How humiliating. Especially for someone like Lohen, who was set to inherit a title.
First, it was bad enough that that sloppy fool Theodore left a paper trail for them to get caught. Second, now he had to sit in and soak in shame, while handcuffed to his superior of all people!
Lohen glances over subtly, peering over to see you reading his case file â sipping the coffee Jean made for you, a miniscule apology for having to basically babysit a fellow knight.
If he had to be frank, what surprised him most was the fact that you agreed to this idea. Who could possibly tolerate sitting inside a stuffy office instead of enjoying the beautiful, sunny day outside?
Lohen quickly snaps out of his very subtle staring when you set your mug down on the coffee table. You hum as you flip through the khaki folder, your face motionless and absolutely undecipherable; what a dread for the would-be "Benevolent Knight".
How would he convince you to spar with him now?!
He had been dreaming of such a moment ever since he saw of your prowess on the battlefield! Each calculating strike, so swift and efficient â yet filled with so many tiny intricasies. The slight flicks of your wrist, how your hands grip your weapon when you change stances... Even watching you maintain it enamoured him down to his very core, the care and attention you gave a simple tool made him ponder what that kind of attention would feel upon his skin.
Would your hands be warm, or cold like the metal of the cuff? Would they be soft, maybe callused or scared from years of training and fighting?
Would you hold him revently, like a small drop of pure sping water on your palm? Or would you push him away, then pull him even closer? (Would he even be able to stomach being pushed away by you?)
"Got yourself in the bit of trouble, hm?" Your voice breaks the heavy silence, both a relief and another weight to his ever-sinking conscience;
He loathed it, how he just couldn't figure out what you were thinking. Every glance, every word you exchanged â Lohen hated this, he hated when he couldn't predict the next move of his prey. The lack of control makes him feel so weak, but it never had his head spinning just as much as it did with you.
Was this what it felt like, to be prey? And of the worst monster of all, no less â Lohen had fallen deep into the clutches of his fellow man.
This was much different from being cornered by the RĂ€cher of Solnari â who was more akin to some demon from the deepest pits of hell â back then the lightheadedness mainly came from the severe blood loss â now he has no reason to feel such a way, or rather there was no excuse for it.
Lohen offers a nod, "It was mostly Theodores work. Real piece of work, that one." He lets his head rest against the back of the couch.
So much for trying to relax his stiff posture (when did he get so rigid?), hearing you huff that small sliver of a laugh had his whole nervous system go for a loop. His eyes widen, two heterochromatic iris' making the slow drag towards your face; and Lohen swears he sees you smile behind your coffee cup.
The gears start turning in Lohens head as he stares at you again. He slowly realises that he won't be needing to ask you for that spar any time soon, as he was already far deeper in â For he agreed to engage in psychological warfare the moment you so readily concured to his punishment.
And now, it was the rabbits turn to lay helpless in a trap.
ăă €ïčQUIN'S NOTE âź gets infected with the lohen plague and dies... okay he may be very cutie lemme get this outta my system >//////<
you find a cutesy idea on social media, the âchapstick challengeâ, where you try on different flavours of chapstick, and your significant other has to figure out what it tastes like by kissing
you thought itâd be a fun, sweet bonding experience, but lohen, being as diligent and as hungry as he is, takes it to another level
proposing the idea was the worst decision ever, he gladly took upon the challenge and told you heâd never miss a single guess. you two sat on the couch, lounging about, taking out the set of chapsticks from your shopping bag. there were 8 flavours in the pack that you bought in some convenience store, all artificial and ridiculously sweet. you made him turn around while you plucked the first one.
as soon as you claimed you were ready, lohen whips his head and pounces on you, grabbing your face in his hands, shutting his eyes closed as his lips crash against yours. he kisses deep, sloppy. his breaths are heavy as he tries to basically merge your lips with his. he roughly smacks, barely leaving room for you to breathe.
the longer he takes to break away, the more he tries to understand the artificial flavour. every millisecond of pulling back is his brain debating the taste, but he doesnât part from your lips for long when he wants to decipher it fast. he tilts his head so he can kiss you better, to take all of your pillowy lips against his to fully grasp the experience, making sure he doesnât miss a hint of the flavour.
when he thinks putting your lips together like a perfect puzzle piece isnât enough, he tugs his teeth on your bottom lip gently, suckling spots for the flavour. his tongue darts out and carefully licks. itâs elaborate, slow, as if heâs saying sorry for bruising your lips for suffocating you in a rough kiss. but heâs really just wiping your lips clean of that chapstick to make a choice for an answer.
once he gets a good idea, he smashes his lips against yours again for a final confirmation. loud, messy smooches fill the room, his lips move against you like he wants to consume you whole. he keeps a firm, but not harmful grip on your face so he can focus, and so you wonât back away before he chooses a response.
when heâs done, a line of saliva connects your mouths together. he flutters his lashes when his lazy bedroom eyes open, gazing down at your lips. lohenâs face is barely inches away from you, feeling his slowed, warm breathing against your skin. he sighs in satisfaction softly before licking your lips free from the spit, breaking the string with a seductive grin. a thumb from one of his hands on your cheek carefully wipes away any remaining saliva, cleaning up his mess.
âmangoâ
youâre in a daze, your lips feel fuzzy and plump, now a little lonely from not feeling him against you. youâre confused when he said a random fruit name. you donât remember talking about a safeword..?
âthe flavour is mango, am i right?â
glancing over at the single chapstick behind your back, you forgot all about the stupid challenge. and the flavour was indeed mango. youâd think itâd be obvious from a 3 second kiss. your man is too competitive. stuttering, you just give him a simple answer that he was right.
god, you realize you have 7 more rounds of thisâŠ
hello mika dearest~ very late but erm, can i request a short kazuha fluff? I dont really have any specific stuff tho, you can write whatever you wanna <33 bet you never thought the day would come when i request fluff instead of angst
(Did i do this correctly đ)
your favorite souvenirs are the stories kazuha brings back from his travels, and they are always worth the waiting you do for him.
⊠info: kazuha returns after a long journey, and tells you a story from his travels that lulls you to sleep.
⊠contents: fluff. not super focused on the interaction, but it's a comforting scenario regardless i hope (wc: 700+)
⊠notes: this is a request from an old event that i never got around to doing three years ago. i always felt bad for not getting around to them, so here i am, writing them years later. that being said, i hope i've done him justice asdfghjk
the hour is late, so much so that you know there is not much of the night left.
you find yourself curled up, waiting, a window cracked to let in the autumn breeze, a soft knit blanket on your lap. the room is quiet, hushed and holding breath, almost as if it too awaits kazuha's return. perhaps it isn't, but the thought comforts you all the same.
you find that you do a lot of waiting for him.
it isn't his fault; you'd never deny his traveler's heart his freedom, or the chance to experience the world and what it has to offer. his soul roams free, and he sees sights you only conceive of in your dreams. simply put, you love him. and so you let him fly, unfettered and unrestrained. you miss him, of course you do, but it was his free spirit that drew you to him in the first place.
you remain tied to where you are, content in the comfort of your roots, the anchor to his sails, a place he can always return to. you have no qualms waiting, no, the time will pass regardless.
and you truly have no need to seek the world beyond, for kazuha's stories are enough to sate any sense of adventure in you. he's a brilliant storyteller; his words make the scene come alive before your eyes, very much like if he took you with him.
and that is precisely how you know of the inazuman archipelago, the maple trees that dot the landscape of ritou island, the sakura blossoms of narukami and the way they drift through the air, the pearlescent sheen of watatsumi island nestled amidst coral. that is how you know of chenyu vale, of huaguang stone forest, of port ormos and so many other wondrous places.
his tales make the waiting worth it, you think, almost on the brink of sleep. the excitement of his return is only ever made sweeter by the stories that dance on his lips.
you hear your front door open through the haze. âiâm home,â he calls out, and your eyes, drifting close, shoot open. you rub the bleariness from them, calling out a greeting in return.
âkazuha!â you shoot to your feet, nearly tripping in your rush to make your way to him. he catches you in his arms, laughing as he leans his head on your blanket-warmed shoulder. the moonlight is the only witness to your reunion as it spills across the room from the window, silver lighting his pale hair.
âcareful.â he murmurs as you part. âwe wouldn't want you to slip and get hurt, would we?â
âoh, i'm fine. i'm just excited.â you respond, in a whisper not unlike his as you lead him by the hand to where you were curled up previously. he takes a seat and you immediately plop your head on his lap, eyes looking at him expectantly. you know he knows what you're waiting for.
âaren't you tired, my dear? iâll tell you all my stories in the morning.â he smiles in amusement, you shake your head, determined even as a yawn escapes you.
âwon't you tell me one now, please?â you plead, in a tone of voice that you know he cannot bring himself to deny. âthink of it like a bedtime story.â
he chuckles softly, airily, much like the wind his senses are so attuned to. âalright, dearest.â he chuckles softly, as his hands find his way to your head, gently stroking your forehead.
âshall i tell you about mondstadt, then?â he asks, looking down at you fondly.
you nod, closing your eyes as you feel his fingers rub nimble circles between your brows.
he begins with starfell valley, and the stone-walled city that rests upon a lake. the people are friendly, and welcoming, he tells you, as he describes everyone he came across. he recounts starsnatch cliff with particular fondness. the wind is crisper there than he's ever felt it be anywhere else, he tells you, as his voice washes over you, soothing you into slumber.
i'm glad he's home, you think as you drift away slowly into sleep while he recalls the scent of cecilias as they dance in the breeze.

Itâs 8 AM at the precinct and the police force is split between those in the know and those who are not supposed to be. Lohen sits with the tiny spattering of detectives forced to recuse themselves, each and every one of them degenerates who spend too much of their free time drinking with bunny girls. Lohenâs not surprised that Varka and a few of the other detectives fall into this pool, but heâs certainly intrigued by the straight-laced woman stuck at the bottom with them.
âNo way,â Lohen says with a snort. âYouâre recused, Eula? I didnât know you had a thing for bunny girls.â
Eulaâs eyes narrow, her fingers typing away at her keyboard. In a cold voice, she answers, âI donât. I just have a friend who works there. Thatâs all.â
âRight,â Lohen replies, his eyes gliding to the picture frame on her desk. âA friend.â
Eula swipes the photo of the brown-haired woman out of Lohenâs sight. She shoots back, âYouâre recused as well. I presume you also have a friend at the cabaret.â
âMmâŠmineâs more than just a friend.â
â...Good for you, then.â
âWant some tips?â Lohen asks snarkily, leaning back against her desk. âI may not look it, but Iâm something of a romantic at heart.â
âI donât need tips,â Eula hisses, her white cheeks turning red.
âBut you said sheâs just your friend.â
âSheâs notâ...youâre just trying to find someone else to wreak havoc on arenât you?â
âHereâs some advice: start off by telling her youâre a lesbian.â
âYouâ!â Eulaâs eyes bulge, her hands forming fists over her keyboard. âLook, sheâs not my friend, sheâs my partner! Are you satisfied?!â
Lohen snickers.
The door to the southern cubicles creaks open, a man with blue-hair and a wicked eyepatch strolling in. He looks at them all with a smirk, like heâs in on one big fat secret that heâd just love to hold over their heads. The man Lohen knows as Senior Detective Kaeya plops down into one of the various swivel chairs, folding his arms behind his head. He rotates from side to side, making the rusty axles go squee, squee, squee every time.
âYou guys want to know, donât you?â he asks, unprompted.
âWeâre recused,â Eula says firmly. âYouâre not supposed to tell us anything, Kaeya.â
âWho cares? Itâs not like anyone here did it. And it really is quite fascinating.â
Lohen huffs, amused. âNot to hang myself or anything, but I was kind of there that night. You know I might be a potential person of interest, right?â
Kaeyaâs eye gleams. âThatâs all the more reason for you to want to know, isnât it? Iâm willing to share. If you beg me enough times.â
âIâm not begging you for anything,â Lohen answers with a laugh. âWe all know you blab when you want to.â
âHmâŠyouâve got a point.â
Squee, squee, squee. Like heâs observing a pack of animals at the zoo, Kaeya continues to stare and smile.
â...Youâre killing me man,â one of the rookies says. âJust spill already.â
âWould Miss Goody-Two Shoes like to leave first?â
Eula crosses her arms. She looks at the photo frame, face-down on her desk, and says nothing.
âAlright then.â Kaeya gives them a toothy grin. âAlbedo and Sucrose got the results on that gas chromatography test. The analysis of the champagne glass the victim drank from.â
The glass was preserved. Someone with a head on their shoulders must have responded to the case. The force is thin right now, so it must have been Sergeant Jean.
âWhatâd it show?â another rookie asks.
Kaeya pops his eyebrows. âDichloromethane. For you newbies, thatâs the kind of compound found in paint strippers and pesticides. Easy to get. Colorless. Incredibly deadly.â
âShit,â rookie number one says. âYou mean itâs a homicide?â
âLooks to be that way.â Kaeya rubs his chin, smirking. âBut weâre struggling to place a suspect. Weâve got a lot of eyewitness interviews ahead of us.â
Lohen frowns. âCameras?â
âHeh. Itâs a business, but itâs not the Mond Bank. The manager handles the security system by herselfâŠseems there was some kind of hardware error that slipped under her nose.â
âRight? But what do I know?â Kaeya shakes his head, smiling. âOne woman can only handle so much, right? Not her fault if the cheap security system doesnât pull its weight. Though I imagine sheâll shell out a pretty penny for a new one, after this whole debacle.â
âHopefully. Rosaria is an incredibly strong woman, butâŠâ Eulaâs hand rests on her photo frame. âShe canât handle it all herself.â
âYep. So weâre just going to round up the usual suspects.â
âHm.â Lohen turns his gaze to the window, arms crossed over his chest. âSeems about right.â
âDude,â Theodore says, white-knuckling the steering wheel. âWhy the hell would you go and do something like that without even talking to me? I thought we had a system!â
âWe do,â Lohen answers. He holds his cellphone in one hand and a black brick-shaped device in his other. âDonât worry. Iâll handle it.â
âYouâre going to be, like, key suspect number one! What if they look into you so far that they end up finding the other things?! What ifâŠwhat if weâre exposed?!â
âCalm down. Theyâre not gonna find anything.â
He taps the directional buttons on the brick, filling the LCD screen with strings of text. Navigating to the right shows a new wall of messages, and after a quick look down the list, he settles on a name.
Allec: Been a while since Iâve seen you, Bunny.
Allec: Iâll pay you double for a date. No touching or anything.
Allec: Iâll pay triple for above the belt.
Allec: 4x for below the belt?
Allec: Fuck, Iâll pay 5x just to see you. Please stop ignoring me.
Allec: Please, Bunny. I miss you.
Allec: You got a new guy or something? Pays more than I do?
Allec: Just fucking answer me.
Allec: You cunt.
âLohen?â
His breath hitches. He feels that grin on his lips again, the one he always gets when bloodlust stirs at him. Theodoreâs used to seeing it, but Lohen wipes it off his face anyway.
âNo worries,â he tells the other man. âI just found the answer to our problems.â
Itâs around noon when you type up a message to send Lohen. Last night, he had asked if you wanted to stay a while, and you accepted his offer. Since everything thatâs happened at the cabaret, you still donât feel right, and the last thing you want is to be alone.
Well, youâre technically alone. But youâre alone in Lohenâs condo. It feels safer than spending your next few days off at home. It eases your paranoia, if even just a little.
Youâre probably just stressed. Maybe a little conflicted. Tohler had done something horrible to you, and something horrible happened to him in turn. Lohenâs insistent that itâs karmic retribution, so you should think of it that way too. Anything to ease the shivers at your spine.
You look down at your message and tap âsendâ.
[You]
Hi, Lohen. Sorry to bug you while youâre working, but would you mind grabbing my mail on your way back? I usually get a few statements on the first of the month.
The grey âreadâ check lights up blue immediately. Itâs probably because heâs on lunch or a break of some kind, but it makes your cheeks tickle when you imagine heâs reading it so fast because itâs from you.
[Lohen]
Donât worry about the statements. Iâve got all that handled.
You blink.
[You]
What do you mean?
[Lohen]
That you donât have to worry about it. I got ya.
[You]
But I have to know how much my bills areâŠ
[Lohen]
No you donât ;)
[You]
Are you saying you paid them for me????
[Lohen]
I told you Iâd take care of you, didnât I?
Awestruck, you drop down onto his couch. Your jaw hangs open as you read his message again and again, ensuring that you havenât misinterpreted his words. A heavy weight feels like it's been taken off your shoulders, but the pressure of reciprocation soon takes its place. What are you, a broke woman with a sea of credit card debt, supposed to do to repay a man who handles your problems so valiantly?
You fiddle with your thumbs as you debate your response.
[You]
Iâve gotta do something for you.
[Lohen]
Nah, itâs all good bun. Just rest up and feel better, yeah?
[You]
Lohen. You canât just pay all my bills and tell me not to do something for you in return.
[You]
I mean, you literally saved my ass. I was scared just thinking about how much interest itâd be this time.
[Lohen]
HmâŠI guess if you really want to do something, you could decorate the condo? Since Iâve got a manâs sense of decorâŠor whatever it was you said lol
[Lohen]
My cardâs on the kitchen table.
[You]
You pay my bills and now youâre giving me your card to spend more of your money????
[Lohen]
Yeah :P Itâd make me happy if I came back and the place looked like itâs ours.
Ours. What a deep meaning that word holds. How intimate it would be, to possess something with someone. How much closer itâd make you feel to him.
Your eyes sweep around the blank walls and undecorated furnishings. You envision a runner at the doorway, a collection of artwork and accent pieces studding the living room. Maybe even some bunny-themed cushions for his couch, that youâll cuddle up to when heâs not home. You could make his space feel alive. Like you and him live here, together.
Youâre smiling before you know it.
[You]
Alright. Just remember you asked for this! ;) <3
[Lohen]
Haha you wonât hear any complaints from me pretty girl <3
When Lohen unlocks his front door, he almost thinks heâs got the wrong house.
Thump!
His eyes take in the soft rugs and hanging portraits, the pretty glass jar that his homemade bubble gum now sits in instead of a random bucket of tupperware. He hears your feet running through the halls, and when your glowing face appears in the corridor, youâre grinning from ear to ear. You laugh as you propel yourself into him, tackling your arms around his neck with a girlish giggle.
His arms immediately encircle you. Against his ear, you say, âYouâre finally back! Iâve been waiting for you!â
Shit, you feel like a warm blanket and smell like his body wash. His heartâs playing jumprope in his chest.
âYou missed me?â he asks with a smile.
âOf course I did.â
You beam at him, your eyes twinkling with mirth. The halls around you sparkle, alive with your influence in his dwelling. Standing with him in the entryway, you look like a pretty housewife whoâs over the moon that her husbandâs come home safely.
To make matters even better, you kiss him. Itâs a soft peck, the kind that makes his heart squeeze for you. Lohenâs laughing before he realizes it, pulling you in close for another one.
âLooks like youâve been busy,â he says. âYou definitely have a better sense of interior design than I do.â
âHey, donât praise me yet. You havenât even seen everything.â You wink at him. âCome on, Iâll show you the living room.â
You grasp his hand, pulling him along behind you like an overexcited puppy pulls at its ownerâs leash. He envisions a sweet blue collar around your neck for only a second, distracting himself from the thought with the texture of your palm.
âDo you like it?â you ask, looking between him and the den. âI even gave your marble a home.â
Heâs not sure how you found a golden stand to perfectly house that old thing, but heâs never been surprised by your strokes of genius. His place looks brand new, and yet, youâve retained the notes of him. Snow globes and metal ornaments and tiny little penguin figuresâall things he likes, influenced by your touch. His eyes drop to the couch, where youâve set a blue bunny cushion on one side and a pink bunny on the other.
âLohen?â
Youâre clutching your wrist, smiling at the ground as you subtly sway from side to side. Heâs taking his phone out and snapping a picture of you before you even realize it.
âHey,â you say, blinking rapidly. âDelete that. I probably look stupid.â
âYou donât look stupid,â he answers, laughing. âI took a pic âcause you look so cute.â
âLet me see,â you grumble.
âYouâre just gonna delete it if I do that.â He smirks, slotting his phone back into his pocket. âThe place looks really good, Bun. I love it.â
You look like youâre caught between wanting to argue about the photo and being touched by his praise. Lifting a finger to your hair, you absentmindedly twirl one of your locks.
âIâm glad you like it,â you say softly.
His heart lurches into his throat. Heatâs soaking through his face as he watches you, and when you turn your eyes back onto him, heâs falling to shambles.
â...Can I take another photo?â he asks.
