Sons of Comtec: It's a silly comic that will make you laugh. You can literally buy happiness! "What about lifelong contentment, though, Patrick?" Man I don't fucking know, time will tell I guess.
You've seen bits of this before, but here's the complete-ish version of the conversation me and Ben Hutchings had about SONS OF COMTEC in Tokyo last year. (If co-authors interview each other, is that called an 'intraview'?)
After you've watched that and given up trying to make sense of it, don't forget to order SONS OF COMTEC on Kickstarter! It will be available after the crowdfund, but not for a while, and never as cheaply and conveniently as right now. (Especially if you want multiple copies of the book, or to be in the book.)
(To be clear, everyone who backs the project gets their name in the book as a 'Valued Customer'; you don't have to upgrade to the levels of 'Sponsor' or 'Partner' ā although obviously if you do, you're a better person.)

Ooooooh I just bet you thought I was done with Tumblr. But actually... I'm done with everything! Everything except publishing a NEW GRAPHIC NOVEL and promoting it, that is.
Behold the 'pre-launch' page for SONS OF COMTEC, a comic by me and my friend Ben Hutchings. Hey, that's two of the three funniest cartoonists in the world! And what about the third one, Michael Kupperman, creator of Snake 'N' Bacon and Tales Designed to Thrizzle; what does he think about all this?
Sons of Comtec is a very silly comic about businessmen, because that's what the subject deserves. Me and Ben, SEPARATED BY EARTH'S MOST VAST OCEAN, made it together, somehow, over the course of more than a decade. Was that a deliberate "Up yours!" to the poisoned, capitalist notion of 'efficiency'? YES, if that will encourage you to order the book.
It's a series of overlapping vignettes about day-to-day corporate life, featuring a small cast of weird, serious idiots, most of whom are still alive at the end of it. There are two leprechauns in the book but they aren't important. Listen... I can't really describe this book, OK? Can any of my comics, that you love, be 'described', exactly? Come on now.
Oh, you know what else? If you click through to that pre-launch page and scroll down, you can watch a video with some voice-acted excerpts from the comic, and some character profiles, followed by me painting the whole cover illustration and discussing the process! Yes, I also have a YouTube channel. KEEP UP, will you.

Hello my loves. Iād like to start making and posting Hilarity Comics again, but it seems like tumblr is no longer a suitable repository for a work that freely veers from time to time into the grotesque and/or explicit. So Iām not sure where Iāll put them ā here and there I suppose. Keep an eye on my medium profile, my website, and my twitter, I reckon. And if youād like to write me a love note and wrap it in a few bucksā worth of encouragement, I have a ko-fi page as well.
Oh, and Iāve been putting some bits and pieces on instagram too, if thatās your scene. One way or another, youāll find this olā cowboy... on Internet!!! [pshoo]
So yeah tumblrās been pretty dead for a few years anyway ā my guess is a lot of artists have taken their followers to patreon where they get more for their effortĀ ā and now on top of that, my archive is doomed to be gradually swiss cheesed: here, some Japanese mascot characters makinā babies are unceremoniously disappeared; there, where once angry gamer blobs violently snapped each otherās dicks off, now stands an impertinent void, wall-like. It does not encourage participation.
I donāt expect to update the Hilarity Comics tumblr any further ā Iāll have to find a new home for them, or maybe Iāll just put them out into the world willy-nilly, as intimated above. But Iāll keep my main tumblr, here, active for the time being, as much as I can. But it wonāt be anything like a priority, Iām afraid, so keep across all me socials if you absolutely donāt want to miss anything.

Before releasing the voting comic redux, I had some close friends give it a once-over and it was felt that the painstakingly redrawnĀ āSLAPPO!ā panel might be a bit too much for some people, mostlyĀ ācause of Dennisās scary face. So after some initial reluctance I redrew his expression as manic instead of furious.
It works a lot better, I think. The panel retains its comic intensity, but feels more fun and silly. Plus the whole page flows better now; the rhythm isnāt broken.
As you know, normally Iām quite a selfish cartoonist and do my own thing and fuck you if you donāt understand it. But the whole point of the voting comic is to be seen, enjoyed, and understood by as many people as possible, so... I spent a lot of timeĀ finessing it. Show it to your friends and family and see if all of my effort was worth it!
Maybe Iāll put the angry-faced version of theĀ āSLAPPO!ā panel on a t-shirt or something.

Australiaās preferential voting system explained... IN FULL COLOUR
Australia is saturated in media from the USA and the UK. Through entertainment, current affairs, and social media, we hear things like:
āThereās no point voting for [Independent Candidate] because theyāll never get in ā itās a wasted vote!ā
āSure, [Good Minor Party] has good policies, but all they do is take votes away from [Bad Major Party]. We must vote for [Bad Major Party] to keep [Worse Major Party] out!ā
Many Australians absorb these messages and assume they apply to our elections too ā and our two major parties benefit from the misconception.
But whereas both the USA and the UK use āfirst-past-the-postā voting systems for their national elections, Australiaās system is more elegant than that. In elections for the House of Representatives, we use preferential voting ā also known as instant-runoff voting, ranked choice voting, or āthe alternative voteā in the UK.
So hereās Dennis the Election Koala to give Ken the Voting Dingo an important lesson in civics!
