“Starting new….” It was a very nice concept, but those things were always much harder in reality than one would imagine. Judging by Ringo’s sigh she was probably finding it difficult. But she seemed determined and Erika admired that. While herself she didn’t exactly enjoy the concept of leaving behind her gym and pokemon, there wasn’t much use getting upset because of things she had no control over.
“Oh! I’m sorry, I seem to have become lost in my own thoughts.” There would be time to think later. She could see dark clouds in the distance, and more importantly she was being rude to this nice girl. “He is a type of pokemon.” She remembered the confused look on Ringo’s face when she had seen the oddish and began again. “I don’t know if you have anything similar in your world but they are our companions. Some use them to battle and some to help them work, but they are always our friends.” She wondered if that was an adequate description, but was cut short when the girl spoke again.
Erika chuckled at her enthusiasm. This girl reminded her of the young trainers who wanted to become champion, so full of energy. She hadn’t seen such eagerness in a while. “Of course you may touch him. He’s much too lazy to be called a scout though.” She set the small pokemon on the ground where he took a few toddling steps toward Ringo before gazing up at her. “We have been saved? From what?” Her voice trailed off, her mind lost in thought. Tokyo certainly didn’t sound like anywhere she had heard of, although she should have expected this. Ringo hadn’t heard of her home either, and now they were both in a completely different place. And now there was some sort of goddess here. She wondered what could have possibly endangered both her and this girl’s home. It certainly did sound crazy. Erika had heard about the powers of legendary pokemon and experienced them to some extent, but never had she heard about a goddess…
Before she could think any further she remembered a piece of information she should have told the other girl before letting her pet the small pokemon. She hoped it wasn’t too late. “By the way, he has a tendency to drool…”
"I guess it's just easier to think of it that way." Ringo smiled slightly. Since she was so high-strung herself, it had never been easy for her to set others at ease. Though Erika appeared pretty serene, she figured that no one would be completely unshaken after having been torn from their home so suddenly. She tried thinking over the information she'd been able to gather about this place, which was... not much, other than what she'd already shared. She didn't feel like she understood that much more than she had when she'd been in Erika's position. It probably would have been better if someone who felt more at home here had found her, but she supposed that her own help was better than none at all.
She smiled at the little creature, who blinked up at her curiously. "A Pokemon? Kinda sounds like a video game. He's so cute!" She crouched in front of him, holding out a hand for him to examine. She poked a finger near his face, wondering if he could smell her. Did he have a nose? It was hard to tell. She gently pet his head near the leaves, giggling. "He's soft! You're a funny little guy, huh?" She picked him up, setting him on her lap. "I've never seen anything like him! He's like... a chia pet come to life." She scratched at his head, smiling. "We have cats and dogs and stuff. I think it's illegal to battle them, though. They usually just hang out, I guess!" She'd never had a pet, so she wasn't entirely sure what they did. Competitive cat fights sounded kind of exciting.
She looked back up at the other girl more seriously, Oddish still on her legs. "I'm not really sure what we've been saved from, honestly." She remembered that another girl she'd met had said something about "the destruction of your world," but she hadn't really clarified what that meant. When she'd gone to sleep the night she was transported here, nothing had seemed particularly strange or dangerous, and she had yet to meet anyone familiar to her. Did that mean only a few people had been saved from some terrible apocalypse? Or maybe it was a gradual process, since people had been showing up every day. She hoped so. Maybe she'd get to see her family again someday soon.
Right as Erika spoke, Ringo felt something wet on her leg. She looked back down at the Oddish in her lap. "So I see..." At least it was only drool, she reminded herself. It could have been much worse. "That's, um, that's okay. At least he's friendly!"
