I know I’ve been complaining a lot about this recently but I’ve been really disappointed in how the milgram fandom treats its female characters. In that one popularity poll the top 4 most popular characters were all male, and by a long shot. And I haven’t seen as much theories on stuff on the female characters despite how they’re just as, if not better well written than the guys. The milgram girls also get heavily mischaracterised by the fandom with the fandom reducing them more to blank versions of themselves and more prone to villanise them compared to the male characters. I feel like I’m just ranting here but I really want to talk about the misogyny in this fandom
I really see this in relation to Kotoko (and also Muu but I’ll detail my frustrations later). I find it really surprising that people can vote Fuuta innocent and Kotoko guilty, though I think people tend to vote based on what is happening in the prison, and in that case Kotoko is fighting a losing battle. Fuuta says it himself that their crimes are VERY similar; both killed their victims because of “justice” or whateva. However IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, I think Kotoko’s crime is pretty justified. She literally killed predators. But when you look at Fuuta’s case, he literally doxxed a middle schooler (In his t2 MV you can literally see the victim in her school uniform, and it’s clearly a middle school uniform). Now I might need the Fuuta stans to fill in the gaps in my knowledge, but I don’t know what could’ve prompted it but even then… WHEN IS IT JUSTIFIABLE TO DOX A MIDDLE SCHOOLER, or really anyone for that matter??? I also tend to notice people really baby Fuuta, but both Kotoko and him are the same age, so why does Kotoko get the vitriol.
If people vote based on if they themselves feel guilty for what they did, then it’s understandable that people voted Fuuta innocent, because I’m people, hi. But even then, I have a sneaky suspicion that if Fuuta was voted innocent in t1, he’d be as righteous and batshit as Kotoko is rn (honestly they’d probably tag team) but we’ll never know. POINT BEING: why does Fuuta get “oh no bbg” treatment and Kotoko gets “SHE’S PURE EVIL”. I’m not crying misogyny…. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was misogyny.
Then Muu… oh my daughter Muu. Maybe I’m biased because I am in love with my daughter Muu, but very important to note that I’m unhinged about Haruka too. I find it funny how some Haruka stans (especially proshippers) infantilise and can pair him with equally as toxic ships, but draw THE LINE at a teenage girl. It frustrates me beyond believe how Muu is mischaracterised and boiled down to manipulative spoiled mean girl. I can go on and on about how interesting and well-written Muu is and her relationship with Haruka, but to cut a long story short, she is as dependent and clueless as Haruka but she is often labeled “the villain”, when me personally I don’t think that is the fairest assessment. They’re all fucked up, I assure any ship you pair has a 90% probability of being as or more toxic than HaruMuu. But that could just be me (live love Muu <3)