âNo.â
âAw, come on, Bun! Youâre just so cute!â
âIâm a mess today,â you argue, your eyes trained on the ground. âIf youâre gonna take a picture of me, I want to look pretty for it.â
âOh?â He grins, closing the distance between you. âYou wanna look pretty for the picture or for me?â
Your lips split into a toothy grin. He grabs your hips, gives you a teasing little pull, and you laugh before him. Playfully, he nibbles your earlobe and asks, âWhich one, Bun?â
âFor you,â you giggle. âI always want to look pretty for you, Lohen.â
âYou already do, Bun. Every day, without even trying.â
âNow youâre just flattering me.â
âIâm just being honest.â
He gives you a big kiss, feeling the rumble of your laughter against his mouth. He leans you back, peppers you with sloppy, wet kisses, and feels your fingers curl tightly into his shoulders.
âHey Bun,â he purrs against your skin. âIâm filthy. Wanna take a shower with me?â
âYouâre bold today, huh? I thought it was just last night that you were too nervous to see me naked.â
He smirks. âA lot can happen in a single night.â
Your teeth dig into your grinning lower lip. âI guess thatâs right.â
âWait,â you say, your skin still dewy from the shower, âshouldnât I be doing this to you?â
âNo,â Lohen replies, his head cushioned between your thighs. âThis is my way of saying thank you.â
âYeah, butâ.â Your voice catches, ankles crossing over his back. âBut you paid my bills.â
âMhm,â Lohen says, his mouth closing around your wet clit. âYou decorated. That partâs harder.â
âOh,â you reply, heat rising to your face. Your core throbs when he lets his tongue out, runs it up the length of your quivering cunt. âI-I guess it does take a bit of effortâŠâ
Lohenâs eyes flick up to yours. Fingers curl surely around your thighs, and with an encouraging push, hold them up higher. It gives him more access to you, and with a hot suck of his lips, sends throbs of pleasure even deeper into your core.
You lean your head back, threading your fingers through his hair. Dreamily, you moan, âThat feels good.â
He laughs, tickling your insides. You wince somewhat, a sharp pulse of pleasure dictating your hips to rub into his mouth. His eyes fall shut, those long, curly lashes of his touching one another, and with all the eagerness in the world, Lohen goes at you like heâs starving. His tongue curls into your hole, licks you up and down, provides just enough friction against your twitching clit. He lets out a satisfied sound, and the way it tickles your thighs steals your breath away.
âFuck,â you say, half-whining. âLohen.â
His fingers squeeze into the fat of your thighs. Bringing his teeth out, he gives your nub a grazing investigation. His eyes look up at you, and you squeeze his fistful of hair harder. Seemingly satisfied with this, he moves down to your inner folds, giving you another little rub between his teeth. He switches back to his tongue after, and when he runs it all the way up the length of you, you gasp.
He pulls his mouth away and youâre instantly whining, âLohenâ.â
âOne sec,â he says, reaching over your thigh with a curl of his bicep, bringing his middle finger to his lips. âIs it okay if I finger you?â
Your brain short circuits. All you know is the word yes.
Lohen chuckles. He coats that finger of his with his saliva, and when he descends back onto you, he curls it inside.
âOh, God,â you sputter, your back arching. âWait, wait, thatâs too much.â
He eases the pressure of his tongue against you. The finger inside you doesnât curl so deep.
âOkay,â you say, struggling for breath. âThatâs a bit betâoh.â
Youâre interrupted by your own gasp. Forcing you from your reprieve, Lohenâs finger rubs against a tender spot within you. Almost immediately, his mouth turns light, his finger withdraws, and youâre coming down from that euphoric sensation once again.
âYouâreâŠkind of mean,â you sputter.
Lohen laughs. You expect him to do the same thing againâsoft and slow then hot and hardâbut he instead remains gentle. His finger barely moves in and out of you, his lips just barely touching yours. You catch your breath, and as his teasing goes on longer and longer, you whine, âYouâre really mean!â
He laughs again. Stupid Lohen and his stupid proclivity for mischiefâis edging you really his way of saying thank you?!
âWhat?â Lohen asks, his hot breath setting every nerve ending you have ablaze. âI thought you said it was too much.â
âNow itâs not enough,â you complain, your brows arching. âFuck, just go back to what you were doing before.â
âNot gonna lie,â he answers, âI kinda like how desperate you look right now.â
You whimper. Pressing your eyes shut, your legs tuck around him harder.
âWhy donât you beg?â he asks hotly. âHuh, Princess?â
âFuck,â you moan. âPlease, please, please.â
âAh, yeah,â he replies, lips giving your clit a chaste kiss. âThatta girl.â
âPlease,â you continue to say, clawing his hair harder, digging your leglock into his skin. âLohen, please. Please. Pleaseâ.â
Your voice raises an octave, devolving into sobs and whines as Lohen gives your attention-starved cunt what youâve been begging for. His finger fucks you hard, curling up against your sensitive flesh with each thrust, and with his mouth closed around your clit, he sucks like heâs trying to draw something out of you. Youâre crying, youâre pleading, and youâre rocking your hips into his face until heâs a dripping wet mess and his sheets are ruined. Lohen keeps up the intensity, you crash over the brink again, and with your chin presented to the heavens, you wail for him.
Youâve never felt like this before. No oneâs ever put their mouth on you like this, or even cared about getting you off in the process. When Lohen makes you cum on his finger and devote your prayers to the Gods above, you feel like you might just rise out of your own body, your soul ascending to holy goodness.
âStop, stop, stop,â you realize youâre saying. âLohen, stop it, youâre making meâ.â You yelp. âYouâre making me cum soâhard!â
Fuck, youâve never screamed like this before. Itâs embarrassing.
Lohenâs lips loosen around you. In a soft murmur, he says, âGood job. Really good job, pretty girl.â
Your chestâs heaving up and down. Your breath shudders and shakes, and with tears filling your eyes, you gaze up at his ceiling. Lohen gently loosens your grip on his hair, and the mattress dips around you as he climbs your way. When those red-blue eyes meet yours, a hot trail of tears roll down your cheeks.
âOh shit,â he says, chuckling. Cupping your face, he kisses your cheek with his wet lips, purring, âI didnât mean to make you cry, Bun.â
Your nails dig into his shoulders. When he kisses your jaw again, you feel the poke of something hard against you.
You lick your lips and swallow. Now would be the perfect timeâyouâre at the peak of your affections for him, heâs clearly over the moon for you, and youâve been wanting it, havenât you?
But your lips wonât move. The words wonât come out.
âI made such a mess out of you,â Lohen says with a laugh. âSorry, Bun. Can I kiss you, orâŠ?â
âYes,â you say. âOf course you can.â
When he catches your lips in a loving kiss, you have lingering doubts at the back of your mind. The bugling fabric of Lohenâs briefs brushes against you, but he doesnât ask to fuck you. Heâs probably waiting for you to tell him, so he knows itâs okay.
Because his love for you is pure. He treats you far better than any man youâve ever met.
âEh?â Lohen says. âYouâre still crying.â
You blink rapidly. He brushes your tears away, smiling at you. As you stare at each other, an unsaid question hangs in the air.
Lohen breaks the silence first. âWe should clean up again.â
You smile gratefully and nod.
The next morning, youâre making breakfast for Lohen while heâs getting ready for work. He comes up behind you, smelling like woodsy cologne, and wraps those sturdy arms around your waist. He kisses your ear, and you giggle.
âGood morning, beautiful,â he says.
âGood morning, handsome,â you quip back. âDressed and ready, are you?â
âWish I wasnât,â he says. âNot when you wake me up looking like this.â
Youâre cheeky about it, wiggling your hips. All youâre wearing is the cute apron you picked up during your decor run the day prior, over top of your underwear. You figured you may as well walk around the place like itâs home, especially when you know he wonât mind.
Lips closed, Lohen chuckles. Quietly, he says, âI really like seeing you first thing in the morning.â
Your face tickles with warmth. Smiling from ear-to-ear, you nod.
âHey, Bun,â he says slowly. âWhy donât you justâŠstay with me?â
âHm? I donât go back to work until Thursday, so Iâll be here today.â
âNo, I meanâŠpast Thursday.â His grip on you tightens. âIf you stay with meâŠI promise Iâll take care of you. You wonât even have to work at the club anymore. You could justâŠdo what you want. And live here. With me.â
You flash him a smile. âYouâre joking.â
He doesnât smile back. Your eyes widen, and all of a sudden, your throatâs so tight, you feel like youâve got a collar around it.
You turn back to the stove, looking at the bunny-shaped eggs frying away in their metal stencils. The yolks jiggle in the center, the whites bubbling around the edges.
âOkay,â Lohen says eventually, his mirthful tone returning. âI get it. Youâre an independent woman, arenât you?â
Your tense shoulders fall slack. Laughing, you reply, âYeahâŠsomething like that.â
âThatâs alright. I respect it, Bunny.â His breath is a whisper into your ear. âI wonât stop asking, though.â
He gives you a quick peck. You shiver.
âI gotta run,â he says, pulling away and leaving you cold in his absence. âIf you need anything, just call me, okay?â
âHuh?â You look at the frying eggs, then at Lohenâs back as he exits the kitchen. âYouâre not going toâ? Eat.â
You scamper after him, but by the time you finish your sentence, the front door is closed and Lohenâs gone.
Left alone in his dim condo, your mind swims. Did you say something wrong? Should you have just said yes, told him youâd move in? Even if it was a joke, was he just trying to see if you cared? Does he think you donât like him now? Did you fuck things up, just like you always have at every point in your terrible fucking life?
Your shoulders shake with a sob. Rubbing your eyes with your fists, you sniffle.
Then you smell something burning. Rushing back into the kitchen, you cut the heat to the stove, and you stare down at the charred bunnies in the frying pan. What a giant mess you have made, with your own two hands.
Lohen holds his hand to his mouth, his face smoldering under his palm. As he marches to his car, he thinks that heâs stupid, stupid, stupid.
âI should turn around,â he says quickly. âBut if I turn around I might panic. And if I panic sheâll get scared, and I donât want Bunny to be scared of me.â
Fuck, his throat is closing up. Fuck, heâs starting to feel like he canât breathe. The garage walls warp, and when he stumbles into his car, he clutches his fist over his heaving chest.
âI just want her to love me,â he whines. âWhy doesnât she ever say she loves me?â
He doesnât have time for this. He canât break down like thisânot when heâs supposed to be your protector, your knight. He canât hurt your feelings and then leave so he can cry like a bitch in his car, because heâs supposed to be the branch holding you up, heâs supposed to lend you the nutrients, heâs supposed to stretch you to the sun, and make sure you never fucking fall away from him.
He jams his hand into his pocket, withdrawing a lump of pink bubblegum. Shoving it into his mouth, he chews and chews and chews, and eventually, the panic settles.
âPeople are scared, Lohen. Just because someone hurts you, doesnât mean that they meant to. Sometimes fear can impact peopleâs judgment.â
âFor once,â he growls, sniffling in the driverâs seat, âthe old manâs right.â
Youâre not just any womanâyouâre one whoâs been hurt before. Even if Lohenâs as gentle as he is, youâve been wired to stay on alert. You donât hate him, youâre just not used to this kind of princess treatment. Before he came along to save you, you were struggling for so, so long on your own.
Youâre just guarded. Itâs only natural that it would take you time to fully trust him. Itâs only natural that you didnât run after him.
Ping!
He immediately snatches his phone to his face, but instead of seeing your name on his screen, he sees Theodoreâs.
[Theo]
Just got dispatched.
[Theo]
They found him.
His breath stills. Slowly, surely, Lohen smiles.

learning (now i know that we fw inexperienced lohenâŠâŠâŠâŠIM SORRY THIS IS BORINGGG TT)
say you and lohen are both inexperienced, youâre each otherâs first real, healthy sexual relationship. making out isnt so hard, but the touching? how to really approach third base? he doesnât know what the right move is. he knows what foreplay is, of course he does. he stays up at night reading guides on how to please his partner. but it doesnât mean hes any more confident
he proposes he watch you touch yourself, watch how you get to cloud 9. that way, he can learn first hand, because none of the articles are about you. he can look up all the techniques he wants, but only you know how to make yourself writhe and scream.
lohen will sit next to you attentively, watching you sprawl your beautiful naked body on the bed before you start your ministrations. he pays attention to every single detail, how your fingers move, how much pressure you apply on yourself, how long you stay at the same task for to really rile yourself up, all of your little noises and pretty faces you make. if you try to cover your face, heâll beg you to put your hands down, he needs to see for his research!
feel guilty for just making him watch? think your foreplay takes too long? nonsense. the moment you laid down, lohen was already turned on. heâll sit there for hours admiring you, until your umpteenth orgasm for all he cares. itâs entrancing. heâll praise you through it, commenting on how amazing youâre doing, how good you sound and how gorgeous you look. heâs itching to write down notes, but heâs sure his memory will not fail him he might just cum untouched by watching you, honestly.
he wonât pleasure himself until youâre finished getting what you need, he doesnât wanna miss any moment. he has to ignore the throbbing arousal in his pants, covering it with his shirt and hands, to be a good boy and not get ahead of himself. heâll wait for you. once youâre satisfied, he nervously strips away his embarrassment.
lohen cant keep his eyes on you when heâs working himself, but he likes the way youâre staring. being analyzed by the love of his life, wondering how to take care of his body. in fact, it just makes him all the more sensitive. this is exactly how he would touch himself whenever he was alone, aching to feel your body, aching for your hands to replace his. and now youâre finally watching him come undone.
if you comment on his performance, giving him praise, heâll just bite his lip and blush harder, a little stubborn look with his eyebrows furrowed. but everything you say to him, every time he glances over to remember that youâre studying him, goes straight to his dick. somehow, masturbating with you around feels 10 times better, and youâre not even doing anything.
hes a little shy when it comes to making noise, but if you made noise while you demonstrated to him, heâll open up too. heâll try to grab for your hand to hold while heâs masturbating, wanting some form of touch now that youâre finally here to have this moment with him. little curses in german, little mumbles of your name, you can tell heâs getting closer.
perhaps when hes much too blissed out, he has such a pathetic look on his face, pouting. he has the guts to bring his head up to finally meet your eyes before he cums, whimpering out your name as if heâs thanking you, as if youâre really touching him.
when youâre both finished? itâs time to put all the learning into action, the real test starts now! ^_^ as soon as he stops cumming, heâs immediately moving to devour your lips, hands scrambling around your body to finally touch you again.
thereâs no shame, no expectation for the first time to be mind blowing. all it has to be is full of love and care, like it should be. if thereâs slip ups, heâll just laugh it off and seal it away with a reassuring kiss.

omg i hate how messily written this looks!
"are you busy tonight?" you didn't think such a casual question from lohen would lead to the lewd position you are in now. your wrists are handcuffed above your head, your legs spread wide with a vibrator on your clit.
one webcam is pointed directly between your legs, giving lohen's chat the perfect view of your hole as it oozes, collecting juices on the insides of your thighs. while the other gives the perfect side view of lohen working your cunt over.
he couldn't think of asking anyone better than you to help him out with this stream. the cute, shy nerd on campus he has been wanting to ruin for several semesters.
and you can never say no to lohen.
your thighs shake as vibrations hum agonizing on your puffy clit. you let out a slightly breathless moan of pleasure as your walls spasm empty around nothing.
"look at you shake," lohen coos, circling your clit with the toy, "and so wet too," his eyes flick up to you, a smirk present on his face, "i hope you don't mind if i have a little taste."
putting his head between your thighs, his tongue parts your drooling folds. keeping the toy focused on your clit, his tongue laps at your hole with a soft slurp.
lohen indulges himself for a few moments, generously prodding the tip of his tongue into your quivering hole. "now chat, you want to know the true beauty about these toys?" he asks, sitting up to wipe his mouth. "my sponsor has assured me squirting is guaranteed."
your cheeks heat at his words. "l-lohen..i don't know if i can.." you felt so shy you could barely finish your sentence, barely able to look at him for a moment.
he chuckles seeing your expression. "aw did you hear that, chat? the pretty nerd doesn't know if she can squirt. how cute," he leans his head down, flicking his tongue around your nipple. he sucks on your nipple for a few moments, relishing in your squirms as he massages your clit with the bullet.
"with this toy in particular, it has several vibration settings," his finger flicks over the button, "perfect for keeping the more submissive types weak and needy."
you whine as the delicious vibrations on your clit die down. the haze of your building orgasm suddenly stops. your hips rock sinfully up to grind your clit on the toy, desperate for stronger stimulation.
shutting the bullet off, lohen sets it aside for another toy. he picks up a long, curved g spot stimulator. "i am told tapping is the key with this toy," he explains, pushing the curved dildo inside your cunt. lewd moans tear from your throat as your cunt stretches to accommodate the toy. you shake a little as the curved tip rests into your g spot. lohen holds it there for a few moments before tapping his finger on the toy.
your body jolts as your back arches off the bed. lohen pumps dildo inside your sloppy cunt, tapping and rubbing it against into your g spot at various intervals.
you twitch as you feel an unfamiliar pressure building up behind your core. lohen flicks his finger on the button, and you cry out as vibrations suddenly assault your sweet spot. your body melts as the haze of your dying orgasm builds again.
"don't get too comfortable," lohen chirps gleefully there is a dark glint in his eyes as he angles the toy deeper into your sweet spot, making you see stars. "i have one more toy to use."
you whine as your orgasm is cruelly ripped away from you again. he shivers seeing the look in your eyes. the power he has over your orgasms are quite addicting.
you lie there, breathless and panting quietly. your cunt is spasming empty around nothing, and your eyes can't help but drift down to lohen's cock. how good it would feel to have his cock pounding into you..
"think you can take more?" he teases as he picks up a thick, ribbed dildo. turning the toy on, he circles the tip teasingly around your nipple, making your clit throb as you squirm.
you moan, digging your fingernails into the palms of your hands. "please, just fuck me now, lohen. please, i'll beg," your body is tense with the desperate need to cum.
pleasure bursts white behind your eyes as lohen stretches your cunt on the dildo. "this particular toy is designed for double penetration," he laughs softly in excitement, resting the dildo against your g spot, "you'll be squirting on my cock as well."
you let out a sob of pleasure as lohen pushes his hard cock in next to the dildo. "finally, finally," you babble as your pussy stretches to accommodate both.
"such a tight little slut," lohen moans, bottoming out snugly next to the dildo. "i'll fill you full while you gush for me," one hand comes to clasp around your wrists, rattling the chain on your handcuffs. "stay nice and still for me, bunny."
his hips snap into yours, pushing the dildo into your sweet spot with his cock. you whine as the pressure building up behind your core intensifies. "that's a good girl, just let it happen," he coos, letting go of your wrists in favor of playing with your clit.
you are helpless to hold it back as the pressure releases. juices come flooding out around his cock, aiding lohen in fucking both his cock, and the dildo deeper inside of you. sobs tinge your moans as your orgasm follows a few moments later.
boneless, you weakly keep your legs spread for him as he grasps your hips. thanks to the ample stretch of your cunt, you feel every pulse of lohen's cock as it empties inside of you.

Guys the spirit of Shakespeare genuinely not clickbait real footage Tw emotional possessed me and I wrote this in 2 sittings.
Tw: Reader is kinda depressed, reader is stressed from work, Lohen thinks too much about being a video game character, he just takes care of the reader, jealous Lohen, itâs angsty for a second then itâs fluffy and domestic.
Self aware!Lohen who could see all your online activity. All the fanarts you save of him, even the ones where you have to unblur the picture~ Every fan fiction you read and write. You had a way with words! You likened him to a worm living in your brain, or a leech in your wallet. Sucking every penny for every plushie, figure, poster, whatever merch money could buy! Hell, you had a job solely to sustain your Lohen themed spending addiction.
Self aware!Lohen who hates when you even think about other people. And donât you dare even switch your character to one that isnât lohen. He manipulates your FYP to only the best edits of him, the juiciest fics of him, and all the beautiful fanart of him and only him. Donât let him catch you looking up reader x character fics of a character that isnât him. Heâll change the suggestion order to show all the tags he knows you dislike. He feels bad for the other characters, but he has priorities and they have other fans.
Self aware!Lohen who aches to be freed from his pixilated hell. To crawl out of the screen and to actualize on your gaming desk. He could, but he is scared. Heâs not stupid. He knows you fell in love with a character. Not a real person. Could he even call himself a real person? Foreign philosophical questions like these were always considered a waste of time to him. Things only bored people with nothing better to do pondered and ripped their hair out over. But when the minutes since your last log in add up, he finds tufts of his own hair clinging to his sweaty palms.
Self aware!Lohen who gained the courage to, when he knew that youâd be out for a while, step into your room. Just to see what it was like! Living in such a faraway placeâŠHis eyes roamed over your posters, your framed photos filled with your friends and family, your closet, your bed, your overflowing laundry basket. He caught a look at himself in your full body mirror. A mar on the perfect real world room you lived in. In all his dangly, complicated, and counterproductive character model glory.
