“just chill for a second, i’ll ring you up,” he flashes a smile before getting up to punch the total into the register — not pricey, but still a dent in your bank account. you’re slow to get up, almost wishing you’d chosen a more time-consuming tattoo to spend more time with mingi; although, if you were to sit in that chair for any longer, you probably would’ve passed out.
you silently flinch at the sound of money being transferred, almost in disbelief, you spent more just to see a man for fifteen minutes.
“take care, y/n! i’ll see you around!” mingi waved with a smile, and you can’t do anything else but wave back. little does he know.

“do i need to get you into rehab or something?” mingi crosses his arms and taps his foot the moment he spots you strolling into his studio for the third week in a row. you smile sheepishly, staring at him from the door.
“what no… i just keep getting new ideas…” you sway, and he playfully rolls his eyes.
“maybe you should collect your new ideas for a month or two instead of coming in every single week,” he reasons, and a part of you is offended — shit, maybe this is really weird, and you need to just work up the courage to just ask him out already. that’s the most reasonable thing to do, right?
“wow, so you don’t want my business? fine then, mingi, i’ll just go somewhere else!” you playfully huff, turning on your heels as mingi calls your name.
“what- NOO! y/n, no come back! i’m sorry! i swear!” he calls, and your heart skips a beat, maybe six or seven times. you curse at yourself for blushing, turning around to see him pouting at you, waving to come sit down in his chair. you cross your arms and pretend to think, but everybody knows by now — you can’t resist even if you wanted to. your legs have a gravitational pull towards him, and you’re relaxed on the leather before you even know it.
“so… what are we doing today? another flower, something new… something bold…” he asks, already preparing the pen and ink.
“can you add some like… ambience… around the flowers?” you ask, and he just stares at you, almost dumbfounded. he cocks his head and then raises an eyebrow.
“ambience..?”
“yeah, you know, like leaves and vines… scenery…” you shrug, like it’s obvious.
“scenery… that’s the right word,” he mumbles, yet you notice the corner of his mouth turn up. you nod, sitting back as the familiar scent of alcohol wipes and the buzz of the tattoo needle fills the studio.
mingi is a tattoo artist. and you know that he’s a tattoo artist. but damn, does he put the ‘artist’ in tattoo artist. he free-handed the stencil before showing it to you for approval, and since then, he’s been going at it for the past forty-five minutes. the pain is minimal, and he’s consistently asked if you wanted any breaks or not. you’ve had to fight your inner demons on whether or not you’d say yes — breaks mean more time with him and potentially the opportunity to actually speak with him; no breaks means you’re out of there quicker, and you’re not using your spent money to its full potential.
so obviously, you chose the second one. he occasionally asks a question, and you’ll be awkward when answering it. even something as simple as “what’s your favorite color?” has you overthinking and rambling on about shades and circumstances. he doesn’t interrupt when you ramble, just smiles with some type of endearment that makes your heart do backflips. a part of you is optimistic and thinks he might return your feelings, but the other part of you is realistic — you’re a regular client paying him money for his service; of course he’s going to be as kind and friendly as possible… right?
it’s almost another half-hour before he’s finally finished, final touch-ups and shadings being driven into your skin before he pulls back to admire his work.
“wow… it’s beautiful. do you mind if i take a picture to post on social media?” he asks, hand reaching for his phone. you gulp, pausing at his words. he wants to take a picture of you for his socials? are you dreaming?
“y/n? it’s okay if you say no, you don’t have to-“
“no! no i don’t mean like no, i mean i don’t mind, like at all!” you assure, a panicked smile growing on your face while he reads deeply into your expression.
“okay… i’m going to trust you. but if you don’t like it then tell me, and i will take it down!” he says, pulling out his phone and positioning your arm to his liking. you hope his 4k camera doesn’t capture the goosebumps his touch left on your skin, looking away as the phone camera clicked.
“that’s perfect! i’ll go ring you up, but take your time,” he cheers, getting up to punch numbers into the register. you exhale the breath you didn’t even realize you were holding, fingers lightly brushing the skin wrap he applied to your arm. you stand up, shakily, hoping that he didn’t notice how in your own head you were, making your way over to him.
his brows furrowed immediately, “is everything okay? you don’t seem so well.”
“oh, what- everything is fine! don’t even worry,” you chuckle, fishing for your card, but not even you are convinced. he looks at you for a few seconds before exhaling deeply.
“okay, i trust you. be safe, y/n,” he warns, arms crossing as the payment goes through. you notice that he applied a discount for you, but you’re too lost in your own head to point it out.
“thanks, mingi!” you smile hard, not wanting to go out with the critical thinking process scribbled all over your face.
“no problem, y/n. i’ll see you around!” he waves, and suddenly you wish you were still in his chair, talking to him about the little things in your lives.

you physically cringe as you pull into the parking lot for the fourth week in a row, and at this point, mingi recognizes your car. once again, he’s not busy, and walks to meet you in the doorway.
“please tell me you’re not here for another tattoo,” he calls, half jokingly, once you get out of your car. you’re not. hopefully.
“don’t worry, my bank account can’t take another hit,” you joke, and he barely cracks a smile.
