclusion zone. There are fruits, nuts, mushrooms and vegetables from Polissya. People living near the scene of Chernobyl explosion don't always know whether the food is dangerous, how it was grown. The delicious food may be harmful to the human body.

Combining the syncretic approach and romantic conceptualism, we become the priests of the radioactive temple. After radiographic ceremony we have ate those sacred gifts intended for the Nuclear God.

Some shots from the "Start Over" performance within the Biennale of Contemporary Art Bread at the Народний музей хліба / National museum of bread. Around six years years ago, while we were living in Crimea, in Sevastopol, our mind has been concerned about the cult of war around, and the results of war propaganda. During the past times the subject of war became highly exploited in all the fields of human life, and became cultivated through many monuments and memorials, continue to plant the thoughts about destruction and armed conflict. To re-start the collective memory, we make the ritual with goal of the cleaning mind from the cult of war, following the European alchemical tradition. Visitors become witnesses how the past images of pain and death are dissolving and disappearing.

Photo documentation of the Start Over performance in Lysychansk within Фестиваль "З країни в Україну". The performance called "Start Over", and the idea is to erase the traces of Soviet cult of war and death from our memory. While we had been living in Sevastopol, Crimea, we were shooting on the film using double exposure technique: on the first layer we took the military equipment that was used in the Crimean Wars in the 19-20 centuries, and the graves of soldiers killed during these wars on the next layer. In this performance we follow the mythologem of "dead" water for the healing and recovery the wounds of the past, and "alive" water for a new and peaceful life. This is the ritual performance with the goal to clean collective memory and mind from the bloody memories and artificial cult of war and death on a battle field. Ph. Iryna Dorofeeva

During the last two weeks, we have been living at the art residence organized by Asortymentna Kimnata in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. We came up with the idea to work on the analog video project, and we created a two-channel video installation "Video 8 Poetry: The Details of the Great Work". The installation had been presented within the Detali project, the well-knowm electronic music and contemporary arts festival on the west of Ukraine. Inspired by the increasing wave of revitalizing processes in Ivano-Frankivsk, we dedicated our work to the structure of transformative process. The making of video was held mostly at an abandoned industrial location, in the old Soviet laboratory.

The project concept: Lesya Ukrainka was one of Ukraine's best-known poets and writers and the foremost woman writer in Ukrainian literature. She also was a political, civil, and feminist activist and the first bisexual Ukrainian star. Intimate correspondence of Lesia Ukrainka and Olga Kobylyanska is the pearl of the world lesbian lyrics. Lovers created their own symbolic language based on the traditions of modernism of the early 20th century. "Someone loves somebody", that's what Lesya wrote Olha in every letter, and else "Someone only make passes very, very gently and have nothing to say..." Design based on the art-project "2-BI Lesya" by Krolikowski Art (released 1.11.15 on Lesya Art Residence, Lesya Ukrainka Theatre, Lviv Ukraine)
