Chairness - Chairness Project Continuation 2 + 3
In workshop continuation 2 I managed to cut the plastic ridges of the underside of the seat, including the corner of the chair as well as using a hammer and chisel to get rid of extra plastic bits on the legs.
Carrying on from session 2, during this workshop session 3 I started to make the joint part for the chair legs. I made an outline on a thick piece of mdf board of 10x10 cm squares as opposed to 3x3 cm during the experimentation.
Once I had the 4 blocks sanded down and ready to place in the corner joint I realised that the depth of the chair was much greater than anticipated, so I decided to stick the pieces of board together. This enables better support and sturdiness when attaching the plastic legs to the wood.
Whilst waiting for the pieces of wood to dry in the vise, I started to look at the legs. During the experimentations I sanded the legs slightly to make them even at the edge. However this time round I wanted the legs to be a snugger fit so I decided to sand down the edge of the leg at an angle. This ensures a better positioning for the leg since the inside edge is at a gradient (due to the monobloc chair being a mould).
Once dried, I placed the wood in the corner and on the other side outlined where the seat hole was so that the piece of wood isn't seen on the other side. I then used the band saw to cut of the bits as well as a sanding