Self aware!Lohen who doesnât know what to do, what to say, when you catch him, deer in headlights moment, in the middle of your room. So he does what he knows how, and acts in character.
âSweet place.â He says, drawling to hide the shake in his voice. âThough it could use more meâ he nods his head at the miniature Lohen shrine growing in your corner.
âHow stressed am I that Iâm seeing things now?â You sigh and slump your shoulders. You donât know where to put your eyes. Your Yumeship is standing right there. Ever since you laid eyes on his character model you were smitten. His slate colored hair, enigmatic eyes, and cute mole.
And now he was right in front of you. Hand on his hip and smirking at you. His cheeks are chubby.
âAt least feed me while you ogle me.â He says, leaning in. Did he really just say that? Itâs all worth it when he sees you jump and run to the kitchen. Muttering apologies and hiding your bashful face. That really was the best dialog option. He gets to see the rest of your house, get fed by you, and tease you!
Self aware!Lohen who has to fight every cell in his body not to devour the stale rice and curry you place in front of him. If it werenât for rigorous ranged combat and aim training, he wouldnât be able to stop the shake of his hands from holding the same spoon youâve probably eaten from hundreds of times. And to think youâre letting him lick it too!
âSorry, I havenât gone grocery shopping inâŠâ you look to your side, as if youâd find the answer written in the west. Shame creeps up your neck when you see the mess in your living room. And you canât bear to turn your head to see the sink full of dishes and rotting food. Please please please donât let him use the bathroom.
âAges.â He finishes, savoring the last grain of rice. âI canât tell though, youâre a great cook.â He says, placing his hand in his cheek as he gazes at you. Your cheeks redden and he prays desperately that his donât.
âYeah.â Your voice cracks. You look at your lap, clutching your fists, trying desperately not to cry. The motion doesnât go unnoticed by Lohen. He washes his plate and goes to stand behind you. Letting his hand rest on your shoulder. Electro runs down both of your spines at the contact. Lohen had read about similar things in your fan fiction. Surely you wouldnât push him away?
âIm so sorry about the mess, I- works been hounding me, andâŠâ
Self aware!Lohen who thinks âscrew it. I love her, she likes meâ so he leans down and places a small kiss on her hair.
âItâs okay, I donât mind.â
Reader.exe has stopped working.
Reader.exe has fainted.
Reader.exe is falling face first onto the dining table.
Reader.exe is caught by Lohen and is swiftly taken to her bedroom.
Self aware!Lohen who ties a cute apron on, snaps a bright pair of yellow gloves and begins tidying up. Starting with the overflowing sink. Lovingly scrubbing each utensil and plate clean. After that he empties the trash thatâs been piling up. Then he takes a vacuum to the living room and a broom to the kitchen again! Then he braves the bathroom, wiping down the mirror and powder bleaching the counter and sink. He ached to clean your room, but he loathed to imagine you thinking him a crass pervert, having his hands all over your laundry and some other hypothetical overstep. He finished his cleaning spree just in time to give the reader some TLC.
Self aware!Lohen who sits beside you, arms raised to give a massage. It would be easier so straddle your back, but he couldnât do that to his darling, not without your tacit agreement. So with discipline and care, he massages all the stress out of his dears tired bones. You were so tired, and looked to peaceful sleeping, that he felt bad setting your alarm so early in the morning. Letting you miss work wouldnât make your stress any lower.
Self aware!Lohen who begrudgingly tears his hands from your back where he was absentmindedly caressing your skin, leaving small kisses over the smooth expanse. He flips you on your side, sleeping on your stomach is bad practice. He crawls back into your computer, not feeling as hollow as usual. He fantasized about when youâd wake up, take in your clean apartment and relish in your rejuvenated limbs. He even took satisfaction in the fact that no other character would do half of what he did for you. He planned to make your obsession with him worth your while.
Summary: You hear a conversation between Lohen and Theodore that you definitely weren't supposed to. Long story short, you're now trying to set him up with yourself (his crush) while simultaneously trying to bury your own feelings for him so as to not ruin his budding love life.

The title of the fic is a reference to this song of the same name! There's no relation beyond that, I just think it's a cute song :D
You were supposed to meet up with Lohen & Theodore at the formerâs apartment 30 minutes ago. Unfortunately, one thing led to another and here you are, showing up fashionably late. You sent a text in the group chat to let them know about your predicament, but got no response.
As you walk up the front door of Lohenâs abode, preparing your rant about how much the universe hated you today, you hear some⊠peculiar words.
âTaking them out to a shooting range on the first date is a terrible idea!â
You slow your steps at the sound of Theodoreâs voice. What on Teyvat could he possibly be talking about?
âHey, Iâm trying my best here! How am I supposed to know good places to take someone on the first date?â You hear Lohen respond.
Theodore sighs, âYou should focus on telling them how you feel first.â
âIâm working on it.â Lohen grumbles.
âYouâre not working on it hard enough. Youâve been crushing on them for months now, and the closest youâve gotten to confessing is telling them âI like your shade of blood.â while they were sleeping.â Theodore deadpanned.
Hold up. Lohen has a crush on someone? Lohen? He has feelings for someone?!
You quickly unlock the door and let yourself in.
âWhy didnât you tell me earlier?!â You exclaim, barging into the not-so-secret conversation considering Lohen and Theodore were talking so loudly you could hear them clear as day through the formerâs front door.
Both of them whip around to face you at the sound of your voice. Theodoreâs looking at you in shock while Lohenâs face quickly turns red.
âHey- are you okay?â The sight worried you. You quickly make your way over to check if Lohenâs coming down with something. The last time you saw his face this red was when he got extremely sick with the flu in fifth grade.
As you brush Lohenâs hair out of the way to place the back of your palm on his forehead, his face somehow becomes even more red.
âIâm fine!â Lohen tries his best to say it with his usual air of charisma, only for his voice to crack as the words come out.
He felt like he was burning up. You are very much not convinced that heâs fine.
âHe just uh⊠saw his crush walking by outside the window!â Theodore stammers out.
You gasp, quickly running towards said window, slamming your palms besides either side of your head as you smush your forehead against the glass. âWhere?â
âOh they've already gone inside by now.â Theodore nervously chuckles, shooting a glare at Lohen while youâre still focused outside.
(He wasn't lying per say, just stretching the truth a little. Lohen had been watching you approach the apartment complex while you were still quite the distance away, and now you're inside.)
You let out a disappointed sigh before giving up and going over to flop down on Lohenâs couch before pouting at him as you repeat your question from earlier, âWhy didnât you tell me?â You sounded hurt.
âI⊠thought you would get jealous?â Lohen wants to punt himself out the window with that line delivery. He doesnât need to turn around to know that Theodoreâs got an exacerbated look on his face as the brunette fights every urge in his body to facepalm right then and there.
Lohen was always a ferocious child. Heâs gotten into (and won) so many fights over the years. So how the hell is he losing to you in a battle you didnât even know existed?
âLohen.â You sit up straight, grabbing both his shoulders and pulling him close to you. âIâve been trying to get you to make some more friends for years now. Why the hell would I be jealous?â Your words came out with just a little too much malice.
God you looked so attractive when angry.
If Lohen wasnât mortified about the current situation (and if Theodore wasn't here), he would absolutely close the distance between your lips right now.
âBecause Iâd be spending less time with you?â He tries to reason. At least it sounded believable.
Your angry expression morphs into a stunned one before you start laughing, âYou have got to be kidding me! Weâve been friends for so long now. Go confess your feelings to them! I know you wonât stop spending time with me just because you get a partner.â Your words sounded strained.
âMaybe you can help him with that.â Theodore interjects.
Lohen mentally adds him to his poisoning hit-list.
Two days later, here you were, sitting in front of Lohen so he can practice confessing his feelings, while Theodore is quietly snicking in the corner.
The two of you were seated across from each other at his dining room table. You thought it would be helpful to set the scene as if you were on an actual date. Theodore is playing the role of the waitstaff while you act the part of Lohenâs crush. He did seem oddly jittery about this whole thing, maybe this will help him be better prepared for the real deal?
(This definitely wasn't your poorly veiled attempt at feeling like you were on an actual date with him. Your crush. Definitely not.)
Though, the only things Lohen thought were âhelpfulâ in this situation were the dimmed lights. They were doing a lot of the heavy lifting in concealing his raging blush.
âToday was just wonderful, wouldnât you say?â You said, dreamily, looking into Lohenâs eyes with a soft smile.
âIâm, uh, glad you had fun?â His voice went up a little too high near the end there, but at least it didn't crack this time.
You signal him to keep going, this was the best heâs done all day! But to be fair, nothing can be worse than him thinking a good way of impressing his crush was by playing the knife game with his own hand.
You would've been a lot more concerned if only you hadn't seen him do that a million times by now. Sometimes you even let him use your hand when youâre bored. You trust he knows what he's doing.
(Lohenâs been asking to use your hand much more frequently these past few months. It's the perfect excuse for him to hold your hand, if only for a moment. He's even managed to convince you to let him play with your palm faced up. He says it's to spice things up. It's not. He just wants an excuse to stare at those pretty veins on your wrist.)
To help aid him, you reach across the table to hold one of his hands in your own, giving it a comforting squeeze whilst trying your best to ignore the butterflies in your stomach.
Lohen looks down at your entwined hands, pausing for a moment before finally saying, âYour hands would look great around my neck right now.â
He cannot be serious.
âLohen. Respectfully. What the fuck?â You deadpanned, âOkay, that may work on me, but youâre supposed to be pretending that Iâm your crush right now!â You let out a sigh, âLetâs try it again from the topâŠâ
Theodore bursts out laughing from behind you as Lohen wishes he could burst out the front door.
âSo⊠are they here yet?â You ask for the fifth time that hour alone.
âNo. And stop asking, youâll blow our cover.â Theodore shushes.
âWe are standing in the arcade holding newspapers in front of our faces. This is the exact opposite of what having cover is.â You hiss back.
The three of you were at the local arcade, a place Lohenâs crush supposedly frequented, due to your insistence on at least seeing who said crush is. Youâve been there for almost four hours, doing nothing but slightly shuffling locations every so often, hoping to find them.
You did think that was a bit odd though. You and Lohen came here pretty often, so how the hell would you have missed seeing them up until now? Plus, you were starting to get bored. Who the hell goes to an arcade just to stand around all day? Well, the three of you but thatâs besides the point.
You sigh as you tilt your head up and let your hands fall, bringing the newspaper down with them, âCall me back over when they show up, I wanna play some of the rhythm games.â And then off you went.
As soon as you were safely out of earshot, Theodore speaks up, âOkay this is getting ridiculous, you have to tell them that you like them!â
âAbsolutely not,â Lohen hisses back, âIâm willing to chance a lot of things, this is not one of them.â
âDid you even listen to what they said the other week? âOkay, that may work on me, but-â Theyâre receptive to your shitty flirting, thatâs gotta mean something.â
Lohen hates that Theodore had a point. He crosses his arms and looks to the side.
Big mistake.
His eyes fell on you as you hit every note on the game you were playing with accuracy & precision. You were slamming on those poor buttons at this point, but it looks like you were going to get the full combo, so why did you look so upset?
(You have no idea how attractive you looked to Lohen right now. He wants nothing more than to march over to you and beg you to take your frustrations out on him instead of that stupid machine.)
Lohen only breaks his gaze off you when he sees your eyes light up at something in the distance before you start walking back to where he and Theodore still stood.
âThey got a new shooter in, come on, letâs go try it!â You eagerly linked your arm with Lohenâs, quickly tugging him towards the machine.
He doesnât miss how tight your grip on him is, nor does he miss the peeved expression on your face.
So you were getting jealous.
Theodore excuses himself to let you two have some alone time before giving Lohen a thumbs-up for encouragement.
He receives a middle-finger in response.
âIâm starting to think this mystery person doesnât exist.â You sigh.
Lohen almost choked on his water when you said that out loud while studying together in his living room. Yet you sounded⊠almost relieved?
âWhat makes you say that?â He was going to crush his water bottle with how tightly he was squeezing it.
You shrug, âWell, it's been a whole month and they've never showed up at any of the places you and Theodore claimed they frequented.â
âYou've just been really unlucky then!â Lohen tries to laugh it off, âIâve seen them. Many times.â
He really shouldâve thought that through, âPlease donât ask me where please donât ask me where please donât ask me where-â
âWhat if they're avoiding me on purpose? Lohen, what if they hate me?!â You sound genuinely worried as you hold your head in your hands.
âI'm sure that can't be the case, who could hate someone like you?â It was a miracle he managed to say that smoothly.
âBut what if they really don't like me and want us to stop hanging out once you're together?â You were slowly starting to spiral now.
Lohen was offended by that.
Did you really think he'd up and abandon you, his best friend for almost two decades now, just because some rando, crush or not, asked him to?
He flicks your forehead before pulling you into a hug, nuzzling his face into your neck.
âYou're such a dummy.â His voice was soft, âWe've been together for how long and you're worried about something like that? You're never getting rid of me, bunny, not even if you, or anyone else, tried.â
You don't know what to say in response.
Lohen continues, âYou mean so, so much to me. Please don't ever leave my side.â His grip is bruising, contrasting the gentle tone of his voice as the words rush out of him.
It wasn't out of the ordinary for him to be physically affectionate towards you, but something felt different about this.
This felt too close. Too intimate.
It only made it harder for you to push down your feelings for him. You wrap your arms around him as tightly as you can around him.
You don't want him to let go.
You donât want this moment to end.
âYou're acting like you'd rather date meâŠâ You joked, picking your words carefully, desperately hoping for a sign, any sign that your feelings were reciprocated.
âYes.â The word comes out of Lohenâs mouth before he even realizes what he's said.
Your eyes widen. Thereâs no way you just heard him say that⊠right?
âWha- What did you sayâŠ?â You managed to verbalize, as you loosen your arms around him. You wanted to look at his face, but couldn't with how tightly he had wrapped himself around your frame.
Lohen can't tell if your response is positive or negative.
For once, he feels fearful. He didnât want this to be how he told you how he felt, but there was no going back. All he could do now was hold onto you even tighter, hoping that could somehow change the outcome for the better if you didnât feel the same way about him.
Lohen takes a shaky breath, before slowly repeating, âYes.â
âLohen. Look at me. Please.â
He could never refuse anything you asked of him.
He gives you one last squeeze before following your command, loosening himself from you just enough so he can look into your eyes.
However, your eyes weren't looking into his.
Your gaze was instead focused downward, on his lips.
Oh. Oh.
Without hesitation, he closes the distance between your lips, bringing one hand up to the back of your head, pulling you deeper into the kiss, while the other pushes your legs together before finding the back of your knees and lifting you up, carrying you to his bedroom.
He was not letting his precious bunny go tonight.
Theodore gets a text from Lohen the next morning.

Itâs 8 PM at the cabaret club and the guest youâre sitting with quickly excuses himself to the bathroom.
You clasp your hands between your thighs, aimlessly tapping your thumbs against one another. The club around you keeps moving: bunny girls switching tables, men coming in and going out. Glasses clink and cigarette smoke wafts through the air; same old cabaret, same old you.
Well. Sort of the same old you. You try not to make it obvious, but you really want to take a glance behind you. Just to make sure that Lohenâs not having too good of a time without you. Does that make you a jealous girlfriend?
Wait, are you Lohenâs girlfriend? You two never really discussed labels. The only thing you know for sure is that you like him, and he likes you back. When he says he loves you, you know itâs a sweet nothing. At least, you think it is.
The fast click of Rosariaâs heels grabs your attention. Sheâs scribbling on her clipboard, nursing that cigarette between her teeth as she says, âBunny. Turnover.â
âHuh? But my guestâs in the bathroom.â
âDoesnât matter. Deaconessâll tell him you had to go or something.â
âIsnât that kindaâŠ? Rude.â
Your voice falls to a mumble. Rosariaâs already gone. Your bubbly coworker takes her place, beaming at you like the angel she is.
âNo worries, Bunny!â she exclaims, bright and cheery as always. âIâll take it from here!â
You work with a strange group of girls, but Barbaraâs probably one of the strangest. Instead of the thigh-exposing, cleavage-pushing suits that the rest of you wear, Barbaraâs bunny outfit consists of a chaste blouse and modest shorts. Sheâs one of those Barbatos followers, and she claims that the only reason she works the job in the first place is to âsave more sinnersâ. Whatever that means. Of all the places to do missionary work, a cabaret club doesnât seem too ideal to you, but Barbaraâs popularity speaks for itself.
You switch places with Deaconess, rubbing the back of your neck. âWhich table did you come from?â
âThirty-one!â
âOh.â
Your hand curls around your wrist. You chance a glance Lohenâs way, seeing Mona do all sorts of gesticulations around her prized crystal ballâscry glass!âas Lohen watches with an uninterested look. Maybe he notices that youâve moved, because not long after your eyes land on him, his land on yours.
One corner of his mouth pushes up as he leans into his palm. With a slight nudge of his head, you understand what heâs asking.
You smile back and sordidly shake your head. Youâre too far to hear him, but you can see Lohenâs shoulders deflate with a huge sigh.
Unwillingly, but responsibly, you turn your back to him once again. Table 31âs an unfortunate one: itâs the first of the remaining ten tucked around the corner of the club on the subfloor. Thereâs a tiny hallway separating the two, surrounded by slate grey walls. You wonât be able to see Lohen for a while.
âOh well,â you sigh. Itâs not like work and play are meant to be synonymous. You continue on your way, as youâre paid by the hour to do.
The man at Table 31 looks exhausted. Heâs resting against the booth with his neck extended backwards, face to the sky and booze to his chest. You note the salt-and-pepper hair, wrinkles under his eyes, and the thick brown briefcase resting at his foot. Must be a salaryman.
âHi, dear guest,â you say, putting on that hostess smile youâve worked so hard on. âIâm Bunny. Whatâs your name?â
When the man rolls his head back into place, his eyes widen. His face is red from one ear to the other, probably from all those empty glasses of champagne lining the end of the table.
âWell, arenât you pretty? Certainly showing more skin than the other one.â He scoots over, pats the seat next to him, and says, âIâm Tohler.â
You know this job well enough to know that this man smells like trouble.
âAh, donât look at me like that.â He winces. âI just wanna talk to a pretty girl about my shitty day. Youâll listen to an old man, wonât you?â
You want to tell him youâre Lohenâs pretty girl, but you hold your tongue. Cautiously sitting next to him, you tuck your legs in as tightly as possible to maximize the distance between you. Tohlerâs probably too drunk to realize that heâs manspreading seventy percent of the seat away. Or he just doesnât care.
âWant a drink?â he asks.
âNo, Iâmâum. That would be nice, yes.â
âWhat do you like?â
âChampagne,â you say automatically.
âThen a glass of champagne it is. Hey, buddy! Get another for the lady, would ya?â
You wince when he raises his glass and barks at Mika like heâs a dog. Shooting your coworker an apologetic glance, you quickly turn your attention to the empty glasses. One, two, three, four, fiveâŠ
The club champagneâs not the best, but overconsumption is overconsumption, no matter how weak the elixir. Of course you donât know this man and his tolerance, but youâre no amateur at gauging how drunk your customers are. âYou must have had a long day.â
âLong as fuck,â he concurs. âShitty boss making me work overtime again. My shiftâs supposed to end at three. Wanna guess what time I got off?â
âEightâŠ?â
âThatâs right! Eight oâclock! I mean, really, who does that guy think he is?!â
Tohler takes a hearty swig of his champagne. When Mika returns to the table, he mouths, Rosaria?
You quickly nod. Something about this man knots your gut, and you donât like it. Mika hurriedly departs with the empty glasses, and you try to remain calm. Youâve been taught how to identify potentially troublesome situations, and how to elegantly avoid them all the same.
âUm.â You canât help your awkward stammer. âSorry, guest, but I, um. I have to use the restroom. Iâll be right back.â
Before you can shuffle out of the booth, the manâs hand clamps down around your thigh.
âYou runninâ away from meâhicâpretty girl?â
Chills prick at the skin of your arms. Your body wonât move. Why wonât your body move?
âYouâre just playing hard to get, arenât ya? Huh, pretty girl?â
He squeezes you. Your hand flies to your mouth, a cold sweat breaking across your forehead as youâre gripped with nausea. You see calloused hands, you feel fists in your hair, hot tears streak your cheeks, but there are dollar bills in your cleavageâ.
âYou do not touch my girls that way!â
Rosariaâs voice rips through the air. She all but yanks you out of the manâs grasp, holding you to her chest like a lioness guarding her cub. You fall against her like youâre made of paper, your jaw hanging agape.