“i’m more worried about your tattoo site getting irritated or infected. how’s it healing up?” he asks, reaching out to look once you’re in a reasonable distance. you let him, tugging up the short sleeve of your shirt so he can see.
“hm, looks all good. what are you here for?” he asks, and your heart drops to your stomach, and then pounds as hard and loud as possible.
“um…” you don’t remember him being this intimidating when he was driving a literal needle into your skin. his head tilts forward a little bit as he raises a brow, crossing his arms. his biceps flex under the plain white tee he’s wearing, arms decorated with black and colored ink.
“okay, well, to be honest… this is like, really embarrassing so you have to promise not to throw me off a bridge, okay?” you stumble out, embarrassed already. yet, he chuckles.
“okay… i don’t think i’d ever throw you off a bridge, but go for it,” he leans against the doorframe, and the drool almost escapes your mouth.
“okay, well, i kind of sort of have just a little teensy itty bitty crush on you… and was wondering if you like… wanted to maybe go out sometime… like, when you’re not tattooing me…” your cheeks turn pink as your body sways back and forth a little bit, completely avoiding eye contact with him. you’re just staring down at his shoes as you’re met with a brick wall of silence. you want to look up, and you also want to run away even more, so your feet unconsciously begin to carry you back to your car door.
“wait,” he calls, grabbing your wrist to stop you from running away. you finally look up at him, and he’s grinning widely, a soft blush spread across his cheeks.
“i think that’s adorable, to be honest. can i give you my number so we can work something out?” he asks, and you don’t believe it at first. you came into this situation almost completely sure that you were going to get rejected, yet here you are, about to obtain this man’s number.
“you- want, wait, what?” you stutter, and he chuckles again, pulling out his phone.
“okay, change of plans. you give me your number, and i’ll text you so we can set up a date. how does that sound?” he asks again, holding the device your way. you look back and forth between him and his phone before shyly taking it, clicking the numbers into place.
“wow… that is not how i expected this to go,” you admit sheepishly, and he takes one of your hands in both of his, patting it comfortingly.
“if it makes you feel any better, every time you left, i was scared that i’d never see you again,” he admits, and he’s right — it does make you feel better.
“so i wasn’t the only one over here with a crush?” you ask, and he just nods. as he’s about to speak, another car pulls up, and you know that’s probably one of his appointments.
“looks like i’ve got to go. but i’ll text you tonight, y/n. promise. go home and get some rest,” he releases your hand, disappearing inside to quickly prep for his next client. you’re left outside, still in disbelief of what just happened, yet ecstatic at the thought of going on a date with your insanely attractive tattoo artist.
YEOSANG has always been kind to you. he listens when you talk, remembers small details you mention in passing, and always smiles at you. but being nice and sweet is apparently the problem. you like him, have been crushing on him for a couple of months, and everyone, but him knows.
“you look really good today,” you tell him one afternoon, trying to sound casual as he walks into the room. the man pauses, surprised, before his lips curl into that soft smile you’ve memorized.
“thank you,” he says sincerely, then, without hesitation, “you too.”
you stare at him, as wooyoung snorts loudly from across the room. it’s enough to make you want to slam your head into a wall. yeosang doesn't try to get the meaning behind your words or your behaviour at all.
at first, you thought maybe he was just shy, or that he needed time. so you stayed near him, laughed at his jokes first, saved him a seat next to you, let your hand or knee brush accidentally against his. he never pulled away, but he never leaned in either.
and eventually, it becomes exhausting, so you stop hoping he’ll suddenly wake up and see you the way you see him. because confessing feels pointless when the other person doesn’t even realize what's going on. you don’t avoid him, but you don’t try anymore. he notices how you are one idea more distant, as he doesn’t fully understand why.
you laugh less around him, leave rooms earlier, or talk with someone else instead. you don’t look at him like you used to, and he doesn’t know why, but something about it leaves a strange feeling in his chest. wooyoung notices too, and he, unlike yeosang, is not dense. so later, when they’re alone, he just says it.
“you know she likes you, right?”
“what?” yeosang blinks at him, once, twice, not processing what was just said.
unimpressed, the cherry haired man stares at him. “(name) likes you.”
“i like her too,” he says, “she’s a very good friend.”
wooyoung exhales in disappointment, rubbing his temple. “yeosang, not like that.” the blonde just looks at him, face slightly frowning in confusion, “she likes you romantically, silly.”
“oh.”
“oh?” wooyoung watches the realization hit him, as he raises an eyebrow.
“oh…” yeosang says again, quieter this time. because suddenly, memories replay differently in his mind: the compliments, the way you looked at him, how you laughed at everything he said. the way you always stayed close, and where there for him.
wooyoung smirks slowly, actually proud for helping his best friend come to his senses. it's been so long, and everyone should be glad it's going to be over soon, with a happy ending, of course.
so the next time yeosang sees you, his heart is beating faster than usual. his palms feel warm, a little sweaty, showing how nervous he is. you smile politely when you see him. he swallows, fights the instinct to retreat into his comfort zone, but he steps forward instead.
“are you free this weekend?” he asks, and you tilt your head, “i am, why?”
“would you like to go on a date with me?”
and for the first time since he’s known you, yeosang realizes he doesn’t want to be just nice. he wants to be yours, and by how fast the spark returned to your eyes, he for sure will be, just as you will be his.
