this is, in my opinion, the best panel from absolute martian manhunter since issue #4. incredible work on so many levels. the novelty of being encouraged to draw in a comic book is heightened by the context of the situation. “hey there, reader! want to participate in american imperialism? it’s fun and interactive!” asks a faceless and identityless uncle sam, whose blank face shows how hollow america is and always has been. the country has given up even pretending to be just or kind or relatable, and is encouraging its citizens to aid them in capturing and subduing empathy. this issue could not have been timed more perfectly.
absolute martian manhunter my beloved
Ghostblade is THE character of all time. He has no hobbies. He spends his entire free time stalking his daughter. He had no tragic reason for becoming an assassin and his job doesn't bother him in the slightest, he just likes people shutting up because he's autistic. He fell in love at first sight. He manages to be a boyfailure despite being a middle aged man. His main method of contacting his boss is via phone call even though he is mute. He doesn't turn the lights on in his own home. He still thinks the name "ghostblade" is the coolest. He's a trained assassin but gets noticed repeatedly by his citizen daughter. He never once thought to send her a letter. His wife left him for reasons totally unrelated to his job as a killer. He's incredibly hot.
thank you for 5 seconds of screentime king

I've been reading a lot of qjj recently and AAAAAAA I'm loving it so much!! I never thought I'd be the type for plot heavy political dramas but here I am, struggling to figure everyone's relationship and remembering names (lol)
Cezhou is also so so sweet as a couple good GOD reading their interactions makes me wanna bash my head into the wall /pos /pos /pos Really good enemies to lovers content (even if the enemies part doesn't last very long) BUT YEAH YOU GUYS SHOULD READ QJJ

Since I've been drawing a lot of Primal Hunter characters, I decided to try my hand at Yip of Yore, but I couldn't really find a whole lot of physical description for him. So here's my attempt of figuring out how to draw him based solely on Vibes. I went with a jester look to fit his whole "putting on a performance" deal, and I used a colour pallete that I can reuse to draw El'hakan so that the narrative parallels between him and his Chosen can be echoed visually.
Still not sure about it, and I'll change the design if I run across more concrete descriptions, but this is what I have for now:)
Sunny
After the Nephis fan art, it's time for Sunny. I hope you all enjoy it.
sometimes there are lines in the dungeon crawler carl book series that hit me like, “how can we make it to heaven if god doesn’t recognize us?” from a person who’s been transformed both physically and mentally by the dungeon or “sometimes parents can cast a shadow so thick, you can drown in it,” from a character who recognizes he was a shitty father to his fucking kid who died and it lands like a sucker punch
and then you remember there’s also a talking cat eating cherries from dirty Shirleys while a guy has to run around in boxers bc the AI thinks it’s funny. whiplash, dude lol
It's just real life with the contrast settings maxed out.
dungeon crawler carl is fun because you go into it thinking it'll be an unserious, fun and gratuitously violent action book, and then you get to the very first boss, and then you think, now hold on. Hold on. And then all of a sudden you're seven books deep and insane and also holding on to the indomitable human spirit for dear life and also a crab has to jack off. like holy shit dude. i've got relentless hope and found family in one hand and the world's weirdest foot fetish in the other

stop. analyse that text through the lens of its author's intentions and original historical context. okay now take the author out back and kill them dead and analyse that text as though it were published by your mutual yesterday and is in direct conversation the contemporary discourse that's most relevant to your life. okay now pick your favorite angle of interpretation and come up with the strongest possible argument against it. now imagine that the text is your best friend and that it means you well and that you naturally give it every benefit of the doubt because you're on its side and you want the best for it. now imagine that the text wants you dead and it'll eat you if you don't eat it first. now pretend that you found this text locked away in a cave with no evidence of when or where it came from and you have to divine its meaning solely through its internal coherence and nothing else. okay now address the elephant in the room aspect of the text you've been ignoring because you find it boring or confusing or uncomfortable and become the number one expert on it. now spend forty minutes assigning all the characters dnd classes with at least three sentences of reasoning each. okay now do the cha cha slide.
Congrats I think you just got a language arts degree.
More Primal Hunter art! Trying to draw some of the gods now, so here's the Holy Mother.