âWe operate on a strict no-touching policy!â Rosaria barks, her voice full of fire. âIf you canât follow those simple rules, then get the fuck out of my club!â
For as icy as Rosaria is, as cold as she is about metrics and money and running a business, she fights harder for you and the girls than anyone youâve ever met. You donât realize youâre trembling in her arms until she rushes you to the main floor, practically carrying your weight as she leads you to the break room. You pass Tables 1 thru 30 in plain sight, and when you turn to meet those eyes of Lohenâs, theyâre wider than saucers.
They donât blink. They donât waver. Theyâre a red-blue sea of catastrophe.
You gag, cupping your mouth again. Rosaria sits you down and brings you a bag, which you promptly vomit into.
She pulls your hair out of your face. As you eject the contents of your stomach, your manager remains at your side, shushing you when you start to cry.
âHey, youâre okay,â she whispers, lifting a rag to your mouth. âItâs not your fault.â
âI couldnât move,â you wail, hot tears rushing down your cheeks. âI donât know why I couldnât move.â
âItâs okay,â Rosaria repeats, firmer this time. âItâs not your fault, Bunny.â
Your ice cold manager, who hates physical affection with every fiber of her being, wraps her arm around your shoulders and brings you into a much-needed hug. You bawl against her, clinging to her like a younger child to her older sister.
âIâm sorry,â you cry. âI messed up. I know youâre trying to run a business.â
âHey,â Rosaria says sharply. âDonât even think about that right now. Nothing that happened out there is your fault. It never was.â Her voice lowers. âIt never will be.â
She pauses.
âJustâŠknow that itâs never your fault. Okay?â
You nod. Nose stuffed with thick, wet snot, your voice comes out pitiful. âOkay.â
âHere. Tissue.â
âThanks.â
You blow your nose, and once your breathing slows, Rosaria releases you. She stands with her back to you, her eyes focused into the distance. You stare at her reflection in the vanity mirror, and you watch as the light cast upon her flickers. Her hands are curled into fists at her sides.
You sniffle, rubbing your puffy red eyes. âSorry. Iâll get back out thereâ.â
âTake a break,â Rosaria says. âIf you donât feel like you can work the rest of your shift, thatâs fine too. Just take care of yourself, Bunny.â
With that, the dull thud of her heels leads to the door. Youâre left in the stuffy breakroom by yourself, alone with your thoughts, and no one to tell you what to do.
Itâs 9 PM at the cabaret club, and Lohenâs bored out of his mind.
âI gotta shit,â he drawls.
âHold it!â Mona snaps, her hands levitating around her glass ball, eyes focused intently on it. âYou just went!â
âIâve got the runs,â he argues.
âYou are not leaving until I finish this divination! Iâm so close to completing it!â
Lohen groans. Disinterested, he leans against his palm, staring longingly after the bar. What he really wants is to have some more fun with those drinks while Mikaâs turned around. If he canât sit with you, then heâs gotta find something to entertain himself.
Right when that thought crosses his mind, a man heâs seen three times prior goes striding past again, his face red. Lohen smirks at the toilet paper stuck to his shoe.
âArenât you supposed to be doing that turnover thing?â he asks the woman across from him.
âSilence!â Mona barks. âThe image is too murky for me to swiftly interpret it. If you would stay put and keep your mouth shut, this wouldnât be as difficult!â
âWhy do you even care so much? Go divine someone elseâs fate.â
âYour fate is unique,â Mona says with a squint. âIâve never struggled with a divination like this before. Consider me intrigued.â
To Lohen, Monaâs âdivinationâ just looks like a crazy woman using ornate words and waving her hands around a flashy glass ball. He reaches out to tap a finger against it and Mona smacks his hand away.
âDo not touch the scry glass!â
âFor a murky glass it looks pretty clear to me,â he says. âCan you go now?â
âYou ungrateful plebian. The answer is no.â
He sighs. Reaching into his pocket, he pulls his phone out, drafting a message to Theodore.
[Lohen]
Iâm being held hostage by a psycho. Anything interesting going on?
[Theodore]
A psycho??? Thought you said you were going to see your girlfriend
[Lohen]
Itâs a long story. Any bait takers or what?
[Theodore]
Not this time. Iâm busy responding to a call at Goth Grand. Double homicide. Already dead when me and the guys got here.
Lohenâs brows raise for a moment. Goth Grandâs one of the longest standing hotels in Mond history, yet no one he knows has ever claimed to have stayed there. Itâs an old Victorian building surrounded by glitzy pavements and guarded by Snezhian security officers 24/7. Certainly not the kind of place where one would expect a double homicide.
Now thatâs entertainment. If he wasnât waiting to hang out with you, heâd interject himself into that situation in a heartbeat.
[Lohen]
Whoâs investigating?
[Theodore]
Varka and a few rookies. You guys must be short tonight.
[Lohen]
Weâre short every night.
[Theodore]
Same man.
[Theodore]
You coming?
Lohen glances at Mona, whose face is just inches away from her âscry glassâ. He still wants to see Bunny, so he texts back: Nah.
âYou do not touch my girls that way!â
The walls of the club seem to shake when a womanâs voice cuts over the music. Lohen tries to find the source of the commotion, but as far as he can tell, whoeverâs yelling must not be on the main floor. Even Mona stops her crazy pseudoscience, her head turned to the wall beside her.
âMiss Rosaria?â she asks.
âIf you canât follow those simple rules, then get the fuck out of my club!â
Thatâs Rosaria alright. And by the sounds of it, sheâs pissed. Pissed about someone who touched one of her girls.
Lohen has a bad feeling brewing in his gut before he even makes eye contact with you.
Your eyes are glistening with big fat tears, wet streaks rolling down your cheeks. Your eyes widen when they land on his, and before he can mentally process whatâs going on, Rosariaâs escorting you straight into the breakroom. Your eyes part, your body disappears behind the grand red door, and Lohenâs searing.
Before Mona turns from the wall, he fixes his expression. The cogs in his brain turn quickly, sharply.
Raising his phone to his face, he stares at Theodoreâs message and groans.
âTerrible fucking timing. Sorry, Fortune Girl, but I gotta go.â
âWhat? But your divinationâ!â
âHomicide investigations canât wait for your fuckinâ fortune telling.â He stands from the booth, the edges of his vision turning red. âDo me a favor and tell Bun Iâm sorry. Iâll buy her that drink I owe her later.â
â...Fine,â Mona says. âI suppose duty calls. But I still expect you to sit for a divination the next time we meet!â
âYeah, yeah, whatever,â he says, his feet marching against the laminate floor. âNext time.â
At the front of the club, Lohen veers left. A small corridor connects the main floor to the subfloor. About fifteen feet long, ten feet wide. As his feet stomp into the floor, his blood simmers with ice-cold fury.
And yet, thereâs a perverse undertone of joy.
âSir,â he hears as he rounds the corner, âyou have to leaveâ.â
âYeah, yeah, I get it. My bad. But canât I finish this first? I mean, you only just brought it to me.â
Mika looks uncomfortable, white-knuckles clutching his serving platter to his torso. Compliantly, weakly, he gives the guest a nod. Mikaâs shorter and smaller, and in this scenario, heâs most definitely weaker.
He makes Lohen sick.
âYouâre a good kid,â the man says, salt-and-pepper hair, wrinkles under his eyes. âPromise Iâll leave as soon as Iâm done.â
One exit at the subfloor. One at the bar. Ten foot fence around the back. He can scale it, easy. No eyes, no witnesses, no mercy.
He only needs ten minutes.
Itâs 9:38 PM, and before you can fully regain a sense of calm, you hear a commotion through the breakroom door.
âI said Iâm not fuckinâ leaving! Not until I finish my fuckinâ drink!â
Glass shatters. Someone gasps, and you hear someone else cry, âCall the police!â
Your breath hitches. Scrambling to the door, you burst through it to see a crowd of patrons and employees alike stuffing the hallway to the subfloor. When another person yells to call the cops, your head turns to Table 5, looking for Lohen.
Heâs gone.
You push through the throng of people, elbowing your way back to Table 31 as your heart hammers in your ears. Tohler sneers with a glass of champagne in hand, Rosaria standing before him with a fierce scowl, Mika cowering behind her.
âFinish it then!â Rosaria snarls. âYou donât have much left, you dumb fuck!â
âFuckinâ bitch!â
The man is belligerent, and under the chandelier lights, you see how dilated his pupils are. He tips his champagne glass upside down, and as it runs from his glass into his mouth, his throat bobs with a paltry swallow.
Rosariaâs nose furls. âLeave.â
âTch! Booze tastes like shit anyway!â
âHeyâ!â
Rosaria is interrupted by a sharp gasp. In an instant, it feels as though the flow of air around you comes to a stifling standstill.
Tohler grabs his chest, sucking air through his mouth with a cacophonous, grating sound. His dilated eyes go from looking forward to rolling backwards, red blood vessels bleeding into his white sclera. Every muscle in his body visibly tenses, bulging against the confines of his skin as his face takes on an ungodly shade of red. With another stomach-churning, seal-like noise, he falls forward.
Crash!
Champagne glasses shatter under his face, glass shards drawing blood across the white-topped table. The muscles fighting against him stagger, catch, then start violently shaking like a tectonic slip. Spit bubbles foam in his mouth, blood drips onto the floor, and in the next instant, your ears are consumed by the screams of those around you.
Itâs 9:48 PM at the cabaret club and the place is both shockingly empty and alarmingly full at the same time. Red and blue lights flash in through the windows, a series of police, fire, and ambulance vehicles surrounding the building. Youâre sitting at Table 5, where Lohen had been earlier that night, your eyes fixed to the smooth surface of the table. Your hand repeatedly strokes over the seat of the booth, like you might be able to feel his residual warmth if you try hard enough. Rosaria sits at your side, her arms crossed over her chest.
Mona told you that Lohen had a work emergency. That he left a little after 9, something about a homicide call. That heâs sorry, and heâll be back for âyour drinkâ as soon as he possibly can be.
You hear the crunch of the seat across from you. When you look up, a blonde-haired woman in a sharp blue suit is sitting there.
âHi, Bunny,â she says, extending her hand your way. âIâm Sergeant Jean. My sister, Barbara, has told me a little bit about you, but weâve never met. Iâm sorry weâre meeting for the first time under these circumstances.â
You shake Jeanâs hand, your fingers numb. She looks like Barbara alright, with her soft face that could put anyone at ease, but she carries herself with a distinct level of poise. Sheâs no amateur, and youâd be remiss to think that.
She inclines her head at Rosaria, no introduction spoken. When Jean looks at you, you tremble.
Youâre nervous, youâre scared, and more than anything, you want Lohen to hold you.
âI just have a few questions,â Jean says. âVery informal. Youâre not being interrogated or anything.â
It slips out in a whisper. âOkay.â
âI know youâve been through a lot tonight,â Jean says softly. âIâm only questioning you because youâre one of the last people to have seen Tohler before his passing. Please donât think youâre in any kind of trouble.â
You have rocks in your throat that sting when you swallow. âOkay.â
âI just want to know what youâve seen and heard. Anything and everything is helpful, no matter how small it may seem.â
Your brows furrow. â...Okay.â
âIs that alright?â Jean asks.
You wring your hands under the table and nod.
Itâs 10:48 PM when Lohenâs phone rings with your name on it.
He glances at Varka. âIâve gotta take this.â
âSure,â Varka replies, rubbing the back of his neck. âI think weâll be able to handle the rest of this one ourselves, Lohen. I appreciate all your help, though.â
âNo prob, Chief.â
He turns the corner, stepping under yellow police tape and past a pair of paramedics getting interviewed by the rookies. He meets Theodoreâs eye for a moment before silently brushing past.
âHey,â he says into the receiver, âIâm so sorry, BunâI got a homicide call. Iâm on my way right now. Are you okay?â
His car keys jingle as he withdraws them from his pocket. You take a breath in, your voice shuddering against his ear.
âI donât know.â
âIâll be there in ten minutes,â he says, dropping into his black coupe. âYou wanna talk to me while I drive?â
Your voice shakes again. When he powers his car on, your voice outputs from the speakers.
âYeah,â you say. âPlease.â
He gets chills. Digging his teeth into his lower lip, he tries to push that thrill aside.
âTalk to me then, pretty girl. What happened?â
He waits with bated breath. As he drives through the nighttime city, alive with cars as always, he hits a red light and listens to the sound of your breath. It surrounds him, soft and shaky, and his skin prickles at the feel of it.
He looks at himself in the rearview mirror. An ear-to-ear, toothy grin sits on his blushing face.
Quickly, he straightens his lips out.
â...Iâll tell you when you get here,â you say eventually. âAlso, aâŠsomebodyâŠa manâŠâ
âWhat?â
âIâŠI guess I can tell you about that when you get here too. Sorry, IâŠI guess I donât really want to talk after all.â
He swallows. âWant me to hang up?â
âNo,â you answer immediately. âNo, please donât. I want you to stay with me.â
Fuck, he thinks, teeth gnawing his lip. He loves it when you talk to him like you need him. He needs to hear you say it to his face with your trembling lips and your cute little whimpers, needs to feel your body shake in his arms like the leaf you are. Heâll hold you up. Heâll be the branch you belong to. Heâll lend you the nutrients, stretch you towards the sun, and hold onto you so tight, youâll never fall away from him.
You sniffle. Lohen swallows hard, fingers clamped around the steering wheel.
âIâm right here, Bun.â
You respond with your quivering breath. âThank you.â
Lohen brings you home.
âShh, shhâŠâ
Your fingers curl into the back of his shirt, pulling the fabric taut as you cry. Lohen provides solid comfort, stroking your hair and rocking you gently as he holds you in his arms. You bury your face into his pine-scented neck and he presses his lips to your temple.
âYouâre okay,â he murmurs. âIâve got you.â
You inhale a trembling breath. In a mumble, you say, âThank you.â
He holds you for what feels like ages, rubbing your back and whispering sweet affirmations into your ear all the while. You melt into him, letting him support your weight as you allow your muscles to fall slack. It feels good to be held like thisâto be supported. You wish heâd hold you forever, so you wouldnât have to bear the brunt of your calamitous mind alone anymore.
Lohenâs voice is soft. âYou wanna tell me about it?â
You nod. Swallowing, you say, âSomeone touched me.â
You feel him stiffen. âWhere?â
âMyâŠthigh,â you mumble. âItâs not the worst place Iâve been groped at, butâŠâ
âYou shouldnât be groped at anywhere,â he growls. âWho the fuck is this guy?â
He doesnât say, âIâll kill him.âÂ
âHe had a seizure at the club,â you say quietly. âHeâŠdied.â
Lohenâs quiet. He reassures his grip on you, but the silence continues. You lift your head from his damp skin, hesitant at first, but you force yourself to catch his eyes. You expected to see that hardened expression from earlier, but instead, you see a sad pair of red-blue irises. His lashes blink slowly over his eyes, long and curled, bathed in the soft lamplight that envelops his condo.
Another tear rolls down your cheek. Lohen lifts his hand to your face, brushing it away with his thumb. As he watches you with those woeful eyes, you canât hold back your petulant sob.
âShh,â he whispers, pulling you close once again. âDonât cry, pretty girl. Iâm here.â
You nod, welding yourself back into the skin of his neck, and when he kisses you once more, you feel so, terribly, weak.
By the time your tears are dry, you almost drift off to sleep where you stand.
âBun,â Lohen says. âYou tired?â
You blink your heavy eyelids. Face still pinned to his neck, you nod.
âYou can sleep in my bed if you want. Iâll carry you.â He pauses. âYouâŠwanna shower first?â
You smooth your palms against his shoulder blades. âWill you shower with me?â
âHuh? Oh, um. I-I mean, if thatâs what you want, then, uhâŠâ
You look at him. Heâs red in the face, babbling like you havenât gone further with each other. You smile.
âPlease?â
He laughs.
â...Sure, Bunny.â
âCan you help me?â
You turn to the shower, showing him your back. As the seconds tick by, you remain standing under the fluorescent lights, waiting.
You turn your head. Lohen jumps in the corner of your vision.
âSure,â he blurts out immediately.
You feel the warmth of his body as he approaches. The knuckle of his index finger brushes against your back when he grasps the zipper holding your suit together. He touches it, but he doesnât pull it down.
âWhatâs wrong?â you ask.
âNothing. I just, uhâŠwas thinking.â Lohen hesitates. âIâveâŠnever seen you fully naked. With the lights on and everything.â
His words hang in the air by your ears. Lifting your hand to your mouth, you stifle your giggle.
âThereâs a first time for everything,â you tell him warmly.
âO-okay.â He groans. âFuck, I feel lame.â
âYouâre not lame.â
â...Youâre okay with me doing this?â His breath ghosts across your skin. âYou mean it?â
âOf course. I trust you, Lohen.â
âHm.â His knuckles softly stroke your back. âOkay then. Since you asked.â
When he unzips you, goosebumps prick at your arms. You blame it on the cold. When the leotard falls to your ankles, you step back and nudge it aside with your foot.
You can practically hear Lohenâs struggle. His hands hover in the air by your hips when he asks, âWant me toâŠkeep going?â
You nod. Lohenâs fingers, which have touched you in far more intimate ways before, tremble as they slide under your stockings. The garment follows the movement of his fingers, bringing both your hosiery and g-string down the length of your legs. Once again, you step out of the clothing heâs taken off of you, and standing before him like this, you feel renewed.
Youâre smiling when you turn around to face him. As expected, his face is a cardinal shade of red, and his eyes donât dare stray from yours. You like that he doesnât look you up and down, that he always asks before doing things. You like that he makes you feel pure.
That you know you can always rely on him.
âYouâre gonna shower with me, right?â you ask. âYou have to take your clothes off first.â
His throat bobs with a swallow. You watch his hands as they lift to his buttons, his eyes closed as he undoes them one by one.
When heâs fully unbuttoned, you place your hands along the edges of his shirt. You peel it away from his skin, and he lets you work it off his arms. Your hands move to his belt, and you exchange a glance with him.
Lohen doesnât say anything. His chest expands with quiet, rapid breaths.
The leather of his belt slides between your fingers. The metal clasp jingles when it falls to the floor.
âS-stop,â he stammers softly, his hand curling around your wrist. âSorry, Iâ. Fuck, Iâm so embarrassed.â
You take a step forward. Coming so close that your bare chest presses into his, you rest your palms on his hips and kiss him.
You observe his face when you pull away. Lohenâs shoulders rise and fall faster, his fingers curling around your forearms. Before he can say anything, you kiss him again.
Your hands slip under the waistband of his trousers. You push closer, your nipples rubbing against his, and feel him moan against you. Youâre not ignorant to that hardness poking into your thigh, nor are you a stranger to his needs.
Your leg raises slightly, giving him pressure. Lohenâs eyes fly shut, a hot pant falling from his lips. His hips lightly rub forward.
âWant to touch me?â you whisper.
âYeah,â he says, his voice rough. âFuck, I wanna touch you all over, Bunny.â
âThatâs okay. You can touch me if you want.â
His cold hands curl around your waist. Pressing his forehead to yours, he gives you an eager nod.
âYouâre so pretty,â he whispers, rutting against your thigh. âJust like a princess.â
A pleased warmth rises to your cheeks. You smile, slotting your nose against his.
âStay with me,â he breathes, fingers digging into your ass. âPlease.â
With a soft laugh, you nod. âDonât worry, Lohen. Iâm not going anywhere.â
âBunny,â he breathes against you, stiff and throbbing, up and down your thigh. âYou mean so much to me.â
You kiss him. Your fingers run along the smoothness of his face, one thumb brushing the mole under his eye while the other plays with the arrowhead dangling from his left ear. Youâll have to remember to ask him what thatâs about next timeâif itâs sentimental to him. You never see him without it.
Lohen moans against you, his hands stroking you from your ass to your thighs, touching you so sweet, so desperately. He frots against you like heâs never done it before, messy and disjointed, but filled with so much passion that it hardly bothers you. You like being able to sense his needs, and having the means to take care of them. Especially when you know he takes such good care of you.
âBun,â he whispers, high-pitched and strained. âIâm gonna cum.â
When he touches you like this, speaks to you like this, you can forget how that manâs fingers wrapped around you. You can forget how he seized.
A tear is running down your face. Before Lohen can see it, he tucks his chin over your shoulder, grasping your hair lightly in his fist. With a soft whimper, he cums.
âI love you,â he whispers.
Behind his back, you lift your trembling hand to your face. You try to suppress it, but you canât help the sob that escapes you.
Lohen quickly withdraws from you, blinking rapidly. He cups your face in his hands, shakes his head, and whispers, âHey, hey. Itâs okay, Bun. You donâtâŠyou donât have to say anything back.â
His love rubs away the touches placed upon you against your will. Of course you want to reciprocate it. But in the back of your mind, you canât forget how he seized.
