Will the rift creatures factor into the alternate timeline at all?
This will be up to the riders!
Right now, the concept of the zine is very fluid. (Trying not to get out hopes up in case we don’t get enough interest.) From the responses we’ve received so far, the zine will cover Zonerva’s relationship leading up to Honerva’s experiments on quintessences. Once mods and contributors are selected, there will be a brainstorming session to figure out these details.
Is this zine strictly VLD Zonerva family?
VLD Zonerva family will be the main focus, but other characters are definitely encouraged to be brought in!
What happened with Allura since she was able to grow up on Altea? (One of my personal favorite headcanons is that Honerva teaches her the ways of Alchemy!) Some writers might even bring in the original paladins, or an alien au with the second generation of paladins we know and love so dearly. As long as the Zonerva family stays the clear focus, we encourage straying and exploring the universe.
Are AUs permitted (eg. Human au, reversed fates, etc.)?
At the moment, it depends on the AU and answers to the interest check.
We want it to stay in the universe of canon divergent, but exploring other universes with these two would be interesting! Perhaps, if enough interest is generated, there could be a zine add-on of Zonerva AUs.
Are there any main themes/prompts to work with?
We want to give contributors enough wiggle room to do as they please, so the only main prompt is Zonerva in a canon divergent setting where they didn’t take over the galaxy.
Stories of them courting after they first met, their wedding, raising Lotor, all fall under this umbrella.
When would this zine be available?
We want to make it past the interest check before we solidify a schedule but at the moment the estimate in January or February of 2022. (Once mods have been accepted, a schedule will be announced.)
How much time to prepare (as writers/artists) do we have?
We’ll do a check-in every month. As a writer AND artist, I understand that writing and drawing can be time-consuming— and real-life events can be draining and demanding. The estimate for contributors to work is three to four months, with enough time for extensions if they’re needed.
The word count of written works will be determined by the mods based on the interest check. (Right now, I’m thinking somewhere around the 5k-10k range, but it all depends.)
What would your turnaround time look like from application to publication?
I’m going completely off my own experience writing and modding for zines when I answer, and this is definitely not set in stone. Most things will be up in the air until mods are selected.
Mod applications will open this weekend (May 30th), but those will still depend on whether we hit 30 responses to the interest check. Contributor applications will be opened in June, and the creation period will be from July to November. Previews (and if we do a physical zine, the pre-orders) will take up the next month or two, and then the zine will be released.
We are hoping that all contributors will get a physical copy of the zine, whether we keep it digital or not.
Do you need assistance with graphic design, marketing, and/or publishing/manufacturing?
Thanks for asking! Yes, I will. Right now there’s one person manning the zine. Mod applications will open this weekend for:
And, if we exceed our interest response goal:
