"Are you here to aid me in my ongoing project ? If not, please leave."
some recent flightrising art :3c
Hello :) me remember I like Flight Rising... Look at my girl !
He made a friend.
Also my progens are both Fiona's Finest Friend.
He made a friend.
Show me your dragons with Enhancement apparel! I cannot get them to match with other apparel for the life of me gshshdj
Here's Etalli. Maybe having it match a circuit tert is cheating.
Tripp still has a very expressive crest and big ol' eyes like a Fae, and Jewel still holds her crest very rigid like a Mirror and feels unprotected without a skull mask
dragons that are very epic and iconic (to me)
if you have ever seen any of these guys' mugs and/or had a sensible chuckle about them you may be entitled to financial compensation(?
shamelessly inspired by @kc-rising's post which got me thinking about dragons from my lair that are always rotating around my mind rotisserie-chicken style lol.
all in all just a reason to share the blorbos and some deep underrated classics (to me)
Twelve dragons
Trying to balance my favourites and the ones with the most likes to find the most iconic twelve dragons in my lair.
Be impressed by my self-control in only having half of them be fae.
*greets Shramp as I'm curious about the shrimplications*
"Ah hello! you must be from Paladin publishing right?" She smiles as she moves to the desk in the large room. There is a tall stack of notebooks to one side of it. They rise up from the floor and tower over everything else. Every other surface seems to be covered in fish tanks with shrimp in them. "You'll be pleased to know I'm finishing up the final chapters of Revenge of The Baron! I know Baron VonScampi was such a beloved character by everyone that the new series brings him back through the dark rituals of the shade swarm." She motions to the tower of notebooks as she continues. "I've painstakingly followed the lineages of every shrimp who's a character here so assure that there are no issues with the forbidden romance between Prawnathan and Krillian VonScampi, heiress to the VonScampi fortune."
Its like a light goes off as a realization hits the guardian. "Oh gosh it must have been a long journey from Psonizo there. How about I go get some refreshments and a meal while you sit and watch the shrimp. don't let them get into the filters now."
Shramp is an author of a book series detailing the thrilling intrigue of the many troupes of shrimp that are her charge. think warrior cats but shrimp
Incredible. 10/10, fan of Shramp's books for life.
"A recording of a baby fae's first moments, drawn by his mother."
I love him so much, I hatched him this morning and he's my BABY he's my LITTLE GUY and I LOVE HIM so much he's so pretty. I would die for him.
As of currently, he doesn't have a name. But I'm taking suggestions!
You can meet The Newest Son here !
Want to be the first to know when new Flight Rising art is out? Why not subscribe to The Dunes' Muse ? They get pinged first when new art comes out!
If you like my art, and would like to support me so I can keep drawing these funky dragons, check out my commissions ! Thanks!
This is Fausto, he works doing gondola tours to other dragons interested in it! For extra tip he can offer his singing for those who wants a relaxing trip
My lair warden, thoroughly overtaken by the pink chalcedony and supposedly (once?) a guardian - Kasai!
the pillar of the world is so big it's kind of scary: a rushed compilation
in a better world I Actually calculated the real Actual pillar visibility zone for this post but we don't have literally any solid numbers required for this exercise and also I'm not doing all that.
The Pillar and the Behemoth both lead to some questions about the size of Sornieth. And mostly imply that the landmass we see on the map would be surprisingly small.
I'm going to try to do some napkin math here. To calculate from how far away something might be visible we just want to draw a line from the top of the object to the surface of the planet. So with the pythagorean equation we can calculate that if you're at sea level then (planet's radius)² + (maximum distance between observer and object)² = (planet's radius + height of object)² ie r² + d² = (r+h)²
Simplifying that for distance we get d = √(2rh+h²).
Now, the Observatory is elevated too, so let's also draw a line from it to the surface. Then if we connect those together we get the sightline from the top of the Pillar to the top of the Observatory that just skims over the planet's surface, which should be the maximum viewing distance. Hence our equation is now: d = √(2rh₁+h₁²) + √(2rh₂+h₂²)
(h₁² and h₂² will always be too small to matter, but let's include them anyways.)
Now, I want to plug some big numbers into this, so let's see what we do know about Sornieth. I 'm not going to find the post, but somewhere there's a Q&A stating that the planet is bigger than Earth. Earth's average radius is 6,378km, so let's just say Sornieth's radius is 10000km because that's an easy to use number. Okay, so how tall are the Pillar and the Focal Point where the Observatory sits? Well, Mt Everest is 8.5km tall, so what if I start by claiming that both of these objects are 10km tall, just to get an early upper bound on the distance? Making all the numbers multiples of 10 like this gives d = 894.65, or that you can see one Everest from another on an extra big planet from approximately 900km away.
But how big is 900km? Well, according to calcmaps it's about the size of this line that I drew on Australia:
Why did I use Australia? Because if I overlay this image on the Sornieth map and try to make the line connect the Pillar and the Observatory...
If you can see the Pillar from the Observatory, then Sornieth as we know it is pretty clearly smaller than Australia. And I used numbers that were almost certainly too big, so it's even smaller!

one wishes they looked as good as this snake. good lord.
Something I appreciate about FR is the use of "Breed" as opposed to "Species" for categorizing dragons. Cuz all Modern breeds can interbreed and produce offspring, so they can all be seen as the same WILDLY DIVERGENT species
Then you look at Ancient breeds, and it's like. Just from how they function, it's more like those dragons are eXPLICITLY different species from each other/modern breeds. Like they're all in the "Dragon" Order, but every single one of them is incompatible with each other when it comes to making offspring outside of their own type.
I choose to believe that the dragons just simplify it. Like "Yeah, sure, we could get into the D-P-K-C-O-F-G-S of it, but it's just easier to call them Breeds. Our whole genetic thing is about as well-understood as cat's eyes. It's fine. Gaolers and Tundras are as related as a squirrel and a baleen whale. Don't think about it."
ALSO I choose to believe this is why Breed Change Scrolls are a thing. For Moderns it's just like "Oh we're magically re-arranging some alleles to express different things and essentially turn you into this breed"
But with ANCIENTS It's like "OH BY THE ELEVEN'S MERCY MY CHROMOSOMES ARE CHANGING IN NUMBER AND REGION HELP ME"
There's a futility to Sornieth's biologists when in comes to taxonomy. Because yeah, most things evolved somewhat naturally and have a traceable evolutionary relationship.
But dragons (and a few other things) were created directly by the Eleven and don't necessarily have any relationship to the rest of Sornieth's life. They'd be their own separate domain, alongside maybe the sprites/goblins/nymphs and such?
Dragons existing is about the same as if an alien colony ship had crashed into Sornieth 20000 years ago.