âShh,â Lohen says, pressing a kiss to your mouth. âItâs alright, pretty girl. Iâm sorry.â
You donât want him to be sorry for loving you.
âHey, letâs get cleaned up,â he murmurs. âWould that make you feel better?â
âYeah,â you whimper.
âThen weâll do that.â
His smile is irresistibly charming, like that of a prince from an old, forgotten fairytale. Heâs beautiful, heâs kind, he's strong, and he loves you.
At least, he says he does.
âCome on, Bun,â he purrs. âIâll wash your back for you. Youâll feel better.â
You continue to cry in silence, but you nod. After all, you believe him.
In the darkness of Lohenâs bedroom, you lay in an entangled heap of arms and legs. You tell him you donât want his arm going numb, being stuck under your pillow like it is, but he tells you he likes how it feels.
âThe numbness?â you ask with a smile. âOr your arm being under my head?â
âMm, both,â he mumbles. He curls his knees further into the back of yours, nuzzling his face against you all the while. âThis okay? Comfortable?â
Heâs got you entirely locked in his arms, one of his legs poking through yours too. With a soft laugh, you nod your head.
âOkay. Good.â He squeezes you tighter. âI love you, Bun.â
Your lips part. Words should come out, but they donât.
âGoodnight,â Lohen says.
You close your eyes.
âGoodnight.â
You are haunted by dreams of death and violence. Bubbles of drool, streaks of blood against a white-topped table, blood running down your face, your stomach, your thighs, suffocating you, choking you, making you seize.
And yet, at the end of it all, Lohenâs bloodied hand descends through the madness. He smiles with those soft red eyes of his, and your fears dissipate into blurry nothingness. You reach upwards, straining for him, your fingers just barely touching his, and thenâ.
Youâre awake. Youâre doused in a cold sweat. And youâre laying in Lohenâs bed alone.
Shivering, you roll over to his vacant side. Tears streaming down your face, you wrap your arms around yourself. You know itâs probably some time past eight in the morning, that heâs likely at the precinct by now, doing his job. You understand that. You have to.
Itâs selfish of you, really. But you still wish he was here. Heâd know exactly what to say to comfort you.
âFor hurting youâŠhe deserved it.â
Lohen tells you, he deserved it.
You trust him more than anything. With him, you donât have to struggle. With him, you donât have to fight.
You donât have to think.
Lohen would tell you to smile.
So with your head rested against his cool, feather pillow, you do.
everything was loud. though you werenât sure what you were expecting, it was a party after all. a party full of drunk young college kids no less. the others had already wandered off to god knows where to have their fill of alcohol. you were a bit disappointed you wouldnât be able to join in, but it was nothing you couldnât handle.
currently, you were leaning against a wall with your back against it and talking with xiao, who had yet to leave your side, ânot used to the alcohol?â you ask xiao with an amused smirk present on your features.
he grunts in response, turning his head away to hide his flushed face. âiâm fine, just tipsy.â he mumbles, drink in hand and all. only a few sips in and he was already looking like he had taken ten shots in one go. it was silly to say the least.
âwell youâd do yourself some good tagging along with the others instead of staying back with me.â you suggest softly.
âyouâll be alone.â
âi can hold off on my own.â
xiao grunts in response again, hesitantly taking no more than a sip from his drink, as if afraid that any more would cause him to black out. âyou just⊠always stick around when iâm the designated driver.â he looks down at his cup and coughs, feeling the burning of the drink in his throat. you hum. âi do, but thatâs just because i know how much you canât stand crowded places like these sober.â
your eyes wander around the place, you saw a lot of familiar faces within the crowd, everyone looked like they were having fun, especially lumine who was hyping up a drunk venti from the other side of the room. âbut i can handle crowds, you donât need to worry about me.â
you lean in closer to whisper into his ear. âyou should go with the others. lumine and venti are over there.â you point and his eyes follow. he stays quiet for a moment before huffing in defeat. âright.â he hesitates, his eyes flickering back between yourself and the others. you raise a brow. âiâll be fine, seriously.â you insist stubbornly, now placing both hands on his back to guide him on his way. âgo have fun.â xiao says nothing and turns to nod at you before walking off.
you huff and lean back against the wall, watching him disappear into the crowd in search for the rest of your guysâ friend group. âitâs like high school all over againâŠâ you murmur to yourself.
âwhat was like high school?â
a sudden, new voice joins the picture and it makes you flinch and whip your head around in search for who the sneaky bastard could be until your gaze looked down and saw a familiar mint-green haired guy behind you. âlohen.â you blink, shake your head to come to your senses, and sigh in annoyance. âdo you usually do that with people you know?â you ask, scooting to the side to make more space between the two of you.
lohen only grins like a sly little fox, it pisses you off somehow. âdepends on my mood really.â he shrugs and stands next to you against the wall. âso, what are you doing here? really didnât expect someone like you to be here.â
you snort in amusement. âwhatâs that supposed to mean?â
lohen takes a moment to blow a bubble with the gum in his mouth before replying. âyou just seem too cool to be here in the back all by yourself.â
ârelax, i just got here, let me ease into this place before i go ahead and do something stupid.â you smile to yourself, turning you eyes to meet his. âplus, iâm kind of the designated driver tonight. canât be drinking anyway.â
lohen raises a brow. âyou? i thought you were a horrible driver, did you guys like spin a wheel to decide that or what.â you roll your eyes and shake your head. âwe did actually, just so no one gets left out while the others drink.â you pause. âand who told you that first part?â you lean in closer with skepticism written all over your features. âoh yâknow⊠the grapevine.â lohen doesnât bother leaning away, in fact, one could even argue that he leaned in just the tiniest bit.
you donât buy it and instead pull your head away before any of you could get too close for comfort. you fail to catch the way lohenâs grin strains a little in disappointment. âso iâm guessing venti told you something, huh?â you turn back to eyeing said man as he was now drunkenly dancing and singing on top of a random table. lohen follows your gaze and you both share a laugh.
âi didnât say anything.â lohen looks away and grins as to avoid fault.
âyou didnât have to.â you reply, pausing to imagine what you could wring out of venti as punishment. âiâll talk to him later.â you note aloud.
you both say nothing for a moment and lohen takes the opportunity to slide closer to you. you donât care much for it. âwhat about you?â your words break the silence left lingering in the air. âwhy are you back here instead of with your friends?â
lohen turns his head away to scan the room for rosaria and kaeya who were both busying themselves in a drinking contest with a crowd surrounding them. âehhh i donât drink. leaves ya too dumb for you to pay attention to your surroundings.â he pauses. âand it tastes like shit.â he blurts it out so casually you actually laugh. âah, so youâre those kinds of people then.â
lohen raises a brow, teetering between offense and curiosity. âwhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âexactly what i said.â
lohen pouts, actually pouts and takes this as an opportunity to dramatically drape an arm around your shoulder. âwoooowww. youâre really using my own words against me, you wound me, bunny!â
you scoff. âas if youâd actually care about that. youâve probably already got something else brewing in that brain of yours for sure.â
âam i really such a scheming scoundrel in your head?â his hand squeezes and traces your collarbone.
âvery much so.â
lohen lets out a mix of what seemed to be a scoff and a chuckle. âwell then, youâve caught me. iâm a cunning, evil mastermind that only exists to make your life more difficult.â he then picks out a wrapper from his pocket, spits out his gum into it, and a throws it away into a nearby trash can.
you hum in amusement. âi think the word youâre looking for is ânuisanceâ, lohen.â
âagain, whatâs with all the slander here, you hate me or something?â his grin grows and his eyes crinkle in a way that makes him look oddly charming for once.
you shrug. âi used to. in the beginning of the semester, at least. i wanted to punch your lights out first day of class.â that gets him laughing, his face resting against the crook of your neck. âwell why didnât you?â he asks as if it were the most normal thing on earth.
âbecause iâd probably be expelled, thatâs why.â
âis that the only reason?â
you blink at the question, he seemed to be seriously interested at the aspect of you hitting him in any way. it was obvious by the way his face was now inches away from yours and his eyes were staring into yours with something else in their gaze. âwhat, did you actually want me to punch you?â you chuckle in disbelief. âmmm yeah... i wouldnât have minded actually.â he pauses, his gaze turning suave and half lidded. âprobably wouldâve liked it too.â he murmurs into your ear so that only you could catch wind of that confession.
youâre stunned momentarily, silently processing his words before bursting into a fit of laughter, holding your stomach with your arms. lohen blinks and watches how you double over so abruptly and without explanation. he then opens his mouth to (probably) defend himself but you quickly cut him off. âs-sorry, sorry! i didnât mean to laugh at that. it just caught me off guard was all.â you explain in between laughs. you donât notice the way his eyes softened at your giggling figure, probably because he snaps himself out of it before it could fester into something else.
you calm yourself down after indulging in a rare fit of laughter and turn back to him. âyouâre weird, you know that?â you say that with such a wide and vibrant expression that lohen avoids your gaze entirely. ânot that itâs a bad thing, itâs endearing really.â at that lohen quickly adapts into the conversation and smirks and leans back into you all over again. âhah, i knew it! there was something you liked about me. to think you were just talking about hating me just seconds ago.â his arm doesnât wrap around your shoulder and instead trails down to grab your waist firmly.
âdonât get too cocky now. juryâs still out on whether youâre an acquaintance or not.â you snicker.
lohen gasps dramatically, his chin now resting on your face as if you were the only people in the room right now. âacquaintance? i take offense to that. after all weâve been through?â your hand lightly rests on his back as he talks. âyou mean the one shitty study session we had once where all we did was talk out of our asses for two hours straight? yeah, youâre going to have to try harder than that.â you declare smugly.
though in response to that, lohen only hums. he stayed quiet for a minute and instead decides to inspect your face, his eyes trail around your every feature until youâre sure heâs ready to dissect you. then, just before you could open your mouth to ask him what he was doing, he leaned in closer. so close in fact that your breaths are intermingling with one another. âthen let me try, yeah pretty?â he murmurs, his hand now caressing the side of your face. you blink, now suddenly getting a good look at his features, he was handsome, charming even when he wasnât being an annoying asshole. your eyes flutter and you suddenly feel yourself getting into a daze. it was now at times like these you wished you had a drink in your system so you could blame it on the alcohol for what you do next.
for once in your life you decide to indulge lohen in something. âjust try?â you whisper with a raised brow.
lohen hums in response, eyes lingering elsewhere, primarily on your lips as you speak. âyeah, unless you want something else?â
his little innuendo brings a smile to your face. âhey now, youâre passing the line.â you tease.
he smirks, âwell youâre not saying no.â
âdo you want me to say no?â
silence.
you lean in closer, your arms now wrapped around him, the tips of your noses are practically touching as you manage to whisper âthatâs what i thoughtâŠâ before pulling him into a kiss.
with the way lohen kisses back immediately you could almost conclude with total confidence that he had been waiting for a moment like this to come.
his lips are rough and desperate on yours as if wanting to devour the taste and feeling of you alone. you want to laugh and tease him a little, but instead tilt your head to the side for better access. his hands are shamelessly all over you; on your hips, your ass, waist and the small of your back. you could even feel one traveling to your chest before you pulled away with a small chuckle. ânot here, moron. weâre still in public yâknow?â you scold with a smile. lohen groans, impatient and wanting nothing more than to dive back in to taste you some more. âdonât care.â he grumbles softly, his lips still pressed up against your own.
you roll your eyes, gaze flickering around the room, guiding him to a more secluded corner so you at least arenât making you in everyoneâs faces. âneedyâŠâ you murmur and press your lips against his once more.
you feel a bit ashamed at how quickly you had let things escalate between the two of you, you really knew nothing about him yet here you were, pressed up against a wall with your lips smashed up against his. maybe it was because you were pent up, but it feels hypocritical to call lohen needy when you yourself are too. his kisses grow hot and messy and his hands trail down to tug at the belt of your pants, thumb sliding down under the waistband just to rile you up.
âmy carâŠâ he manages to murmur out in between kisses. âletâs go to my car.â your lips let a small noise of satisfaction escape as his teeth nibble on your bottom lip. âweâll have more privacy there, thenââhe groans softly as his other hand travels under your shirt. ât-then weâll have all the fun we want.â he pants, eyes dazed with a lazy grin present on his face suggestively.
youâre about to open your mouth to speak, to agree like the pent up mess you are when a voice pulls you back to your senses.
â(name)? (nameeee) where are you? i think i broke a nail!â monaâs drunken voice exclaims from a distance.
your head whips around at the sound of your name being called, scanning the crowd until you spot a drunk and crying mona as she held her acrylic nail in her hands as if it were her own.
you almost laugh at the scene alone but quickly turn your head back to lohen. âweâll talk about this later, okay?â you whisper, gently removing his hands from your hips and step back.
lohen grabs your wrist with a disgruntled look written all over his features. âdo you really gotta go?â he groans like a kid who got told no for the first time. âitâs just a stupid nail⊠she can take care of it herself.â
âwell sheâs also drunk.â you sigh, wiping the saliva from your lips. âso she canât.â
lohen clicks his tongue and it makes you roll your eyes. âiâm serious. weâll talk later.â you pause. âwe can continue where we left off another time.â that makes his gaze light up, though it was hard to tell under the dim lighting.
you lean in to kiss his cheek in compensation âjust donât donât be a puss and back out.â you pull your hand away from his own handâs grip on your wrist, wave him goodbye, and immediately make your way to comfort and sober up mona before she herself reached the point of total blackout.
lohen stood there for a moment, speechless for once in his smug life. he actually did it. he actually did it! all those nights spent fantasizing about how you would taste like, how you would feel like, had now come true. sure it mightâve only been a few minutes but that was all he needed. hell who was he kidding? of course it wasnât enough. he needed more, he wanted more, and thatâs probably why he ended up getting ahead of himself. he looked down at his pants and a saw a familiar bulge forming in his pants. âshit, seriously?â he hisses. curse his imagination for letting him get too excited. he looks around the room and makes a break for the bathroom once the coast was clear.
he didnât come out until it was time to leave.
ÖŽÖ¶Öžđ àŁȘË ÖŽÖ¶ÖžđàŒàŒàż
âughâ venti did you shove a wine bottle up your ass or are you this heavy when drunk?â you groan out as ventiâs slumped and limp figure clings onto you for dear life. after almost an hour of trying to find everyone and get them back into the car, you had successfully managed to drive (without crashing) back to yours and albedoâs apartment. you sat down venti, who was babbling unintelligibly, onto the couch where he immediately flopped over like a rag doll.
you turn back to face the others. lumine had fallen asleep on the drive home but somehow managed to walk herself into your room and hasnât come out since. you just hope she doesnât knock anything over or makes a mess out of your room.
xiao was leaning against the wall, legs failing him as he stumbled every time he walked on his own. he kept insisting that he was fine and that he didnât need the help, but you knew better.
âxiao, just let me walk you to the couch so you can drink your water there.â you sigh out and make your way over to him. ânâŠno iâmâŠ.â he immediately loses his train of thought. ââm fine.â he slurs out in a mumbled voice. âyouâre not.â you wrap an arm around his waist, ignoring his protests and sit him down on the couch. âsee? you can barely stand up.â you huff and give him the glass of water he had asked for earlier in the car. ânow drink up.â xiao hums in response and does as you say.
you know that he wouldnât be much of a problem now that he was sat down somewhere so you turn your attention to the next drunk idiot of the night, albedo.
he had stumbled over to take a seat in the kitchen table the moment you all got home and now his head was resting against the cool wood. you sneak up behind him and place a hand on his shoulder. he only lets out a muffled noise in response. âcâmon, you too bedo, you also need to drink water.â
he shakes his head and slowly peeks out an eye. âitâs fine, (nickname), iâm not drunk.â
you scoff. âeveryoneâs told me that exact lie tonight.â you lift his head up and place the glass of water in front of him. âdrink up or iâll make you drink it.â
albedo stares down at the glass of water and pushes it away. âi donât need it.â he insists and instead rests his head on your chest lazily.
âbut you do.â
âi donât.â
âalbedo.â
the use of his actual name gets him to sigh, pick his head up and take a small sip of water. the rest of it falls down his chin.
ââŠitâs a start.â you mutter to yourself, watching him slowly chug down the water. âmona?â you call out to her from her spot against the front door. âhow are you holding up back there?â you ask as you move to help albedo drink the glass of water while wiping the water dripping down his chin.
âiâm⊠okay!â mona exclaims walking in with her hand over her forehead. âjust a bit dizzy.â she closes the door behind her and makes her way into the kitchen. âdâyou know where the ibuprofen is?â she hisses. âmy headâs pounding like crazyâŠâ
âitâs in the second drawer to your left.â albedo drinks the last of his water and you sigh in relief. âfinally.â you pause and pull out your phone from your pocket. âwhat time is it anyway?..â you unlock your phone only to be met with another sight.
I was so anxious and so scared to post this â a character I love so much, but who, deep down, is so complex that he kept me busy for days writing so little.
I truly hope you like it ~
â Thorns: no one
â Flowers included: Lohen beginning to fall in love / reader still unaware of Lohen's feelings
â So discreet when the attraction toward you begins that only after the signs repeat themselves over and over again would someone more used to Lohenâs presence begin to notice that he pays more attention to you than he should.
A shift of his gaze focused on you during some patrol or while walking through the city.
When you pass through the hallway where he is, bored, leaning against the wall while tossing his dagger upward and catching it back in his hand, and Lohen holds it still instead of making it spin in the air once more â his attentive gaze follows you, and Lohen only returns to what he was doing when you disappear from sight.
â He denies being interested in you â but denies it with his eyes fixed on you while he walks and you are distracted in the distance.
Depending on who is with him â and on how bored the subject makes him â Lohen does not mind letting it show that his main attention is on what you are doing in the background.
However, when his companion gives up on talking to Lohen and tries to leave to solve with another superior whatever needs to be solved, they will immediately be surprised by the dagger flying close to their hand already on the door handle.
Lohenâs eyes are still fixed on you.
â Iâll take the camp in the south. Gather the forces to deal with what is being raised in the north. If Varka has problems in the southwest, Iâll get there in time to solve the problem.
Well, at least Lohen was listening to every word of the conversation.
â Absolutely: an eagle eye on you while you go on with your tasks during the day. He absorbs the details about you and still does what he needs to do naturally.
Discreet and efficient.
Fast and effective.
â Once, you crossed paths in one of the hallways. He was leaving a meeting with Varka, you were entering to deliver some papers.
Trying to make space for Lohen and two other knights to pass, you bumped into the nearby furniture and the decorative vase wobbled.
It was already halfway to the floor and you were already expecting the loud crash of shards when... Nothing.
With grace and agility, Lohen reaches the vase and returns it to its place as if his reflexes were a mere triviality.
He greeted you with an ironic comment without being cruel â not as he could be. What Lohen expects â with his attentive gaze â is your reaction: he wants to know if you get embarrassed or feel confronted, if he hits your pride or some insecurity.
He amuses himself even more if you try to hide any reaction, if you try to act indifferent or merely âprofessional.â
Lohen sees through your mask and is satisfied by being able to penetrate your social defenses.
â He questions himself deeply about why he is so interested in you if you are... Normal.
If he has to spend five more minutes observing you while you have done nothing interesting all day besides solving everyday situations, Lohen feels like he will doze off from boredom leaning against that very post.
He forces himself to leave, but it irritates him how much effort he needed to make â a part of Lohen seemed willing to suffer deep boredom in exchange for being able to continue contemplating you.
â Lohen may, until then, not have gone after you; he believes he has no reason to distract himself with you and these feelings while there is an entire world of enemies to hunt out there.
â Please, let a romantic interest appear in your life. Lohen will love having a ârivalâ to compete against.
It certainly would not be a competition to win you over â not directly, not intentionally.
Maybe he does not have much to do at first, especially if the guy is only an ordinary civilian; but things change in tone if that guy joins the Knights of Favonius: Lohen will certainly have a new target to experiment with.
â (The deepest part of him wishes that you would see and witness his true personality in action, at its peak â and not run away. However, this early on, he does not want to scare you)
Lohen will play with you and test you, and infiltrate your life without formally asking permission, but every step is calculated, both in how much he shows you and in how much he allows you to see.
â You will know that Lohen has a different or exclusive interest in you when you notice that he always opens doors for you when he has the chance.
But only for you.
Any other person who comes right after you, Lohen pretends not to have seen: he closes the door immediately â and, depending on who it is, he may still make an ironic comment about that person not paying attention or not having enough reflexes to deal with a door.
At that moment, the smile he gives you is gentle. And when he opens his eyes as he turns his back and leaves, the reddish glow in his irises is intense enough to cause a shiver of worry in your conscience â it is like the gaze of a beast circling its prey in the middle of the night, undecided whether such interest is hunting instinct from hunger or a threatened ego.

