I also find it really sad that for all Ace looks up to Whitebeard as a father and respects him as a captain, he has a fundamental misunderstanding of what Whitebeard actually wants, especially since they went to sea looking for basically the same thing: A family.
Could be the dynamic Oda is going for. Ace sees Whitebeard as a father before a captain, so he acts as a disobedient son trying to please his father despite going against his word and forging a path for himself, instead of obeying his captain's commands.

Recently subbed to shonen jump, I've been making the most out of it and have picked up and read a few series.
Mission Yozakura family, I really like. Remains interesting and there is a slow development of plot emerging
Mashle muscles and magic, gag series, I like parts of it, still feels like it lacks a bit as a series but I want it to do well.
Mitama Security Spirit Buster, very good at catching you off guard with a joke and usually well delivered. Bits of character development, but not much of a serious story and no real plot.
Double Taisei, finished series, it's a good character dive, does nothing for shoji.
Undead unluck, an unclear (no pun intended) power system in a pretty entertaining action series. Plenty of groping, seriously.
Chainsaw Man, really good, bit more mature
Guardian of the witch, seems good but I expect things to get much better otherwise it's pretty standard
Zipman, a not very impressive series, good art, stuff happens but isn't very impressive in any other aspect.