It had been approximately seven days since you made accidental eye contact with a hare. Coincidentally, it had been approximately seven days since you were last able to catch a break.
âToo slow!â Lohen exclaimed. âSeriously, Bunny, try a little harder, wonât you?â
Your head whipped around desperately, trying to find the inconspicuous hareâs voice within the dense woods surrounding you. The floppy set of bunny ears on your head were no match for those of Lohenâsâa pair of hare ears that stood straight and were able to detect sound like no other. Feeling your heart pound against your ribcage, you were entrapped by the dire sensation of fight or flight. To run meant to invite him to chase, but to fight was certainly going to end in disaster. What was there for you to do other than to stand paralyzed, unsure of when or how Lohen was going to torment you this time?
âBoo!â
You screamed when you heard his voice, and with a maniacal laugh, he barreled into you. The momentum of your collision sent you both tumbling across the earthen ground, snapping branches and crushing fallen leaves in your wake. Your head was spinning by the time you stopped, that frustrating hare pinning you to the ground beneath him with a cocky grin on his face. You could already feel the bulge in his trousers, pressing into you as he leaned closer.
âYouâre terrible at this,â he said, laughing. âCanât you make the hunt a little more fun?â
âNo!â you replied in a sputter. âI didnât agree to it in the first place!â
âYou think youâre gonna be agreeing to it if some other hare catches a whiff of you? If anything, you should be thanking me. Itâs great training.â
Your chest heaved with erratic breaths. Staring up into his crimson eyes, your legs squirmed around his hips, heels digging into the mossy ground. Lohen watched you with his shiteating grin, letting you rut against him as your instincts overwhelmed your sensibilities. Rather whiny about it, you wailed, âWhat kind of mate are you?!â
âOh, so now Iâm your mate.â
âYouâre the one who went and decided it!â you sputtered. âBe responsible for your actions!â
âI didnât decide anything. All I said was that youâre a bunny and Iâm a hare. Itâs literally in our nature to fuck like crazy, so why not fuck each other?â His teeth peeked through his grin, one of his tall hare ears twitching as if it were nodding in agreement. âLess risky that way, yeah?â
You fervently shook your head. âDonât talk to me about risk! Youâve put my life in danger for your ego ten times already!â
âHey, heyâIâd never put you in danger,â he replied stubbornly. âI just use you to attract danger. I love messing with those horny rabbits that come running after you. Itâs great entertainment. But,â he said, eyes twinkling, âIâd never let them touch a hair on your pretty little head, Bunny.â
âSo then why do I have to train for it?!â you whined. âIf youâre going to handle them anyway, then cut the theatrics and fuck me when I ask you to!â
âJeez,â Lohen said, wincing. âSomeoneâs needy. To think just yesterday you smacked me for grabbing your ass.â
âYou grabbed my ass in public!â you growled. âAt work! In front of so many knights!â
âSo? How else are they gonna know youâre mine?â
âYou are so irritating!â
Your nails clambered for purchase along his shoulders, your hips humping against the curve of his lap. Wetness spread through your undergarments, soaking into the crotch of his pants as you repeatedly mashed yourself into him. Lohen watched you struggle, snickering as he saw fit.
How did you even end up like this? You were simply a new addition to the Knights of Favoniusâs ranks, and not even as a member of the militia force. Your role was one that was both simple and safe, a career path that your parents had always desired for you. Your mother had warned you time and time again that a good bunny remained out of the line of fire, kept her head down, and did not get entangled with hares.
âLohen,â you were whining, tears streaming down your cheeks. Your cunt throbbed, your hips flailing up against his. âPlease, I need you.â
âOh? âNeedâs a strong word, Bunny.â
âYou motherfucker,â you gasped, nails digging into his coat. âDo you want me to beg? Is that it?â
He snorted. âI think youâre begging plenty already, Bun. Iâm just taking in the view, you know?â
âNgh,â you grunted, hinging your knee forward, then back. Again, you pressed your crotch to his, and your leg moved with a mind of its own, your foot stomping into the ground beneath you. You pressed your eyes shut, feeling a shamed heat spread through your neck and into the tops of your cheeks. Your leg jerked repeatedly, and as your stomping grew faster, Lohen only laughed. Leaning his mouth down to your jaw, his voice ghosted hot across your chin.
âYouâre so cute when you start thumping, Bun,â he purred in a low, rumbling voice. âAlmost makes me wanna fuck you.â
You thumped your foot again, your heart pounding ten times as hard. Letting out a series of embarrassing, dissatisfied grunts, you wriggled beneath Lohen, your animal instincts flaring through your core. Slick upon slick upon slickâyou were far too ready for him, but just like a troublesome hare, Lohen did not abide you. Your nails clawed at the fabric of his cape, tears budding the corners of your eyes when your angered grunts mixed with needy whimpers.
What would your parents think if they could see you now? What would your mother; the woman who warned you about hares since you were a child; say, were she privy to how attached you had become to one? You were supposed to be your parentsâ golden bunny, yet here you wereâlaying on the forest floor with a hare on top of you, pleading for him to fulfill your carnal desires.
The worst part was that you didnât care. Let your parents weep over their disappointment of a daughter. Whenever this hare set his hands on you, you felt alive.
âPlease,â you were whispering, high-pitched and breathy. âLohen, please, Iângh.â Another involuntary thump of your foot. âI want you.â
He chuckled against the soft of your floppy ear. Giving you a playful nibble, he whispered, âGood job, Bun. I think I like the sound of that a little better.â
You exhaled, your breath shaking as it exited your throat. Lohen reached down to his hip, and when you heard the unmistakable sound of his zipper, you whined his name. He glanced at you with those gorgeous red eyes of his, the ones that had gotten you so whipped for him in the first place, and gave you a smirk so coy, you could die for him right then and there.
It wasnât the fact that he was a hare that had you so entranced by him. It was the fact that that hare was Lohen.
âLift up for me?â he asked, giving your legs the lightest of touches. You moved in accordance with him, and as he guided you through it, he said, âUh-huh, like that.â
His teeth poked through his charming smile. Eyes roaming the length of your body, Lohen purred, âGood girlâŠyouâre so flexible.â
Your knees quivered by your head. Truly, you werenât built to bend or twist like this, but for Lohen, you would try.
âSo pretty,â he murmured, his hands stroking the backs of your upturned thighs. His eyes were trained on your cunt, a flush of red decorating his grinning face. âAre you as wet as I think you are, Bun?â
Desperately, you nodded.
He relinquished a close-lipped laugh. âGuess Iâll have to be the judge of that.â
The sensation of his hot glans against your slick folds sent you curving back into the moss. You reached for your knees, keeping them held back for him, even though your body burned from the strain of it. Making sounds that youâd rather die than hear when you werenât in a mating state, your toes curled into your flailing feet.
âYouâre thumping the air, Bun,â Lohen said, like it wasnât already obvious. He continued to smear himself up and down the length of your cunt, providing barely enough stimulation to suppress your feral urges. You recalled how full he made you feel, every single night over the past seven days of knowing him, and grunted pitifully.
Hares were generally larger than bunniesâfaster and far more powerful, too. Maybe that was why you were so attracted to Lohen, who was lithe like a bunny on the surface, yet so unmistakably hare below the belt. The stretch of his tip against your hole, teasing you, had you sobbing.
âFuckâme,â you choked out, trying to thump, thump, thump. âLohen, please. Do something useful, please.â
His sly grin fell from his face. Staring down at you with an open mouth, he began to pant into the air, his ears twitching erratically. Watching your face still, he rubbed his beading head against your sensitive clit, and in a murmur, said, âI wanna breed you so bad.â
That was the thing about hares and bunniesâthey both had an insatiable desire to fuck, fuck, fuckâbut they werenât compatible for breeding. That was why bunnies like you were taught to be wary of hares like Lohen, with their silver tongues and promises of sweet nothings. Your whole life, you had been taught that a hare only wanted one thing from a bunny, and that was to use her as he saw fit.
âBun,â Lohen said, red-faced and gasping. âI wanna breed.â
You couldnât, and yetâ.
âPut it in,â you gasped back. âLohen, if you want to breed, you have to put it in.â
He let out an odd, strangled noise. Maybe he appreciated the fact that you didnât point out the obvious, or maybe he was getting influenced by your own state of need. Whatever the case, Lohenâs thick head sank right into your dripping hole, and with a gradual push of his hips, you were full of him.
Were you crying? Were you calling his name? Or were you praying to the Archons above for forgiveness?
âHow do youâ,â Lohenâs breath hitched. âHow do you want me, Bun?â
âHard,â you slurred. âHard, Lohen, hard.â
His boots shuffled across the grassy forest floor. Half-squatting over you, Lohen placed his hands to the back of yours, helping you keep yourself ever so delicately folded in half for him. After a glance at you, assessing your comfort level no doubt, he quickly smacked his pelvis to yours.
You were flailing again, your throat hoarse from your cries. Slowly, Lohenâs girth retreated within you, and right when you were just a touch from empty, it shoved into you all at once all over again.
âLohen,â you were sobbing, your nails digging into your own flesh. âLohen.â
âBun,â he panted back. âYouâreâŠso fuckinâ tight.â
The slam of his hips punctuated his sentence. This was almost too much for you.
âFuck, IâŠâ Lohen hissed aloud. âI want to breed so bad, Bun. Fuck a bunny rightâŠinto you.â
With each final word, came another forceful pound of his dick inside of you. Your lower lip was quivering from your sobs and whines, and when Lohen noticed, he squeezed his hands around yours, hesitating.
âHow do you want me?â he asked tenderly.
âHarder,â you choked. âEven harder.â
Lohen held you midair. It was unfathomable, how quickly he could fuck you while also supporting all of your body weight in those lean arms of his. You had never doubted Lohenâs strength, but it was times like these that reminded you just how lucky you were to have a hare like him.
Your back was pressed to a nearby tree trunk, giving Lohen the leverage to grunt by your ear. The way he chuffed and whined, nuzzling against your floppy ear with lustful fervor all the while, made your mind feel fuzzier than the ears atop his head. The pound of his hips was relentless, reminiscent of a hare in rut, and as the wet slaps of his body against yours filled the air around you, you worried for a moment that you may attract the attention of any keen-nosed rabbits who happened to wander by.
âBunny,â Lohen was gasping. âYour pussy feels so good.â
What could you do in response to that, other than grab a fistful of his hair and wail? His breath hitched against your sensitive ear, and in a growling voice, he asked, âYou gonna take it?â
Yes, yes, yesâof course you would.
âHow much?â
All of it. All of it.
Lohen laughed, that giggle slowly turning into a hot moan. Pounding you so fast that you werenât sure your womb would make it through this, he dug his teeth into your neck and groaned.
âBunny,â he mumbled through mouthfuls of your skin, sharp pain mixing with sweet pleasure. âI wanna give you a hare that looks just like you.â
Why did your eyes bud with tears, when you thought about the impossibility of it?
âFuck, Bun,â Lohen gasped, fucking you so hard your back shifted up the tree with each thrust. âYouâd be such a good mom.â
âPlease stop,â you sobbed, your nails clambering for purchase in the flesh of his shoulders. âLohen.â
âYouâre gonna give me what I want,â he whispered, the bridge of his nose ghosting against yours, âwonât you, Bun?â
You biologically couldnât. You knew you couldnât.
âYes,â you whined anyway, throbbing and clenching around his plunging dick. âI will.â
His eyes widened. A shadow of darkness cast across his face, and in a soft, tiny whisper, he said, âThank you.â
His mouth was on yours before you could think to respond. He kissed you hard, filling your mouth with the taste of mint bubblegum, a silly habit of his that you had found quite bunny-like for a hare, but was quickly becoming one of your favorite parts of him. Stretching your arms around his neck, you pulled him in close, the taste of your salty tears dancing between your clashing mouths. There was euphoria, there was longing, and there was a gnawing ache within youâthe pain spurred from your inability to meet your mateâs needs.
If only you were a hare, like him. Strong like him, fast like him, able to keep up with his every move the way he was able to keep up with yours. Maybe then things wouldnât be so hard for you. Maybe Lohen would be happier.
âI love you,â he said when your lips parted, his cheeks as crimson as those sweet eyes of his.
Your lower lip trembled.
âFuck,â he spat, his eyes fluttering shut. âHere you go, Bunny.â
Dear Gods, this was what you needed. To feel him pumping you full, filling your womb with every last drop of his love for you. To cum from the pure stimulation of his affections; gasping, hot, and blinding; knowing that even if his seed would never take, he loved you.
âGood girl,â Lohen whispered fiercely, pressing his lips to your forehead. âReally good girl.â
âI love you,â you whined back, hiccuping through your sobs. âI wish I could be a mom for you.â
âHey, hey, itâs okay. Donât cry over it, Bun.â He smiled, his eyes softening. âYou know I was just saying things, right? I donât want you to stress over it.â
âI just,â you croaked, âwant to give you what you want.â
ââŠYou really do love me.â
You nodded. Lohen chuckled.
âWell. Iâm glad you picked me, Bun.â
Your hands smoothed out around his shoulders. He leaned in so close, his smiling lips brushed yours.
âYou can do it,â he crooned. âIâll just fuck you until you can. Sound good?â
You smiled, laughing in spite of your tears. Nodding, you said, âThat sounds wonderful, Lohen.â
âOne more time then?â
âOne moreâtime!â
Leaning your head against the pine-scented bark, you offered your prayers to Celestia. Once more, your favorite hare began another passionate attempt to complete you, and you couldnât have been more enamored with him if you tried.
Sure, you may have been a bad daughter. Disobedient and unwise. But whenever Lohen touched you, you never felt anything but the love between you. If that was so wrong, then you didnât mind being bad at all.
synopsis: lately, Varka has noticed that something's not quite right with his two vice captains â and he is determined to find out what.
before you read: lohen x fem!reader, vice captain of 4th company reader, brief mention of alcohol, PDA, varka cameo/pov, varka is comedic relief and sick of you & lohen's antics, lohen & reader basically ragebait varka, inspired by this fic
wc: 4.1k,,, give it a chance!!
Varka is an observant man.
That skill has helped him lead the expeditionary force that marched to the northernmost parts of Teyvat, form a temporary alliance with the Fatui Harbinger II Capitano, and cultivate the budding talents of numerous young Mondstadters like Razor and Noelle â the future of Mondstadt, heâs sure.
The Grand Master was, reputedly, a man of keen perception (well, minus the one time he overestimated his limit and drank so much he forgot why he went to visit Mavuika in the first place. Varka likes to believe that doesnât count, though).
Thatâs why it doesnât take long for him to notice when two of his vice captains begin lying to him.
Fine â he supposes âlyingâ isnât the most fair word to describe whatever the hell was going on between you and Lohen, but the Grand Master had been observing the two of you as of late, and he couldnât be more sure that his inscrutable 4th and 5th company vice captains were up to something.
For instance, Lohen â that little battle manic who rarely sought âfriendshipâ unless he intended to use it for personal gain â had begun sticking to you like a slime. Weirdly enough, you seemed to reciprocate his enthusiasm, always inviting him for a spar at The Thousand Winds Temple.
At first, Varka didn't think too much of it. Whatever, maybe you were just being polite and entertaining the young captain's antics. Or, perhaps he had bribed you with that "friendship fee" of his â that was a possibility.
However, the more time you and Lohen spent together, the more you clung to one another, creating a bond Varka couldn't seem to write down as mere "friendliness":
I.
The first time Varka felt something was off with you two occurred during a rather mundane commission. The Knights of Favonius had received news regarding a massive Hilichurl camp near Windrise; concerned about its proximity to the main city, he had ordered his most capable knights to clear out the camps with him.
The commission goes swimmingly, like it always does â that is, until he hears a pained yelp belonging to his 4th company vice captain cut through the air. Immediately, Varka swivels his head 180 degrees to the point that he almost gets whiplash, but itâs worth it, because he witnesses the most astonishing sight before him: Lohen completely abandoning the massive Mitachurl heâd been sparring (probably with delight, knowing him) to rush to your aid.
âLo,â you gasp weakly, groaning as you press a bloody palm against the gash at your waist (âLoâ? When the hell did you call that rascal such a sweet nickname?). Varka needs only to blink once before the offending monster crumbles to dust by a swift stab of Lohenâs dagger. If he didnât know any better, heâd think Lohen looked far more frightening than usual as he decimated the creature â if that was even possible, anyway.
Varka stands motionless, stunned as Lohen instantly drops to your side. The crazed look in his eyes vanishes in favor of a concerned one, and the vice captain is visibly tense as he mutters a choice of curse words before scanning your body for injuries.
âAhâŠâ Lohen sucks in a sharp breath, uncharacteristically quiet. âDo you feelâŠalright?â
You shoot him a rather unimpressed look, elbowing him in the ribs with the remaining strength you have. âDoes it look like I feel alright?â
Lohen raises both hands in surrender, shaking his head with a forced chuckle. âRight, right. Câmon, letâs get you fixed up.â
The remaining knights get the job done quickly. The entire Hilichurl camp is cleared out within seconds, but Varka cannot bring himself to care when thereâs a miracle occurring right in front of his eyes. Itâs true that despite Lohenâs usual aggressive and battle-hungry nature, the rascal had never ceased to look out for his fellow knights â but this time was different. There was surely something wrong with Lohenâs reaction today, and Varka couldnât put his finger on what it was.
He only snaps out of his trance when Lohenâs grating voice pierces the air again. âHey, Varka! Stop standing there like an idiot and get this young lady some medical aid, will ya?â
Varka grunts in response, beckoning the rest of his knights to follow. âRight,â he mutters under his breath, staring at the two of you.Â
The bane of the Grand Masterâs existence walks off with your arm around his shoulders. As Varka catches up, he could almost swear to Barbatos he hears Lohen tease: âYou seemed distracted today â thinkin' about me too much? Okay, okay, Iâm just kidding! JustâŠbe more careful next time, kay? I really donât like seeing you hurt.â
Varka shakes his head disbelievingly. Oh, yeah. Heâs absolutely keeping an eye on the both of you from now on.
II.Â
And so he does.Â
The second time Varka notices something off about you two, heâs already drunk, head warm and fuzzy from the combination of alcohol and overstimulating noise echoing through the first floor of Angelâs Share.
The beer works well to clear his mind of most worries, though not the one clear goal heâs had since that last commission: to find out exactly what was going on between you and Lohen. Tonight was the perfect chance to do so â as long as one of you gets a little drunk, he supposes â so he leans against the table to peer at you two.
To no oneâs surprise, youâre seated next to Lohen, who was nursing an apple cider in his hands. While he seemed quite awake and aware of his surroundings (much to Varkaâs displeasure), the dandelion wine in your hands had rendered you tipsy, and you were already mumbling lazily against Lohenâs shoulder.
Perfect.
Varka clears his throat loudly in hopes of catching your attention.
âUh, vice cap!â
Both you and Lohen turn your heads to face him simultaneously. That synchronism only makes Varka even more suspicious (yes, you were both vice captains, but he doesnât care. That definitely meant something), so he decides that he must start an inconspicuous conversation in an effort to dig deeper. What counts as inconspicuous, Varka doesnât really know â especially when heâs this buzzed from the beer in his tankard. Still, he knows he must try, so he blurts out the first thing that comes to mind.
âAh, Iâve gotta confess â I kinda miss the days when Jean was Acting Grand Master!â he starts, words already slurring into an aimless ramble. âI swear to Barbatos, Iâve been bombarded with reports these days! It makes me want to mysteriously disappear againâŠuh, not that Iâd want to dump all the paperwork on somebody else, of courseâŠâ
You and Lohen glance at each other, unable to hide your snickering. It makes Varka frown a bit â what was up with kids and their disrespect these days??
He does feel a bit better, though, when the two of you turn around to pay him attention once more.
âHah, I get you, Grand Masterââ you start.
âOh, she really doesââ Lohen adds, tone reeking of amusement and mockery.
You smirk, slapping the little rascalâs arm to shut him up (serves him right, Varka thinks). âNo, no, I really do. I mean, I think Iâd probably die if I had a mountain of paperwork on my desk every day. Yâknow, Grand Master, I see you hiding away in the most random places to escape your work and take a nap.â
Varka huffs in indignation, face going a bit red at being discovered by his vice captain, but you cut him off before he can say anything.
âIâm a bit envious, though,â you sigh. âI wish I could sneak away to take a nap, considering I havenât been sleeping well these daysââ
Before you can finish your sentence, though, Lohen cuts in. His words are knowing and concerned, something Varka has probably witnessed from him maybe twice in this lifetime.
âNightmares about the Wild Hunt again?â the vice captain murmurs, eyes softening in sympathy. âWas that why you were shaking in your sleep?â
You begin to nod in response, except a few seconds later, a look of realization flashes in your eyes. Varka follows your gaze as it anxiously scans across the table of fellow knights â all either too drunk or too engrossed in their own conversations to pay you and Lohen any mind.
Varka narrows his eyes. Everyone else may have missed that slip up, but he absolutely did not. He takes another swig of his beer before slamming the tankard down with a large thud. The Grand Master watches in satisfaction as you glance at him with wide eyes, visibly surprised at the sudden action.
âLohenâ, he huffs, suddenly getting a rush of liquid courage. Varka points a finger accusingly at the ranged companyâs vice captain, a victorious smirk on his lips. âTell me, how do you know what kinda dreams sheâs been having, huh?â
Unfortunately, Lohen merely returns his question with an infuriatingly innocent smile, shrugging oh so casually in response.
âHeh- Great question, Grandmaster! You see, itâs simply because weâve camped together during expeditions,â he drawls. âOur 4th company vice captain talks quite a lot in her sleep.â
Before Varka can protest, you mirror Lohenâs stupid innocent smile and cut in. âHeâs right, Grand Master. Alas, I do talk out loud in my sleep â I have some pretty vivid dreams.â You glance toward Lohen, winking at him. âThanks for putting up with my sleep talking, vice captain.â
Varka feels his right eye twitch at your unbelievable response. He looks between the two of you, opening his mouth in an attempt to complain, yet nothing comes out.
Thereâs no way heâs been conned. Again.
III.
After losing his only lead in the tavern a week ago, Varka had decided to give up and chugged 10 more beer bottles out of frustration.
If you and Lohen wanted to evade the truth, then so be it. He had far more important matters to attend to anyway â like the never-ending requisition forms currently spilling across his desk, or what to do with the poor new recruits Lohen was supposedly âtestingâ (more like torturing) with his increasingly dangerous poisoned drinks.Â
Varka sighs, shoving his chair back and beckoning Lohen to gather the stack of forms and follow him out of the office. No matter â he would deal with the little rascal later. First, there were probably four more tasks he needed to complete before sitting his vice captain down for a more serious talk about his "tactics."
Heâs mid-stride across the headquarters lobby, Lohen half a step in front of him, when he notices two familiar figures by the staircase. Varka squints. The Cavalry Captain is leaning against the railing, one arm braced on the wall beside your head. His face is far too close to yours, and Varka can't seem to put a finger on why the two of you together feels wrong.
As Kaeya notices the two men approach, the corner of his mouth quirks up, amused and expectant. He doesnât turn to look, though, gaze still trained on you.
âI never see you off duty, vice captain,â he says smoothly, regarding you with a pleasant smile. âItâs a shame, really.â
Varka hears you laugh, a sweet sound falling from your lips. In front of him, Lohen instantly stops in his tracks.
He nearly walks straight into the little rascal â Varkaâs sure he would have, if it werenât for his amazing reaction time. He shoots Lohen an exasperated look, about to tell him off, but when his eyes land on the vice captain, he realizes that Lohen isnât looking at him at all. Instead, Varka traces his icy stare to the staircase, where you were still chatting happily with the Cavalry Captain.
Ah.
He reaches out to place a soothing hand on Lohenâs shoulder, ready to stop him from whatever impulsive decision he was going to make, but the idiot was already striding toward you and Kaeya.Â
âVice captain,â Lohen greets you, voice paper thin. There's a shadow cast across his face, one that reminds Varka of the same unsettling expression he wore after returning from that underground auction. âThese requisition forms require your countersignature. Itâs urgent.â
Varka blinks, mouth falling open at the scene unfolding before him. Those forms were not urgent, relative to all his other paperwork. In fact, they werenât even meant for the 4th company. But for some odd reason, Lohen was lying to your face, right in front of the Grand Master whom those papers belonged to.
You tilt your head questioningly, as if beckoning him to explain, but Lohen doesnât bother to wait. He casually steps between you and Kaeya, making sure to completely block the Cavalry Captain from your view, before handing you the stack of forms in his hands.
Varka doesnât miss the way Lohenâs fingers brush against yours for a second too long.
The sound of Kaeyaâs chuckle snaps Varka out of his trance, and he finally manages to pick his jaw back up. He watches as the Cavalry Captain pushes off the wall, hands raised in mock surrender.Â
âAh, business calls. Expected nothing less from the ever busy young lady."
It isnât until Lohen has herded you up the stairs, palm pressed insistently against your lower back, that Kaeya spares Varka a glance. Thereâs an amused glint in his eyes, as if he knows something the older man doesnât.
âForms,â he chuckles to himself, tasting the word on his tongue. The captainâs tone reeks of mockery. âHow dreadfully urgent.â
Varka opens his mouth â to say what exactly, he didnât know â but Kaeya was already strolling up the stairs, throwing a couple of words over his shoulder.Â
âSheâs very lucky. Donât you think, Grand Master?â
Varka exhales slowly, not knowing whether to feel absolutely infuriated or exhilarated. There was no way in Teyvat he was getting any paperwork done after that â but perhaps his lead from last week hadnât disappeared after all.
IV.Â
In the next few days, Varka forced himself into work. For the sake of productivity, he desperately tried not to recall Lohenâs icy stare at the Cavalry Captain, or the way youâd let yourself be led away by the man without a single protest. Anyone could tell he had failed, though, by the stacks of unfinished papers still spread across his desk.
At least heâs learned something useful from the ordeal: it seemed that if Celestia wished to grant him more evidence of you and Lohenâs weirdness around each other, then it would do so during the most random, mundane, and totally unsuspicious moments of the day. Alas, there was no further point in lurking around the 4th and 5th companyâs offices. Heâs sure he wouldâve accidentally walked in on you and Lohen making out, anyway.
Varka shakes his head in horror. Yeah â heâd rather not imagine that.
-
Ugh.Â
The Grand Master groans, pinching the bridge of his nose as he walks into the mess hall. Itâs only dawn, yet Jean had sternly insisted that he begin todayâs work early. Varka supposes it was his own fault. After all, he clearly wasnât disciplined enough to stop thinking about the past daysâ events, resulting in more than usual leftover work. Still, he thinks he deserves some leniency considering the things he has witnessed.
Varka reaches for the coffee pot, grumbling to himself about how unfair everything was. Heâs about to pour a cup for himself until suddenly, he hears familiar voices drifting from the kitchen.
He pauses. That was your voice. It was a tad sleepy and exasperated, yet no doubt belonged to his 4th company vice captain.
And right after that was definitely Lohenâs low rumble in response, though Varka couldnât exactly make out the little rascalâs words.
Carefully, Varka sets down the coffee pot and begins creeping toward the kitchen doorway. He feels like a criminal about to commit atrocious sins â he really hopes there's no one else in the mess hall witnessing the embarrassment he's making of himself. Back pressed against cold marble, his head peeks out from behind the wall.Â
You were at the stove with a spatula in hand, hair still a little mussed from sleep. Lohen doesnât seem to mind, though, as he leans against the counter beside you. Heâs slouched over, shoulder brushing against yours as he greedily takes up your personal space. You donât seem to mind that, either.
âStop staring,â you huff, without sparing Lohen a glance. âGo make yourself useful and grab the plates.â
However, Lohen doesnât move an inch. If anything, he seems to shuffle even closer to you, voice lazy and amused as he responds: âHey, donât be so mean! I just like watching you.â
You fake gag at his response, but thereâs an evident smile tugging at the corner of your lips â Varka could see that much from the doorway. âYouâre insufferable.â
âYouâve mentioned.â
You shake your head and lift a spoon from whatever was sizzling in the pan, holding it out toward Lohen. The vice captain leans down, making a show of slowly taking the silverware into his mouth. You look at him weirdly, but he only flashes you a cheshire grin as he pulls back to lick his lips.
âVery good, as always! But more salt.â
You sigh, raising an eyebrow at him. âYou always say that. Do you just like the taste of overwhelming saltiness or something?â you deadpan. âActuallyâŠdonât answer that, you freak.â
Lohen laughs. âYes. But I also say that because you always undersalt.â
âI do notââ
âYou do,â he replies smoothly. The ease and certainty with which Lohen insists on this makes Varka suspect that the two of you have had this argument more than just once or twice.
You turn to glare at him, raising your spatula like a weapon. Lohen looks obviously amused at your crazed appearance, not at all concerned about your supposed threat.
âYou bastard, Iâve never undersalted your foodââ
Lohen smirks, reaching up to wipe something from the corner of your lip. Varka canât tell what it is exactly, but what he can tell is that you freeze mid-sentence, voice faltering to nothingness. Instead of dropping his hand back to his side, Lohen shifts it down, cupping your jaw gently. He tilts your chin up so youâre forced to meet his gaze, already looking way too happy with himself.
âWhat were ya saying, now?â
â...stop trying to distract me,â you mumble, but your voice had gone noticeably breathier, like the movement had completely stolen the air from your lungs.
âWell, is it working?â
You donât reply, instead turning back to the stove, but thereâs an obvious flush creeping up your neck from where Varka stands. Lohenâs hand casually falls to your lower back as he leans around you to grab the salt shaker himself.Â
âNo worries, Iâll just do it myself,â he hums.
âWhatever,â you sigh. âYou always end up doing it yourself, anyway. Picky, arenât you?â
Varka bites hard on his tongue, forcing himself not to make a noise somewhere between awe and frustration. Oh, you liars. He was so going to station you in Brightcrown Mountains, as far away as possible from Dornman Port.
V.
In the following week, Varka continued to witness a rinse and repeat of these much-too-friendly interactions. By this point, he was 99.99% sure that the two of you were together â how could you not be? Sure, the Grand Master had nothing concrete, but heâd collected all the circumstantial evidence possible throughout the past month.
It was rather irksome.
He has to remind himself that you two are fully competent adults by now. If you wanted to keep your lives private, it was absolutely your right. Still, having known you and Lohen for the years that he did, Varka couldnât help but suspect that you two were doing this on purpose â mocking and taunting him with these displays of affection while offering nothing absolute. It was you and Lohen, for Barbatosâs sake. If the two of you werenât intentionally irritating him, then pigs could fly.
The matter was so irritating that after a particularly long meeting with Jean at the headquarters, Varka decided to take a walk through the garden courtyard. It was the perfect chance to clear his head before bed after that dual headache, he tells himself. A beautiful view and no one to pester him about the never-ending paperwork and two lying vice captains.
Varka rounds the corner, sighing softly as his gaze catches the familiar sight. The small courtyard is bathed in silver moonlight, fountain murmuring quietly at the center. The low hedges cast soft shadows against the stone walls, providing a sort of comfort to the exhausted man.
A beautiful view and no one to pester him. At least, thatâs what the walk should have been â because he suddenly recognizes two very familiar people in the garden.
Youâre pressed against the base of the windmill just beside the fountain, Lohenâs body caging you in. Neither of you seem to notice the Grand Master â considering that Lohenâs faced the opposite way and completely obstructing your view of anything else but him â but the two of you probably wouldnât have noticed him anyway. Not when the little rascal was kissing you like a man starved, your hands tangled in his hair and pulling his body flush against yours.
Varkaâs first instinct is to turn 180 degrees and run for his life, but his feet stay stubbornly rooted to the ground. His eyes take in details heâd rather not remember, like how Lohen has one hand braced against the wall beside your head, the other wrapped firmly around your waist. Heâs pulled you in so close that there's not a breath of space between you two â Varka doesnât remember the last time heâs seen Lohen look so starved for anything that wasnât battle or bloodshed.
Boldly, you pull at the roots of his hair. Varkaâs sure the little freak groaned at that, but even if he did, the Grand Master wouldnât know. He wouldnât know because it wouldâve been covered by the rather loud and startled noise that leaves his lips at the sight.
Lohen goes completely still against you. Varka has to swallow his pride as he awkwardly shuffles in place, grimacing when the vice captain turns to meet his gaze.
âIââ he starts, voice uncharacteristically meek. âThis isnâtâ I wasnâtââ
Lohenâs expression doesnât change, remaining completely unreadable. Varka thinks his vice captain is probably about to chop him to bits with that dagger, until he hears another voice ring out.
âAh, Grand Master.â
It's your voice, light and amused and clearly not angry with him. You peek out from behind Lohenâs shoulder, shooting Varka a delighted grin.
âGrand Master," Lohen echoes, lips twitching into the barest hint of a smirk.
âDonât âGrand Masterâ me like that,â Varka grunts, pointing a finger at his ranged company vice captain. âY-you knew I was here?â He doesnât even wait for a response, gaze snapping to yours. âAnd you? You knew I was here too?"
You bite your lip, expression far from guilt or embarrassment. In fact, you were trying not to laugh, cheeks puffing out and stomach twitching in an attempt to hold back the high-pitched noises already seeping through your lips.
âWe heard you,â you admit, a giggle escaping despite your efforts. âYour footsteps are quite loud, Grand Master.â
âYouâre really not as sneaky as you think you are,â Lohen adds helpfully.
Varkaâs face goes redder than it does after drinking a tankard of beer. Heâs sputtering, opening and closing his mouth like a fish out of water.
âUgh...donât tell me the two of you knew I was going insane and were taunting me on purpose,â he groans. âThough I have a suspicion Iâm right about that, unfortunately..."
The two of you glance at each other, amusement written all over your faces. Lohenâs smirking ever so casually, scanning his surroundings as if this situation is of zero importance to him â itâs so infuriating that it makes Varka want to punch him and wipe that smirk off of his face.
âOops,â you reply, clearly not very sorry about the month of torture youâve given him.Â
âIt was just too good of an opportunity to pass up,â Lohen shrugs. âMight even be better than seeing you fall into the traps I dug, Grand Master.â
If Varka were a tea kettle, heâs sure he wouldâve had steam rising from his head by now. Heâs at an utter loss for words, mouth opening and closing but nothing coming out â Barbatos, what did he do to deserve such horrible vice captains? The Grand Master huffs in exasperation, turning on his heel and walking away as fast as he can.
âIâm stationing you two on opposite ends of Mondstadt,â he throws over his shoulder indignantly. âAnd donât even think about going on an expedition together again. I know you rascals are sneaking into each othersâ tents at night!â
âWha- Grand Master!âÂ
Varka is an observant man, after all.

Lohen was, in many respects, a master of combat. His prowess with the lance could not be debated, lest one wanted to find themselves staring down the mist-shrouded tip of his spear. While he was exceedingly strong, he also harbored a skillset that was incredibly flexible; allowing him to impart on missions of espionage, intel-gathering, and enemy supply chain disruptions with practiced ease.

Pft. Talk about easy. No problemo. Certainly not a difficult task at all.
âHello, Vice Captain,â you said, your eyes trained on his without a shred of hesitation. âCan I help you find something?â
âFind something?â he replied, blinking. Then, with a start, âOh, you mean, likeâŠlike a book, right?â
You blinked. âEr, yes. This is a library, soâŠâ
He heard the lilting of Lisaâs laughter behind him, but when he whipped around to glare at her, she casually strode out of earshot. Her heels clicked into the upper floor, punctuating Lohenâs excruciatingly long, stifling silence.
His plan had been simple: walk into the library and just talk to you. He figured the rest would come naturally, like how his instincts took hold of him in the middle of a fight, telling him how to move, and when to do it. Lohen was not a coward, and he wasnât scared of you, so talking to you should have been easy. Light work. As simple as breathing.
Still, he was fumbling.
âA book,â he said, one corner of his mouth curling up in an awkward smile. âI mean, I donâtâŠI donât really read, soâŠI dunno.â
Fuck, fuck, fuckâwhy was that the best he could manage? Why did he sound like such a bumbling idiot?
Your expression turned grave. Clutching your book to your chest, you said, âPlease donât tell me youâre here to pull a prank on me. Or to poison me. Or whatever else it is that you torment the others with.â
âWhat?â he asked, wincing. âNo, Iâm not here for that. Trust meâif I wanted to poison you, youâd be vomiting your guts out in medical by now!â
He laughed, but you didnât. Perhaps he had stuck his foot in his mouth with that one, because you withdrew even further into yourself, your jaw unhinged. Your eyes were flicking between him and the staircase, like you were trying to find a route for escape.
While he kinda didnât mind that, it definitely wasnât his intention. Snapping his cackling maw shut, he felt his throat squeeze.
âA book,â he sputtered. âIâm here for a book.â
âOâŠkayâŠâ you replied slowly. âUmâŠwhat kind of bookâŠ?â
(Think, Lohen, think. You havenât read anything since your parents forced those fairytale books on you when you were a kid. If you go saying something like âThe Belle and the Behemothâ, sheâll laugh at you. That wouldnât be cool at all, so think, goddammit, think. Something cool!)
âSex,â he blurted. âA book about sex. âCause Iâm, likeâŠthe sex master. Yeah.â
You looked embarrassed. âIâmâŠafraid we don't have any books like that here, Vice CaptainâŠâ
âOh.â He crossed his arms over his chest, pensive. What else was he a self-proclaimed master of? âMurder?â
âAre you referring to murder mystery novels?â
âHuh? No, like, a book on murder. As in, how to do it. Preferably detailing various methods.â
You winced. âWe donât have books like that eitherâŠâ
âWhat?â he replied, one eye twitching. âHow boring. What the hell do you guys even have, then?â
âUm, normal books?â You flipped the book in your grasp around, showing him the title. âFor example, this is a fictional novel titled Fateâs Glimmer. It's the long-awaited series of an Inazuman author whoâs been quite popular in Mondstat as of late. Itâs new, so I ordered it to be expressly delivered from Yae Publishing House, and Iâ. Um.â
You hesitated, your eyes falling to your desk. Repeatedly, you tapped your thumbs together over your bridged hands.
âSorry, Iâm oversharing. And we honestly have more nonfiction than fiction, soâŠI probably should have started with that.â
Halfway through your ramble, Lohenâs heart had started to act up. It was pounding like it did when he was on the battlefield, cutting down foe after foe with each swing of his lanceânot like he was attempting to communicate with a pretty girl in the Mondstat Library. Why did he feel such strain? Furthermore, why did that strain come with such joy?
He turned away from you, a light touch of warmth settling across his face. He lifted a finger, pointing at the book in your hands. âDo youâŠhave any other copies of that one?â
âOfâŠof Fateâs Glimmer? YouâŠwant to read it?â
He chanced a glance back your way, but he really shouldnât have. You were beaming from ear-to-ear, your teeth poking through your radiant smile, and with your big, shimmering eyes, you said, âI actually ordered two copies! Just in case anyone else wanted to read it at the same time as me! Itâs really good, I swear!â
He was having palpitations. Stammering through his sentence, he replied, âU-um, I, uh, yeah! Yeah, IâŠdefinitely wanna read that. Fateâs ShimmerâŠor whatever it is.â
âGlimmer,â you corrected him, still smiling. âHere, Iâll check out a copy for you right now. Do you have your Knightsâ ID on you?â
âUh, yeah. Here.â
The way your fingers brushed his sent a chill down his spine. Odd, considering that he was rarely susceptible to the cold.
âHere you are, Vice Captain,â you said, holding out a thick book between both hands. âYouâll have to swing by from time to time and let me know what you think of it.â
Swing by from time to time? Wait, did that mean you wanted to see him again? Waitâthat meant you were totally into him, werenât you?
âHeh.â Lohen cracked a grin. âGuess Iâll come by again later, then. Since you asked, and all.â
âThat would be wonderful! Iâm so curious to hear your thoughts on Act OneâŠthereâs such a massive cliffhanger at the end of it! Ah, but I wonât spoil anything.â You smiled, your long lashes fluttering over your bright eyes. Ever so cutely, you said, âCome back soon, wonât you, Vice Captain?â
Lohen was deceased where he stood.
Another routine patrol in Windrise had somehow led him straight into youâand the pack of hilichurls encroaching upon you.
You yelped as you scrambled backwards across the grassy field, your novel splitting open beside you. There was fear in those eyes of yours, which took in the horde before you like they were harbingers of doom. The vision on your hip glinted in the sunlight, but for some reason, you were far too petrified to make use of your only weapon. Ordinarily, a sight like yours would have annoyed Lohen more than anythingâwhat a weak womanâbut something about the situation felt just right.
With a chuckle, he crossed the field, brandishing his lance before him. One stroke annihilated the hilichurl in front of you. The second struck the two flanking the first. And on the last stroke, hilichurl blood sprayed into the void, both archers befelled by a single strike. Such easy, light work, yet you werenât even capable of it. Surely youâd look upon him with admiration, as the valiant knight who came to your rescue.
âGood thing I got here before things took a turn for the worse!â he chirped, pushing his hair back with a rake of his hand. âNot that I would have minded getting the chance to see you beg and plead for your life.â
You gawked at him, your eyes wide. He blinked, his chuckles dying in the wind.
âWhat?â he asked. âItâs not an insult. I meanâŠyouâd probably look good doing it.â
His face burned, but your silence persisted. You had the same look in your eyes that you had worn when the hilichurls ambushed you, but this time, it was directed at him. Lohen watched as you scrambled further backwards, your dress skirts dragging along the grass beneath you.
âI-Iâm not a strong person, you know?!â you squeaked. âEven if you try threatening meâŠI doubt I could give you the kind of fight youâd enjoy!â
âWhâ? Iâm not threatening you! Iâm giving you a compliment!â
âPlease!â you wailed, your hands pressed to your head, tucking your face towards your knees. âI just wanted to read in peace!â
âWhat are you getting all freaked out for?â Lohen scoffed. âThe hilichurls are dead! Now you can read Fateâs Shimmer all you want.â
âGlimmer!â
âEr, yeah. That.â He lifted his hand to the back of his neck, rubbing awkwardly. âJeezâŠwould it calm you down if I told you I read the first couple of chapters?â
Immediately, your head sprung up from your hiked knees. Your eyes were wide, and in only a second, it was as though you had no recollection of the panicked state you were in before. You scooped your book out of the grass, smiling from ear to ear, and patted the space beside you.
He looked from your hand to your face repeatedly. Jubilant, you said, âSit down, then! I want to hear what you think about it so far.â
âWhâŠhuh?â He pressed his pointer finger to his chest. âYou want meâŠto sit with you?â His eyes flicked upwards. âUnder thisâŠgiant tree? WithâŠwith all the crystalflies floating around and everything?â
âWhy, itâs the best place to sit in all of Mondstat. Itâs perfect for readingâand for discussions about what weâve read.â
The way you smiled was wrapping his throat tighter than the choker around his neck. He pulled at it a bit, and blamed the heat bathing his cheeks on the blazing sun overhead. Perhaps in response to his desperation, he was blessed by an incoming bout of pure anemo.
Dandelion spores washed through the air. They danced along the wind, and as they floated around your face, surrounding you like a feathery halo, you grinned with your teeth and laughed.
His heart was doing that irrational pounding again. Like he hadnât just fought some low-level churls. Like he was in Nod-Krai, fighting with Varka and the others, half-conscious and two wrong steps away from death.
A spore flew into Lohenâs nose.
âAchoo!â
His shoulders jerked with his sneeze. He sniffled, rubbing his finger under his dripping nose, and you ever so sweetly said, âBless you.â
He was suffocating and suffering cardiovascular collapse at the same time. Ironically, it felt kinda good.
âCome on,â you said, your hand still extended beside you. âSit with me, wonât you, Vice Captain?â
He swallowed.
âJust call me Lohen.â
He wasnât expecting to come across you in Varkaâs office of all places.
ââplease?â you were saying when Lohen opened the door. âI really want to see the flora for myself! It would help me visualize it so much better!â
Varka was grimacing. When he and Lohen met eyes, the Grand Master perked up and lifted a hand in greeting.
âHey, Lohen!â he exclaimed. âYou actually came like I asked you to! Good job, sport!â
Lohen rolled his eyes, but he was more focused on you than Varka. You were wringing your hands together, your shoulders rife with tension. Just like always, you had that thick novel of yours at your hip.
âSorry,â you said. âI know youâre busy, Varka. Itâs a silly request anyway, so Iâll just go.â
âWait,â Lohen said, turning to track you as you made for the door. âLibrary girl. What were you two talking about?â
He didnât really care that you had made a request of Varka and not of him, but he still wanted to know. For some reason.
âOh, IâŠâ You looked back at Varka, then at Lohen. Shaking your head, you said, âDonât worry about it, Vice Captain. It sounds like you two have a pre-arranged meeting, soâŠI wonât interrupt you.â
âThe meeting can wait,â Lohen said, following you out the door (which prompted a loud âHey!â from Varka). âAnd didnât I tell you to just call me Lohen?â
âYouâŠdid,â you mumbled. âSorry, Iâm just not used to it. I never really call anyone by name.â
His brows furrowed. âBut you just called the Grand Master âVarkaâ.â
âUm. Yes.â
You continued pacing towards the library, and blatantly on the pursuit, Lohen followed you. As you both crossed the headquarterâs main foyer, one behind the other, Lohen could feel the stares and hear the whispers.
âShould we help herâŠ?â someone mumbled.
Ignoring them, Lohen asked, âWhy are you running away from me?â
âIâm not,â you said, but the way your shoulders were up by your ears as your heels played staccato beats across the floor told a different story. âIâm just getting back to work.â
Lohenâs eyes narrowed. His gaze fell to your swinging arms, and when you tried to escape behind a bookcase, he grabbed your wrist.
You stopped suddenly, turning to look at him with wide eyes. His hand burned around your wrist, like you were possessed by the power of pyro. Quickly, he released you.
â...Sorry,â he said. âSeriously, though, what were you trying to say back there? Something about flora?â
âItâs silly,â you replied quickly. âIt doesnât matter. I donât want to bug you with something like this, Vice Captainâ.â
âLohen.â
â...Lohen.â
It fell from your lips, soft. It tickled the rims of his ears. You glanced up at him, rubbing your arm.
âItâs really childish,â you said. âAnd it would be a waste of the Knights of Favoniusâs resources. I only asked Varka because I knew he wouldnât laugh at me.â
âIâm not gonna laugh at you.â
Hesitation was written clearly across your face. After a beat, you visibly swallowed.
âIâŠwant to go to Dragonspine,â you explained to him. âIâve gotten to Act Two of Fateâs Glimmer, and it takes place in a snowy region similar to it. Thereâs some descriptive bits of ecology that I canât quite picture, so I was hoping that if I went and saw itâŠI would be a little more immersed.â
Your voice fell to a mumble by the end of your sentence. Lohen raised an eyebrow.
âYou went to the Grand Master of the Knights of FavoniusâŠbecause you wanted to see flowers in Dragonspine?â
You buried your face in your palms. âThis is why I didnât want to tell you, Vice Captain.â
âStop calling me that,â he groaned. âAnd Iâm not laughing at you, am I? Iâm just trying to figure out where Varka fits into this.â He paused. âYouâŠseeing him or something?â
âHuh?â You looked up from your hands with a wince. âNo, noâwhat? Varkaâs practically like a father to me. OrâŠmaybe an older brother. Iâve known him for a long time, that's all.â
âOh. I see.â Lohen crossed his arms. âSoâŠflowers in Dragonspine. You couldnât even fight to save your life back in Windrise. Donât think much would change over some flowers.â
âThatâs why I was asking Varka,â you mumbled. âBut heâs really busy. So is Lisa. And I donât know the other knights well enough to have the courage to askâŠâ
âIâll go with you.â
Silence fell between you both. The longer you stared at him, the hotter Lohenâs face became.
âWhat, you donât want me to?â he asked. ââCause Iâm a busy guy and all, soâ.â
âNo, no!â You held your hands out, taking a step towards him. Your eyes held fast to his as you said, âIâm justâŠreally happy that you would offer.â
Someone really needed to open a window in the library or something, because all of a sudden it was stifling. Awkwardly, Lohen laughed and threw his gaze to the books that encased you.
âI just think it would be interesting,â he chattered. âSeeing you running around in the snow. Getting chased by monsters, I mean. Probably even begging me to help youâŠhahaâŠâ
Slowly, he pressed his palm to his smoldering face. The image of you running from a cryo abyss mage with your book clutched to your chest, wailing for him to save you, was a bit more enticing than he had thought it would be.
ââŠIâm so determined to go that Iâll choose to ignore that. When are you free?â
âWhen do you want to go?â he said, to the books.
âHow does tomorrow sound?â
âLohenâtomorrow I want you to lead the training exercises for the rookies in the 7th Companyâ.â
âTomorrow sounds great,â he said, waving the echo of Varkaâs voice from his mind. âYep. Iâm totally free.â
âR-really?â You were smiling again, wrecking his heart again. âThenâŠletâs go! Itâll be great for you too, so that when you get to Act Two, youâll know exactly what the flowers look like.â
Staring into your eyes, he mumbled, âYeahâŠI bet theyâre pretty.â
âMe too!â
Snapping out of his deluge, Lohen stood upright again. Taking stilted steps to face away from you, he rather stiffly said, âMeet me here at nine, then. Donât be late, or Iâll set a trap for you at every step of the way in Dragonspine. And trust meâyou wouldnât like that!â
âIâll be here,â you replied, your voice warm. âThank you again, Viceâ...Lohen.â You laughed. âThanks, Lohen.â
With his ears burning hot, he gave you a curt nod.
You stood in a field of tiny blue flowers, and with your hands cupped around a cluster of luminescent bulbs, you said, âTheyâre beautiful.â
Lohen stared after your back, watching the sway of your hair in the frigid winds. You turned to face him with a smile hotter than crimson agate, warming straight through his core when you asked, âDonât you think so, Lohen?â
â...Yeah,â he said, his eyes flicking away from yours. âReally beautiful.â
âI can see how this would have laid such a romantic scene for the main characters. As gelid as these winds are, and as withered as the trees appear to beâŠthere are still intimate spots of beauty like this.â You grinned. âItâs fascinating, isnât it?â
âMhm. Something like that.â
You laughed, kneeling down to observe the flowers. The fact that such a simple, boring thing could bring so much joy to your face was oddlyâŠhumbling. He struggled to understand whether you acted this way because of your weakness, or if finding pleasure in the banal was instead your strength.
WoooâŠ
An increasingly cold wind swept by, and by the sound of its pitch, Lohen could sense danger on the horizon. Immediately on high alert, he brandished his lance, his eyes navigating the thickening snow for the source of the threat.
âLibrary girl,â he said. âGet up.â
âHuh? Is something wrongâ?â
âOh shit,â he said, his eyes widening. âRun, run, run!â
As he tackled into you, hooking his arm under yours to pull you along, you let out a surprised yelp. The thickening snow was approaching faster, and by the timbre of the wind accompanying it, he could tell that a wave of white-out was about to occur. This far into the mountains with you, he didnât have the luxury to enjoy battling the stinging cold and burying himself out of avalanches with his bare hands. Not when you were involved.
He practically dragged you into a nearby cave, lurching into a dark and cavernous space that was just big enough for the two of you. You stumbled onto your hands and knees when he stopped, your back heaving up and down with air-starved breaths.
âYouâŠ! You run really fastâŠ!â
He winced. âEr. Sorry?â
âItâsâŠitâs okay.â You rolled over into a sitting position, sighing. âThough I canât lieâŠI nearly had a heart attack when you told me to run. Itâs not like you to sound so scared about something.â
Scared? He hadnât felt anything similar to fear in a long time. He just didnât like the thought of losing you in the middle of a snowstorm, you with your vision, which was practically just an accessory for you. A pretty one that complimented your skin, but still.
With a grunt, Lohen lowered himself to the ground beside you. Outside the hollow of the cave, the snow piled faster than torrential rain. As he watched it fall, he propped his chin in his hand. Taking a glance at you, he said, âWeâll just have to lay low for a while. Once the blizzard passes, weâll head for the foot of the mountain.â
You nodded. Content with that, Lohen turned his focus to the mouth of the cave once more.
And then it was quiet. Just you and him, sitting beside each other in the snug little cave, silent. As time stretched on, a gnawing feeling ate away at him like a munching caterpillar. He drummed his fingers against his knee, tried to focus on the petrous patterns of the walls. Anything to distract himself.
â...Phoo,â you breathed all of a sudden.
Lohen turned, and as soon as he took you in, his eyes widened. Your body was trembling as you wrapped your arms around your legs, your teeth chattering audibly against the hollow walls of the cave. He glanced at the snowstorm outside, then back at you, and acutely realized that you did not possess his nigh-invincible level of immunity to the cold.
Quietly, he slipped his coat off his shoulders, taking his cape alongside it. Quieter still, he dumped it into your lap. When you looked up at him, he tried not to return your gaze, lest the flames in his cheeks decide to smolder any hotter.
He heard the rustle of fabric. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched you lay his coat over top of yourself.
âThank you,â you murmured.
He turned his head even further, smirking at the wall. âNo big deal.â
âHow are you so unfazed by this? Itâs f-freezing.â
âUh, cryo vision, remember?â
âW-well yes, but still.â You shuddered, letting a breath out with it. âI have a vision, butâŠit doesnât make me any less sensitive to my element.â
âProbably âcause you never even use it,â Lohen drawled. Turned away from you like this, it was a bit easier to talk to you. âGot blessed by the Gods and you spend all your time reading novels. Isnât that boring?â
âHmâŠlet me ask you the same question, then. You spend all your time playing tricks on your colleagues and eliminating the enemy, yes? Donât you find it boring to not haveâŠwellâŠa real hobby?â
âHuh? Those are totally real hobbies, though.â
âIâm quite sure if we went around asking the other knights what their hobbies are,â you laughed, âthey would not include poisonings and murder. Aside from that, what do you like to do, Lohen?â
He tapped his finger against his cheek repeatedly, frowning at the wall. If you took away his tasteful pranks and his insatiable bloodlust, then he was left withâŠ
âWell,â he stammered. âUh. I guessâŠI did read a bit of that book. So reading?â
âAs happy as I am that youâve made progress, I think itâs a bit early to label that as a hobby.â
His brows furrowed. âWhat do you even consider a hobby?â
âSomething you do for fun. But, itâs also something you can do with others. Safely.â
âI always see you reading by yourself, though.â
You let out a close-lipped laugh. He heard you shuffling, then felt the warmth of your arm against his. Quickly, his head snapped to yours, and with your arms poking out through the gaps of his coat, thick novel bound to both hands, you asked, âWhy donât we read together, then?â
âWait. Slow down.â
A laugh. âYou canât handle this?â
âFuck no. Just slow down.â
Lohenâs brows were furrowed, his eyes struggling to absorb the text as fast as yours were. You laughed when you reversed the page, bringing him back to the sentence he was at before your rude interruption. He lifted his finger to the paper, mumbling the words under his breath as he searched for the right paragraph.
â...Ah,â he said. âThat one.â
âOh, thatâs when the heroine meets the male lead. You like that part?â
âWell. Kinda.â Lohen shrugged. âHeâs, like, a super cool war general, right? Stronger than a thousand troops.â
Your smile curled further upwards. âHe is. I suppose he does sound like your kind of character.â
â...Whatâs that supposed to mean?â
âNothing,â you answered. âJust that, well. Youâre an incredibly strong man yourself. In a way, you remind me of him.â
â...Oh, yeah? What kinda way?â
You blinked, and ever so quickly, snapped your head away from his. Stammering, you said, âN-nevermind.â
âHuh?â Lohen raised an eyebrow. âWaitâŠare you embarrassed?â
âNo,â you said stiffly.
He smirked. âLooks like youâre embarrassed to me. You thinking something weird about me, library girl?â
âN-no,â you repeated, shaking your head. âAnd please stop calling me library girl.â
âBut you never told me your name, library girl.â
âUgh, IâŠâ You brought a hand to your head, rubbing it furiously. âItâs because itâs embarrassing. Actually, you know what? Just keep calling me library girl.â
âWell, now I really wanna know.â He pressed closer to you, his shoulder touching yours. âWhatâs your name?â
âLibrary girl,â you mumbled.
âAs far as I can tell, this snowstorm isnât stopping any time soon. You really think you can get away with keeping your little secret until it stops?â
âI can try.â
âI doubt youâll be very successful.â
Your eyes flicked to his. He froze where he sat, realizing just how close your faces had become. This close to you, he could count each and every one of those pretty eyelashes you had, take note of the exact millimeter measurements of your round pupils.
You looked conflicted about it, but after a brief pause, you acceded to his request.
âItâs not the name I go by,â you said in a mumble. âIt just happens to be my Mondstatian one. My parents believed in Barbatosâs principle of giving children the freedom to name themselvesâŠso I was hardly old enough to speak when I picked it.â
âHm. Sounds like a bad idea.â
âIt really was. Because I was so young, I decided I wanted to be calledâŠâ
You said it, but it was in such a low mutter that he had to crane his ear closer. Brows furrowed, he said, âHuh?â
âBâŠâ You were sheepish. âBunâŠny.â
Lohenâs eyes widened.
âYouâre fucking with me.â
âThis is why I donât tell anyoneâ.â
âYou went and named yourself âBunnyâ?â he asked, snorting. âYou mean you have to sign that on your papers and everything every time you want to travel? Stamp all your official letters with it? Thatâs hilarious!â
âI know!â you complained, your brows furrowed. âYou donât have to remind me!â
âSorry, thatâs justâŠ!â He leaned his head back, laughing. âItâs just so ridiculous! I canât believe anyone would let their kid name themselves that!â
You let out a groan, plopping your face into your palms. Glaring at the mouth of the cave, you growled, âWhy did I even tell you?â
Lohenâs laughs slowed down, and with a swipe of his finger under his eyes, he brought his amused tears away. Observing your frustrated expression with a smile, he scoffed through his nose.
âOh, donât be so embarrassed about it. Everyone I know loves bunnies! Especially me.â
You shot him a look, then shuffled a touch away from him. When he realized how honestly he had spoken, his cheeks flared with warmth.
âI didnât mean it like that,â he said, the corner of his grin twitching. âDonât look at me like Iâm a weirdo.â
You shuffled even further. Obstinately, he shuffled right back next to you.
âI thought you were cold,â he said.
âIâm very much warm now, thank you.â
âThen can I have my coat back?â
â...No.â
You didnât move away from him this time. That fact alone gave him goosebumpsâand also went straight to his head.
âArenât I warm?â he murmured, ignoring the flames that erupted in his face because of it. âHuh, Bunny?â
You went ramrod stiff. He adored that.
âBunny,â he drawled. âSilence isnât exactly an answer, you know?â
âWh-what is wrong with you?â you asked. âIs thisâŠyour way of messing with me?â
âHuh. Well, I guess itâs one of the only ways I can. Youâd probably die of a heart attack if I tried anything else. You know, just like how bunnies fall over at any and everything.â
âI wish I never told you,â you said, your eyes pressed closed. âI really wish I never did.â
âDefinitely going to use it to mess with you from now on.â
âI can see that.â
He snorted. âGuess some things are better kept a secret, huh?â
You paused. Turning those eyes of yours onto his, the ones that heâd study forever if youâd let him, you softly said, âNo, itâs only fair. Itâs easier to communicate when I know your name and you know mine.â
Easier to communicate, huh?
He had only just realized it, but he was cracking jokes and talking to you like normal now. Was this sense of closeness brought on by Dragonspine, which forced even the most seasoned of adventurers to form alliances to weather its storms? Was it a fleeting moment of warmth, a kindle of flame that would extinguish underneath the thick blanket of snow as soon as you parted ways? What was this feeling in his chest that plucked his heart strings, that made him feel nothing but a hollow ache when he thought of leaving you?
â...Are you scared?â
Your voice cut through the silence. You lifted a hand, hesitated, then slowly placed it over top of his.
âWhâŠwhat,â he sputtered, his arm stiffening, âare you doing? Iâm not fucking scared. Iâm the Vice Captain of the 5th Company, remember? Iâm practically stronger than a whole platoon.â
âThis part of you reminds me of the character in the novel,â you murmured. Your hand rubbed the back of his, wringing a strangled noise from his throat. âWhen confronted with fearâŠchallenged by an invisible threat that you canât wrap your hands aroundâŠyou try to flee. Youâre not very honest with yourself, are you, Lohen?â
Your hand was on his. This was what he wanted, wasnât it? For you to touch him and talk to him like you were his? Why did he feel so bittersweet about how it was proceeding?
He blurted his thoughts as they occurred. âIâm embarrassed as shit. I was hoping this would beâŠthat Iâd be cooler. But I think Iâm gonna have a stroke if you keep touching me.â
âArenât I warm, though?â you crooned back, your mockery setting him ablaze. âHuh, Lohen?â
âFuck,â he stammered, pressing his palm to his face. âYouâre as much of a little shit as I am.â
You laughed. âThatâs a good thing then, isnât it? Maybe you and I arenât so different after all.â
Your fingers curled through the gaps of his. His shoulders jumped, but you squeezed hard.
âThanks for taking me to Dragonspine,â you said. âIt was very kind of you.â
He had no words. All Lohen could manage was a stilted nod of his head.
âWant to read some more?â you asked. âYou turn the pages this time?â
â...Sure,â he mumbled.
You brought the novel back, flipping it open and bracing it halfway on your leg, halfway on his. With your hands still joined, you used your left to manipulate the pages, and with Lohenâs right, he smoothed the bunny ear in the paper back into place.
The snow outside fell soft now, the blizzard having ended long ago. Still remaining side by side in the intimacy of that bountiful cave, you continued to enjoy each otherâs company as though you had all the time in the world.
For the first time in a long time, Lohen didnât mind taking things slow and easy. Not when it was something he could enjoy with you.
